I pride myself on being Democrat, but this is just stupid. Why would any Dr. lend their comments to this ridiculous issue. She is fine, if we are just talking about migraines. That is not the issue we should be focusing on. So, drop the fluff news and stick to her politics.
I wouldn't mind having a president who gets a pain in the head; I mean, it would be better than the current situation where the president IS a pain in the ass
Migraines may be caused by a big build-up of hot air in the head....the side effects of this malady are the propensity to shoot one's mouth off uncontrollably, and may accentuated by a constant dribble of half-lies. Ultimately this leads to political death from carpal tunnel syndrome & possibly arthritis, due to over-reaching while tea-bagging with constituents at fund raisers and other ho' downs....but prior to this the afflicted becomes a big pain in the butt to everyone within earshot.
Jahmekan -- Obviously, you are not familiar with migraines. They can be extremely debilitating, and the much better meds currently available still do not help everyone. As far as Bachmann is concerned, the woman is totally without a conscience. Her migraines are probably caused by a twisted brain. Heaven help us if she or anyone like her ever gets in the White House, migraines or not.
She is infinitely more qualified that Mr Obama was. Doctorate degrees, business experience, tax attorney, multiple-term congresswoman, former state legislator. You may not agree with her politics, but to say she lacks qualifications shows either a lack of knowledge of her background or a complete lack of objectivity.
Michelle is an incurable religious kook who also has migraines. Probably caused by being married to that bizarre gay person -- yikes! What a creepy duo!
Doctorate from Bible-based Coburn School of Law. Where?
As a tax attorney - From 1988 to 1993, Bachmann was a U.S. Treasury Department attorney in St. Paul, Minnesota, representing the IRS against people who underpaid or failed to pay their taxes. Now she says we are taxed too much. Really?
To her accomplishments as a multiterm congressperson- Now in her third House term, Bachmann has never had a bill or resolution she’s sponsored signed into law, and she’s never wielded a committee gavel, either at the full or subcommittee level. Bachmann’s amendments and bills have rarely been considered by any committee, even with the House under GOP control.
The most difficult part of all of this is being able to actually tell when she is cognitively impaired and when she's just being herself.
Another cause for Mrs. Bachman's migraines could very well be her inability to have an effective bowel discharge. As any parent would know, this can cause extreme pain and, if not cured, headaches to the point of them being migraines.
As a Tea Party favorite, she is, by definition, full of fecal matter.
Bruce, You've been eating too many fruit loops. Better qualified than Obama? This Loony Toon graduated from that great institute of higher learning, Winona State Univ. and than received her law degree from the famed Oral Roberts Univ, whose law school than became Regent Univ. which than became Liberty Univ, whose claim to fame is that 70% of their graduates did not pass the law board. Yes indeedy much more qualified than Columbia Univ. and a Law degree from Harvard. No less head of Harvard Law review. You nut jobs are really giving me a migraine. DUH!
Why thank you, good of you to notice. And yes they add just as much as all of the Bachman jabs do. Get back to me when you post a similar comment to all of them.
Susi-Oh: My mother suffered from migraines, but I am still not going to get suckered into attacking Michele Bachmann for some medical issue. I will use her as a punching bag for her bat sh-it crazy politics. The headaches are a very trivial issue IMHO.
Well gee Shelly, if you really believe you can "pray away the gay" then I strongly suggest you learn to "pray away the migraine".
Doesn't work?
Duh!
When we get a play-by-play of a sitting President's colonoscopy with graphics whether we want to see them or not, then Shelly's migraines are going to be an issue whether she wants them to be or not.
I understand migraines - it's hard to be 'on the ball' and be able to function clearly. Do I want that one next to the nuclear button? Uh, HELL NO.
agree with Jahmekan - there are too many other reasons this crazy lady shouldnt be president, migraines arent even close to being one of them - debilitating or not.
as a lesbian, the minute I heard her husband speak...I knew he's been praying away his own gay since he was 5.
So, here's an intersting question: if Michelle's husband is gay, and michelle is not...can someone explain to me why praying away the gay, even though it doesnt work beyond DENIAL, is a good situation for someone like Michelle (again, assuming she's not rowing the same boat as her husband)?
Think about it, how happy would you be to find out your wife or husband has been gay this whole time, fighting to keep it buried inside and completely and wholey unattracted to you this entire time beyond BEST FRIEND?
is this the world crazy straight people want to live in, where their spouse is simply pretending so as not to upset the religious nuts?
