No. Men just don't go to the doctor until they are dying. With women, it's a little more mandatory.
Die of cancer or go to the doctor? Boys are forced to go to doctors by mommys so if a boy has cancer it's detected. Men go to doctors depending on maturity level. Single men being the least likely and married men the most likely to see a doctor. Guys don't call each other on the weekends checking in with each other and making sure that they check for lumps on their testis. Mom's could take it into their own hands and call their adult sons to make sure they are checking for lumps on a monthly basis.
Ah, I think my son would stop talking to me if I called him on a monthly basis to remind him to check his testes for lumps.

My husband hardly ever goes to the doctor, and when he does he won't get blood work, x-rays, or take the medications prescribed. He is 50 and refuses a colonoscopy. He thinks I can heal everything so he comes running to me to take care of him> I told him I can nurse his illnesses but I can't cure them. He will be one of the ones to get cancer, it will be diagnosed after it kills him.

I'm sorry Deborah...but the reason your husband isn't taking care of himself is because he isn't convinced of your love and need of him. Men are simple creatures when it comes to a relationship. They want to think they are their wife's knight in shining armor that protects and provides for you and the family. They have to be reminded of that from time to time and if you do, they will take not only take good care of themselves, but of you as well, ten-fold.
Furthermore, Deborah, you need to watch the words that come out of your mouth, and out of your keyboard.
There is no reason for your husband to catch cancer or die prematurely.

Stack Dat, whether or not a man goes to a doctor has nothing to do with how his wife treats him. Usually it's fear of needles or something stupid like that. Men are very fearful creatures who hate being vulnerable or not being in control. Coincidentally, that is why men can be terrible doctors.
I feel sorry for any woman who shares her life with you. She would have to be desperate and have very low self esteem.

If you believe what people tell you, you give up your rights to health. These articles do nothing to support health or the healing process. Fear factors about health doesn't work any more for people. Your belief system will drive you to the graveyard or escort you to old age with a quality life. You DO have to take care of yourself. Get your health checked, eat right, drink plenty of pure water, get plenty of rest, and laugh at everything people tell you. Most of all believe none of it! If you think your going to get it - you'll probably get your wish.
You can't take time off work for fear of loosing your job.

Life is generally more fatal to men than women.
Some of that is due to men having more dangerous work than women do but some of it can be attributed to the fact that men engage in more risky activities than women do (sports, etc).
Why do Jewish men die young?

LOUSY ARTICLE! The statistics here make no sense at all. First, it is claimed that men who are diagnosed with cancer are more likely to die of it, - then the article says that a major part of the reason is that men were more likely to get cancer in the first place. That makes no sense.
Sure, - if more men get cancer then it stands to reason that more would probably die of it but that is independent of the percentage of those who get it that could be expected to die.
Other factors such as not seeing doctors as often or simple biological differences - those explain a different percentage of diagnosed men succumbing to the disease.
I talked about this very issue today with another guy. Not only do women have it more together about their health issue, their support groups are more help. I have/had prostate cancer and find very few men at the meetings and do not want to talk about the intimacy issues connection with prostate cancer.
As far as the job issues and not taking off work is BS, the issue is ego and in their heads. Men would weath quit, it is easier. If that was the case, hunting, fishing, golf and a host of other things, drinking beer would go out of business.
That is the reason wars are fought with men, you would get that number of females to take that hill, that beach and loss the numbers. The women would tell you where to put it, that is the reason they live longer.
Maybe it's because there are women's health clinics in all 50 states, but barely one for men's health. Maybe it's because we channel thousands of dollars into breast awareness campaigns, and other causes that ONLY benefit women, while doing nothing for men. How is this sexism tolerated?
That sexism is tolerated because for years and years there was no research at all about breast cancer because there were few female doctors and only a handful of male doctors were concerned about their wives or mothers who got breast cancer. As time went on, more female doctors came in and focused on breast cancer and the patients and their friends began getting organized. It took years and years and tons of organization for it to get rolling. And not only women benefit from all that has been funded by it, but....
I agree that it's far more organized than any other cancer awareness program, but it was almost all done by volunteers and it was earned.
I get asked for prostate cancer money every time I go to the grocery store.

I am a 43 year old male and have been diagnosed and recieved treatment for lung cancer for the second time. I was only diagnosed the first time because i was hospitalized with pneumonia, men dont go to see their doctor as often as they should,women go to doctors more often than men and find problems earlier and therefore have a greater chance of being cured
As a cancer survivor diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma about 19 months ago let me tell you this: Your survival depends as much on your faith and your outlook as it does on your medicine. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. Some cancers are harder to treat than others, but YOU decide how much fight YOU will put into the mix. May God bless you all.
True, men don't go to their doctors enough. But before laying the entire blame at their feet, perhaps we should look at the medical industry and our society as a whole. How many of your local hospitals have "Women's Health Centers" yet nothing for men? Did you know the Department of Health and Human Services has an Office of Women's Health? Office of Men's Health? Doesn't exist. The American Cancer Society devotes almost twice as much funding to women's cancers as men's. I could go on.
Despite the many advances our society has experienced in the past 50 years, men are still primarily thought of as protectors and providers. It's usually only when those two roles are threatened do we get worried. Maybe if we as a nation took men's overall health as seriously as that of women, men might follow suit.

Besides all that, the entire health care system is a mens clinic. If they opened up a Men's Healthcare Clinic on every street corner - the patient mass would remain relatively stable.
For the most part I think men are exposed to more things that may cause cancer. More men in military , trades , etc.
Or a double whammy, while in the military being exposed to Dioxin in Agent Orange in Vietnam for 33 months and then while Wintering Over at McMurdo Station Antarctica being exposed to radiation from a leaking Nuclear Power Plant for 13 months. Have had Stage III Cancer, once in '91, again in '05 and Parkinson's since '06. Hanging in there though, I'm STILL here.

Because men come into contact with things that cause cancer. Men are in those kind of environments ie: the military, construction trades, etc.
Men have more risk - must because a woman's immune system is tougher just like the rest of her.
Actually, both men and women are as likely to die--unless cancer make women immortal.
Men dont visit the Dr. as regularly as women because Drs. are less likely to help men . I can hobble into the Dr. with a bone sticking out of my chest and feel like ive totally wasted my and the Drs. time when he tells me Im fine , just take a couple tylenol and get a good nights sleep .
On the other hand my wife can go in , tell the Dr. Shes got 5 teenagers living at home . They canceled NCIS , and she has to go grocery shopping . And shes going to need a damn shopping cart for all the mind , mood and body relaxing " samples " hes goingt to give her .
It makes no sense that everyone always mentions tobacco smoke before anything else men have been historically over exposed to many different chemicals but not a single researcher or doctor has the balls to blame anything else besides tobacco.
Men without cancer are more likely to die (sooner) than women, so what else is new?
I always knew women were better than men.
