There is probably no doubt that fruits and vegetables make you live longer, but who can afford them. I believe a balance meal is more important especially if you workout daily. I would love to eat fruits and vegetables but they are expensive today. I don't have a farmers market available, but you can get fruits and vegetables a lot cheaper there. The real key to a long life is, eat right and EXERCISE. Exercise is what builds strong bones, improves heart, kidney, lung functions and just gives you a better overall health.
I've been vegetarian for almost 40 years. Now, on the WholeFoods Plant-Based way of eating, my health has skyrocketed! I can hardly believe the difference. We eat huge salads filled with mustard leaves, kale, cavelo nero, chickweed, and all sorts of greens that we easily grow in a small garden. Plus tons of fruit & veges in general - fresh produce is the cheapest food here in New Zealand. Where do you live Popo, that they are too expensive? People who eat fruit & veges as an extra usually find them expensive - if they are your basic food, (together with beans, whole grains & legumes), and you prepare your own meals, it's way cheaper than processed food! Look out for the film "Forks Over Knives" - not sure when it will be released but people are already talking about it. It's on this topic, and looks to be great, scientifically sound, controversial, and featuring well known authorities. Pres Clinton is even on the regime!