Cuz, I certainly would never want to marry some douche man to make anyone happy...and subsequently make both of us miserable. its illogical at best...horribly sad at worst.
Bachmann problems, are her opinions, lack of knowledge and ideology. I'm somewhat sorry, to hear she has migraines but its mitigated by the fact that her babbling causes to me to ROTFL and I can't catch my breath and my rib cage hurts.
No doubt about it, it's sexist. BO never showed his medical records. Clinton never showed his. I'm not sure who did and who didn't, but to me it's all or none! I personally believe that Alzheimer's was affecting Reagan during his second term. My opinion. I guess we'll never really know? We know now that JFK had numerous physical ailments and FDR was wheel chair bound. If we need to screen the medical records of candidates; then, let it be ALL candidates.
We still haven't seen any of the grades from Columbia or Harvard, or the application and/or explanation for how he got admitted (or who paid for it). There are a LOT of good universities out there. Just because someone's degrees are not from an Ivy league school doesn't mean they aren't every intelligent and educated. Conversely, there are a lot of Harvard grads who got there only because they had the right last name (and/or "sponsor").
Sounds exactly like Obama's resume heading into the White House. Only thing different is that Obama was an absentee for over 70 percent of the sessions congress was residing.
Back then all I heard and read that he didn't fit in to the "old ways of legislating". Now, your calling her out for exactly what Obama was and is!
I had to go away for a while but couldn't let your fantasy go uncorrected.
From GovTrack.us, and InfoUSA-
Barack Obama sponsored 137 bills from 4 Jan 2005 until 16 November 2008. Two became law. This figure does not include bills to which Obama contributed as cosponsor, such as the Coburn-Obama Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 or the Lugar-Nunn Cooperative Proliferation Detection, Interdiction Assistance, and Conventional Threat Reduction Act of 2006. Nor does it include amendments to other bills, although in the Senate these are not required to be germane to the parent bill and can therefore effectively be bills in their own right. During the same time period, Obama has co-sponsored 689 bills in total; 408 of which had secured his support by the day they were originally introduced in the Senate.
That adds up to more in 3 years than Bachmann has done in 3 terms.
id like to know what obama is on, i sat a public blood test? i suspect cocaine. if bachmans personal medical issues are the publics business, so is obamas. you see is purple lips, skinny ass, bug out eyes, and radical behavior lead many americans wondering, is obama a crack head? you know obama has discussed his history of cocaine use, most cocaine users i know never stop. i know wealthy men who have been using it for over 50 years. i think a blood test is in order, we can have some republican MDs weigh in on the "serious issue". fair is fair, right libs.
The Minnesota Independant states that Bachmann has missed more votes than any member of the Minn. congressional delegation, and is 11th in missed votes of the entire House of Reps., missing 13.6% of all votes. She has more important things to do than vote for her district, apparently. Her migraines or just her running around to Tea Party meetings?
A non issue, Ulysses S. Grant suffered from Migraines and was on his back resting from one when he got the word General Lee wanted to surrender,he got up, performed his duty in spite of it, and went on to perform in the White House.Ms.Bachmann has performed her duties inspite of them, something Obama and the Democrats have utterly failed to do and they have nothing at all wrong with them, unless of course, demonstrated incompetence is considered a disability, but then again, being Democrats , that is a possibility.
Bachmann's husband gets GOV., subsidies for his business of gay management to pray away the gay in people and turns gays into straight. Is this sick or what ? Also the Bachmann's get 250,000 a year in farm subsidies. " Boy they know how to MILK THE SYSTEM " I smell fraud ? Time for a investigation. Bachmann's husband is a sick a$$ weird dude.
I have NEVER seen the ugliness towards fellow Americans/humans than what a lot of you take JOY in. You know who you are!
I have seen it a lot, from the "Conservatives" every time they can. We are not making fun of her disease, we are making fun of her... And if you do not think how dangerously funny she is, they it is you who deserve our commiseration
So she missed votes....she is obviously not as qualified as odumbo who managed to show up but could only vote present....the cocaine use must have destroyed his ability to form an opinion of his own.
www.govtrack.us, BO missed 314 of 1,300 roll call votes or 24%. What was his problem? NEXT!!!!
