It's not unreasonable to assume that this research might also be of use or aid to those whose pancreas has been damaged or is otherwise in dysfunction. One such condition is those who have suffered acute pancreatitis, which counts alcohol abuse as one of its primary causes.
What a dolt you are! I've not drunk a drop in my life, but I have diabetes. I may need that pancreas, as do youngsters born with diabetes, pancreatitus and cancer of the pancreas.
Ok ok. Relax everyone. As someone else pointed out, this will be very useful for people who abuse alcohol as one of the major repercussions is pancreas failure.
In NO WAY am I judging people who suffer from alcoholism or diabetes.
I read about an interesting study yesterday. It was rather small, only 11 subjects who had been diagnosed with type II in the last 4 years. They put them on a rather extreme diet, 600 calories per day for 2 months. They lost an average of 33 lbs and after the two months 7 of them were no longer diabetic.
What about the other secretory products produced by the pancreas, like bicarbonate and the enzymes trypsin, chymotrypsin, lipase, amylase, ribonuclease, deoxyribonuclease, gelatinase and elastase?
Can it be called a true artificial pancreas if it produces only insulin and not all these other pancreatic products?
FDA, whatever you do don’t let J & J Animas develop the pump. My girlfriend ended up in the hospital three times because of their crappy Animas pumps. They will not do anything about it unless you go through a complex way to return them, and I bet they don’t even report the defect. With the number of recalls that they have had lately that show they have been extremely slow to respond they cannot and should not be trusted with something this important.
We need a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, not a multimillion dollar form of life support. Why is there no national registry for medical data at the time of new diagnosis for every Type 1 Diabetic? Find the cause and cure for this disease that is at epidemic numbers, especially increasing in the very young child.
Just so everybody's aware of the fact that a fasting glucose "in the high 140's" is enough above NORMAL that a non-diabetic would freak out if they had it......
Who cares! Type I or Type II or Juvenile diabetes still is an illness and has a need for help. And by the way, not all people with Type II diabetes are heavy.
Alcoholics rejoice!!
Uh right. Because *alcohol* is the cause of JUVENILE (i.e. Type 1) diabetes, which is what they are talking about in this article.
Engage brain. Then type.

They are probably going to have to stop referring to it as a pancreas. It only addresses typeI issues.

It's a great thing for everyone.
What about the diabetics who are insulin-resistant? Have they figured out how to zero out the insulin resistance yet?

Hopefully they wait till after Chavez dies. It might be related to the prostate in some way.
Aunt Jamama makes really good pancreas'...with maple syrup. MMMMM good.

They are type II diabetics. This is therapy for type I diabetics.

Mickey, good question. And I want to know about insulin resistance also.
Mickey, that's a good question. And I'd also like to hear about the insulin resistance. A lot of people with Hepatitis C have developed Type 2.
