For the sake of Chinese babies the United States needs to bring manufacturing back to our own factories. Our coal plants are cleaner burning than the ones in China. We regulate pesticides more than China does. Then toss in the added advantage of cutting out all the pollution from the cargo ships and we could really help things.
Sure products would cost more but that is an added plus. Maybe we would stop buying cheap junk and product quality would increase. Things would last longer. Less pollution making throw away products. Less trash throwing out junk that doesn't last.
Why could the things my Mom bought in the 1950's last 30 years but now they don't last 5 years?
It makes good economic sense for the U.S. to produce many of our own products too. I don't care how many experts the national news drags out - we can't grow as a society when it is based solely on consumerism.
Back to the main point of the story---just so sad for all the babies. Here in the US we still use pesticides on much of our produce. The flowers you buy at the local store were produced with so much pesticide and fertilizer it is killing the people who grow them. I try to buy organic when I can but it is so expensive!
China in 10 years is going to have so many problems with inflation it's going to bring the world to it's knees. That's what you would expect from a communist nation. It's inevitable as it's eventual collapse like the USSR.
This is very sad. Even if you think there is no global "weirding", and the weather is not effected by our pollution, this is proof positive that we need to clean up our environment for our children's health.
China's tying of birth defects to air pollution is PROOF POSITIVE why the GOP plan to gut the Clean Air Act should be supported by all Americans! Deregulate now.
