Republican legislators are more interested in protecting potato growers and McDonalds than protecting the public from a being inundated with public health issues that they will confront in the future due to unhealthy diets. Their reasoning for turning back the clock his hard to fathom unless one considers all those fat campaign contributions from food industry lobbyists to whom legislators have sold their souls. Leave it to he Rebumblingcans during election campaigns to declare the earth is flat and if we go to far we will fall over the edge, and that they are the center of the universe.
So the alternative is to allow the government to regulate everything we eat? Since when do you or I or anyone else need someone to regulate everything we do.
No one forces you to stop at McDonalds or any other fast food restaurant. As for childrens meals as school there is a thing called a paper bag or lunch box but I guess most of you complainers are too lazy to see that your kids get the right foods to eat.
Last time I checked the school was there to teach the children and not to take the place of the parent. Also if you think about it most of the kids getting the subsidized lunches are in families that are also receiving food stamps. Their parents have no excuse for not giving their kids a healthy lunch to take with them.
As for posting calories at a restaurant or grocery store etc. What a ridiculous requirement! If a person is so worried about how many calories in a whopper then they probably shouldn't be eating it in the first place.
I am all for making sure that food is ediblehe and disease free when it gets to the stores but the bottom line is the more regulation we put on foods the more they cost. So the consumer gets screwed twice. Once to pay for the stupid government entity that creates the new regulations and again at the cash register because all increases in costs will ultimately be passed on from the businesses to the consumer.
God forbid we are told what to eat or how much salt to use by the govt. Your right in "encourage healthy behavior" . but thats it, instruct, educate, dont legislate. This over regulation by the govt has to stop. What business is it of the govt how much salt i use on my potatoe?
Don't bring out the health care crap, dems are the ones who want to take away the medicare, read the health care bill to see that the dems cut $250 billion in 2014 and pass the cost on to seniors.
The GOP knows that it is the duty if not the privilege of Americans to pay the excess health costs for their obese and overweight constituents. It's better for us all to give up medicare than to have Bubba Jr. give up some calories to control costs.
Again republicans reaffirm the fact that they're idiots. Why waste time on job creation when you can waste time on fighting with the administration over healthy food for school lunches.
If you want a healthier school lunch for your child, spend 10 minutes to pack it yourself. If you don't want the criminals in DC to waste time on it, demand that your tax dollars stop subsidizing lunch.

Of course they do.
It's the parents job to encourage healthy eating & the kids will find what ever they want else where.
GET REAL!!
