Wow. This is something that Germany had better get a handle on. That particular strain is extremely unstoppable.
Naturally, the Republicans announced his week that they are going to push to defund FDA food inspections for most strands of E. Coli... With multiple deaths throughout the world caused by this, what could POSSIBLY go wrong?
And the budget/debt ceiling "deal" would cut funding for the federal agency with seeks to prevent this type of thing happening. So go ahead and hate government.
You don't need a federal agency to tell us to only eat well-done meat, to only each well washed produce and to wash our hands whenever touching possibly contaminated food and objects (bathroom, kitchen sink, chopping board, outside, etc.).
May I add that if anything we need to get the message out that personal choices can kill us. Washing your hands after defecating can stop many infections.
The republicans do not know how to govern for or protect the common good. They are corporobots who respond to their control masters on WALL STREET and around the world. The dems just go far too complacent in their beliefs that the US has evolved as a great civilization and that it would continue to grow and prosper without a fight. Unfortunately, the war against evil in the forms of greed, arrogance and power lust never ends. the dems have not done their due diligence in years. And unfortunately, Reagan and his failed economic policies along with the parallel growth of the MURDOG media empire have put our democracy at risk. The CDC was created because private industry abused the environment and safety of its workers in order to manufacture and disburse bad food and other consumer prods. Where the repugs consider regulation a bad word and obstruction to doing business, the dems consider regulation a necessity in any society where rules of conduct are necessary or there is chaos.
This strain of e-coli is from Egyptian seeds for growing ferngook (sprouts) that were imported to Germany for distribution in 2009 and 2010- the ehec cases,some with hus (haemolytic-uremic syndrome) are all stemming from these seeds. The only way to stop people from US from eating sprouts is to inform them with a leaflet at the disembarkation point,since this has been discussed in the news and apparently people just ignore the warnings- there are also 'regular' e-coli outbreaks in US from salads,hamburger meats-undercooked. etc. Remember that cleanliness is haf the food and prepare your food accordingly.
The Germans decide that sprouted seeds were the cause of the E. coli outbreak without identifying a single definitive case of infected sprouts.
P.S. CDC is the best in the world and edverybody asks them for help. US ultra-party members want to slash all the funds for food and water safety in an unbelievable mentality belonging to the Dark Ages. Do they want the horrible epidemics of 1890's when cholera was killing innocents and all they came up was 'miasma' instead of collecting garbage,cleaning streets,isolating and caring for the stricken- that is how Public Health Laws came about and under President McKinley the Federal Public Health Laws.