That usually happens when you're a congressman running for president. McCain missed a lot of roll calls too but the graph shows that they happened when he was running for president twice. Same with John Kerry who missed a lot of roll calls when he ran for president. If you check the graph on Bachmann you'll see that she is missing a lot of roll calls now because she is doing a lot of campaigning.
she is obviously not as qualified as odumbo who managed to show up but could only vote present....the cocaine use must have destroyed his ability to form an opinion of his own.
That means GWB was on some pretty good cocaine deciding to invade 2 countries not having anything to do with terrorism, taking our country 1 step closer to a police state and putting us in a massive debt hole we may never get out of because of tax cuts and military spending.
If her migraines can be reasonably controlled then it's not an issue.
However, severe migraines can be absolutely debilitating -- if she is having severe ones that impair her functioning, then it IS a problem. The President of the United States has an extremely full and tight schedule on most days. There's no room for shutting everything down 5-10 times a month due a migraine. Imagine if -- God forbid -- our country suffers a serious attack from a foreign power.
As commander in chief of our country's military, the president needs to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year -- at a moment's notice -- to respond to an attack. We can't say "Oops, our country is under attack but...dang the bad luck...the commander of our nation's military is unavailable due to a debilitating medical condition. "
Bachman is truly the turd that just won't flush, and I never ever ever ever wanted to defend her. Put this headache crap is sexist B.S. "Egads, she has a megrem and her courses!" Last I checked the victorian era was long past. Her stupidity and bigotry will defeat her, no need to bring in the headaches.
Is she saying she plans to be ineffective regardless of her debilitating migraines? In that case, I suppose her migraines won't alter her effectiveness (or lack thereof).
I'm going to pull a Bachmann reality twist and assume what she meant to say was:
My inability to function effectively will not affect my ability to serve as commander-in-chief.
...presumably because she has no respect for the office of president, which she has already indicated, and because she has problems dealing in the real world, with real people.
Eric !- You left off, she will declare herself the Supreme Priestess of the Living Lord "here on earth" Inc. And rescind all Federal Presidential elections forthwith because Jesus told her too. I'll forgive you this time, but don't ever let it happen again!
Paul F, you are certainly not qualified to make psychiatric diagnoses or you would know that a diagnosis of narcissism requires identification of type. However, I also feel certain that minor issues like being qualified will not prevent you from moving ahead. So, who has the disorder? At the very least, try to stay on topic. We are talking about Bachmann and in this case her inability to clearly making a point after stating her intention to do so. It's funny
what_the_81,
The speculation is that Abe Lincoln may have had Marfan's disorder. This is a genetic disorder of the connective tissue. He was not diagnosed with it nor was he medicated for it. It is not a disorder that took him out of action for hours or even days at a time. It is not debilitating, as migraines and the medications used to treat them are.
I remember when GWB sounded this ridiculous when he first started campaigning. And we got exactly what we deserved when we failed to take his bid seriously. He lost by a quarter of a million votes but there was still a strong enough propaganda apparatus in place, thanks to News Corp, to make sure that did not matter.
This woman is nothing to laugh at. She is not stupid. Ignorant, bigoted, deeply self-satisfied and occasionally incoherent, but not stupid. She is also a determined politician, and she is not a drama queen like Palin is. She doesn't react to or get flustered by criticism. So, pay attention to taking her down.
Well if she has real migraines and just not head aches she definitely disqualified herself. Presidents undergo a lot of stress (just look at how fast they age), have to go under constant criticism, find people to the blame, lose the people around them, etc, etc... she would most likely throw a tantrum and die of a stroke.
nate - Do you realize what it costs to throw a presidential funeral? Not chump change to say the least! And the incalculable cost to loss of productivity from the national holiday and office parties thrown to celebrate the "Higher Powers" providential intercession. Just saying.
My inability to function effectively will not affect my ability to serve as commander-in-chief.
Maybe she meant "My ability to function effectively will not affect my inability to serve as commander-in-chief." Either way her statement makes about as much sense as the lifetime of Bushisms we have had to endure.
Even Obama has his stupid-beyond-belief moments.....
It was at a campaign appearance in Beaverton, Oregon, on May 9, 2008 that Obama said, "It is just wonderful to be back in Oregon. And over the last 15 months we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states; I think one left to go."
57, with "I think one left to go"??????? So how many total, Obama? 58, 59, come on, you can do it!!! Oh shoot, the teleprompter just went blank!
Brad - Tumors can't grow in a vacuum. Now come up with an alternate diagnosis, something more believable, as for example like she's was just "Born This Way"! GaGa ew La La. Also With bat - either use @!$%#e or scat or dodo, they pass thru filters effectively, it works well for me. Just saying.
