Here is an idea, how about some self responsibility? How about if you look in the mirror and see if you are overweight then just stop eating? I was at the San Diego County Fair for the July 4 fireworks and I have never seen so many overweight people with either a turkey leg in their hands or plate full of french fries, or anything else that was fried. I also use to be overweight when I was very young and I do know how all those fried food taste but at some point you must have "some" self respect and realize that what you are doing is WRONG and NOT touch that stuff.
Oops... Now the DEA's gotta get involved to save you from those dastardly cannabinoids. MAN AND BAG OF CHIPS WRESTED TO THE GROUND...Film at eleven!!! Alcohol and tobacco kill more people every year than cannabis. Why not outlaw them!
We crave fat because that's how we're programmed to survive. Duh. Same with sugars and salt. They're things we need, but in a world where we can have whatever we want instantly at our fingertips, it's easy to overindulge. When your survival counts on your next kill, yeah, you're going to go for the energy rich fat. It tastes good to us for a reason.
A better solution is to find healthier sources of fat. Saturated fats and the like, stay away from those veggie oils, they aren't as good as you're told. The less processed the better. Also, staying away from things that make us hungry all of the time like too many carbs and constant snacking. We need a better system to teach people the right way to eat.
Also High Fructose Corn Syrup, despite the commercials challenging the common american lack of a science education on the matter (oh yes, you are right, random people on the street don't know organic chemistry, it must be ok for you) the conversion from glucose to fructose makes it much more difficult for the body to break down and instead the body stores it in fat. We need to substantially cut this sweetner and also ban those dumb commercials.
HFCS, table sugar, honey, it's the same thing as far as the body is concerned. People need to cut sugar intake regardless of the source. Don't perpetuate the myth that it's just HFCS. It's all sugar.
Try fresh fruit for a change. It already has the fructose. No can, no corn syrup, no fat, no weight gain. Eat as much as you want, but do try to have a variety.
Yes, fruit has sugar too, but also provides some fiber and vitamins and is naturally occuring. Berries are especially good as they are the lowest in sugar for the nutrition. I eat fruit sparingly, but when I do, I reach for any kind of berry.
Other kinds are good too if they fit within a reasonable amount of carbs for the day.
Most Americans will not be "loving fat" for long. The White House, The Chubby Czar has proposed what she is calling a "Fat Tax." For every pound a citizen is over weight they will have to pay X number of dollars. If they fail to pay the Fat Tax they will face a long prison term. This will be on top of all the other taxes including the VAT tax.
People don't get fat simply because they crave and eat too much fat. If this were true, people would be just as guilty of overeating healthy sources of fats like nuts, olive oil, avocados, etc. Instead, they get fat eating chips, french fries, cookies, etc. It's not just the fat, it's a combination of fat and salty carbohydrates or fat and sugary carbohydrates.
Cutting out fat isn't the solution, cutting out too many carbohydrates combined with processed fats is.
I agree. Too many carbs seems to be the problem, and not too much fat. I can't imagine people overeating lard for the sheer joy of it. I am not a health expert, but I think Gary Taubes's book, "Why We Get Fat and What to do about it" discusses the carbs vs. fat argument in a well-reasoned manner.
People like eating what tastes good and they enjoy. If you read everything about the fat, calories, etc you will not eat anything besides veggies and fruit. I enjoy eating what I like and it is no ones business what I eat. I work out and lose the fat associated with the above food.
Soon the government will not allow you to eat ribs, meat, pasta etc. There is nothing better than a good chili burger, fries, and a regular coke. People that drink diet coke are sissy's.

Doubt it, considering that government agencies such as the FDA are basically run by corporate food interests. More like they'll be shoveling the crap into your kids' mouths and making it all the more accessible to the dying population we're surrounded by.
It's not about enjoyment of food, or freedom to kill ourselves via overindulgence, or the free market. It's about accumulation of money by way of manipulation. It's all about the cheddar, and I'm not talking about cheese. ($).
Obese people should be harvested. It's obvious they are not going to use all that stored energy, might as well put it to good use. Sorry fatties, it is doubtful there will be a famine anytime soon -- let alone a famine that would require you to store 100+ lbs of extra fat.
And here I thought it was the salt. I love salt but it does not love me.
I wonder what would happen if the vagus nerve was cut?

tontosh -- spot on. A little self-control, instead of self-indulgence, might go a LONG, LONG way toward solving the problem.
Not to speak of setting a good, healthy example for children.
Death
JC: more like "Man and chip bag shot to death in lovers dieing embrace"
Marijuana and french fries...I KNEW they were connected!!!!
Lol. Me too. I just never could remember that unless I was..... nevermind.

Glenn Beck is that you?
Awesome.
Eat lean and smoke pot...and live happily ever after.

Or it could just be because they taste good...just saying

Soon the government.... (insert random idiocy)

Go vegan, smoke bud. Eating fatty foods not only kills ourselves but also the animals that are tortured and bred like something from the Matrix.
Respect for ourselves, the planet, and all its inhabitants is a worthy cause, I'd say.
It's really not that hard, and believe it or not can actually be enjoyable.
I prefer to eat my meat naturally; I pounce on a deer, rip it's throat out with my teeth, play with it for a while, then, BAM, venison heaven, baby!!