Next thing you know, she'll be disqualified to run for president because she can get pregnant....
I don't know why she *had* to admit to having migraines...I'm sure other presidents were susceptible to having migraines and they weren't publicized...
Because health concerns are relevent to a leader's ability to do his/ her job, even if the health concerns are not her fault. From what I understand (my mother used to get migraines), they happen without warning, and all you can do is lie down for a day or two in the dark until they go away.
I am sorry that anyone, including Bachmann, has to suffer such horrible pain. However, it does relate directly to her ability to be President, since the President cannot afford to simply call in sick and lie down for a day or two.
As far as being able to get pregnant, Bachmann is 55 years old. The odds of that happening naturally are so small as to be considered impossible. I don't think being pregnant interferes with ones' ability to do their job anyway.
Clotho- depending on the severity, there are new meds, including OTC, that can clear up a migrane in an hour or two. I can take an excedrin migrane and have my vision issues start to clear up within 10 minutes. If you can figure out your triggers, you can avoid them for the most part.
My job requires a professional licensure. I suffer from migraines. I have to use the discretion not to go to work when I'm on my medication for them because - well, it's dangerous. On the other hand, I HAVE figured out my triggers and can avoid them fairly easily, as such have not had a migraine since I started avoiding my triggers. But not everyone can do that, pinpointing triggers is difficult to do.
Clotho...my comment about her getting pregnant was meant as sarcasm...I know she has a small chance of getting pregnant again..that being said, if one of the current gentlemen running for the Presidency admitted to migraines, would this be an issue? To date, I have never heard any man running for the Presidency say "I get migraines".
I too suffer from migraines and the OTC stuff is like water for me. I take prescription meds, but know from past experience when a migraine is coming on. My migraines have rarely had me down and calling in to miss work, this is due to the prescription meds I'm taking. My mom, before taking the meds she is on now, used to have to sit in a dark room with a towel over her eyes. Now, she, like me, takes the meds available now and we are much better with them.
No reasonable person would suggest anymore that possession of a uterus has any bearing (sorry) on one's qualification to be president. Possibly debilitating illnesses are another matter. And the story says Jefferson may have suffered migraines, but in his era, crises approached at the speed of horseback and could be handled a little more leisurely than nowadays. In the specific case of Rep. Bachmann, I personally see countless other reasons to not vote for her, such as her shaky grasp of our history and her antiquated, backward, counterproductive views on myriad issues.
I was willing to give Bachmann the benefit of a doubt, "Oh, come on, people can function, it's a non-issue --" and then this morning my new assistant called in sick with a migraine -- showed up to fill out her time slip (required today) looking like the walking dead. So here I am pulling a ten-hour without a break, and don't know if she'll be able to function tomorrow, either. I am so re-thinking the migraine issue today! This is an otherwise healthy woman who was unable to hold her head up or speak above a whisper. And she said that the drugs she takes to allieviate symptoms don't always work, and other pain meds upset her stomach. This simply wouldn't work in a president. I object to Bachmann on many levels, but on this one where I thought I could give her a pass -- uh-unh. Valid issue.
DR2011: Stress, travel, lack of sleep, unusually eating habits are all known triggers for migrains. An aid to Mrs. Bachman has stated that, in the past, her migraines have made her unavailable for several days.
Good person to have as commander-in-chief: the person lying down, in the dark, screaming to "turn-off-the-damn-light and be quiet!!!" when approached about the latest terrorist threats. Having had a migraine, that is what you do.
This is totally relevent. It is not because she is a woman. It is because it DOES affect her ability to be the President. In today's modern era, JFK and FDR would not be elected. Their debilitating conditions would preclude them from being chosen over someone who was phyiscally healthier. Why do you think that both masked their conditions ?
Up until Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton and George W. Bush directly lied to the American people, the press and America would overlook their physical short comings and private (i.e sex) lives. Now, because we have been lied to about everything from war to having sex, no member of the public believes their President and the press feels obligated to verify every aspect of their lives. That is why we know Barack Obama smokes.
I have no doubt Michele can find the trigger of her gun, most 2nd admendment adherents can, as for stress triggers not so much, finding her way out of a lady's restroom, probably not without a breadcrumb trail.
dirp: Yes, stress, travel, odd/abnormal/atypical sleep and eating patterns are commonly triggers for migraines. But for many, those alone are not the biggest triggers. In my case any many others - triggers can be additives to foods, certain foods themselves. In that sense, people who have ruled out the common triggers or who have done something to reduce the impact that those triggers have on them but still have migraines, may have less common triggers. Getting the less common triggers figured out can be very difficult. Not that there aren't more obvious triggers, but in my case (and I'm sure) many others - it's not black and white. In my case, after journaling about days I had migraines and did not (specifically food and activity), it seemed as if gluten (a plant protein commonly found in wheat and other grains) is the cause. Avoiding gluten has allowed me to remain migraine-free.
I guess that's where I stand with this. That there is no black and white answer. I don't think Bachmann should be disqualified solely on account of having migraines. I don't particularly care for her style and some of her ideas, but I disagree with her on the basis of ideas and not medical conditions. I would take offense if someone tried to take my job from me because I *might* have a migraine. That's like saying you should be disqualified because something *might* happen to cause you to need something (ex emergency surgery). Granted, I am not and likely will never be President, but I think it's a bit judgmental of people to sit here and say that just because of this she should completely be disregarded. Not being available for days, that is concerning. Seems like it would be in her best interest to release more information.
Me personally, having worked through figuring out my triggers, I can with near absolute certainty, avoid my triggers, and in avoiding triggers I can avoid my migraines. Not everyone is this lucky.
Migraine sufferers have to take some very powerful drugs for treatment. I dont want a president who has to rely on these dangerous drugs that screw with the mind.
I used to have horrible migraines but since I was put on a beta blocker (metoprolol) for a mild arrhythmia, I haven't had a single migraine. That's a "beneficial side effect" of beta blockers.
Even without the migraines and dangerous drugs having an insane person in the oval office is the last thing America needs. Make no mistake Bachmann is at least 3 cans short of a six pack.
@ TJP77 - and today he would never get away with it (along with his private on-the-side sex life).
I've been fortunate to not suffer from the sort of migraines that affect Michele Batchmann and others. I do know what they go through. Most have had to force themselves to continue to just go to work and live their lives in spite of it and it was very, very difficult. I knew one girl who couldn't make it without her migraine medication that she took in with a needle. Even then - in spite of all the ways of coping - there were times they had to lie down in a dark room for a day or so. It's horrid.
It's too bad that even in this day and age of modern science, we still haven't found a way to eliminate these migraines once and for all.
It worries me just a little, that Michele Bachmann has to take a strong drug for her migraines, I would feel a lot better if she was on crack it would probably help her become a better person with a different set of mental issues.
This conversation about migraines means nothing. She's a nutcase, going nowhere and she's is NOT going to get the nomination. Less than a year from now she will be as forgotten as Dan Quayle.
You're being too complimentary of the Republican party. "She's a nutcase, going nowhere and she's is NOT going to get the nomination." The supporters of the Republicans are genuinely stupid humans. They would elect an orangutan if it were a Republican.
I wish you were right about Bachmann not getting the nomination. Unfortunately, she will be the GOP nominee and will win by a landslide. We have lots of people in this country that are just as crazy or more so, than Bachmann.
People get a grip, Michele Bachmann is "Manna from above", does anyone really believe she'd get elected President, now really! If it did come to pass, it would make me an atheist believe in REM's song "Its the end of the world as we know it".
Migraines are not what disqualify her although, it would make her choice of VP incredibly important. Why she is not fit to be president has nothing at all to do with physical issues and everything to do with her ideology and political behavior. Her complete lack of understanding of how the world's economy actually works and her extreme religious views are enough to make her totally unsuitable for the presidency.
The evidence of her impairment is already prevalent; it is somehow comforting to know that it is likely powerful narcotics that cause her current lack of faculties.
I thought of Arnold in Kindergarden Cop when I read this story. The kids said to Arnold when he had a headache "Maybe you have a tumor"?? I think this crazy Bi-otch is a cancer we can hopefully pass on future misery.......
Fortunately for the United States, physical informities have never interfered with any President in the performance of his duties since l930. Oh yes, we had a major President suffer from a slight infirmity -- polio -- for the entire four terms he served as our leader during (well nothing important, just WWII) his terms of office. HE COULDN'T EVEN STAND UP, and he could hardly breath, and it was incurable. FDR. He handled it just fine. I myself have had migraines most of my life. It didn't keep me from serving as a Deputy District Attorney in heavy trial work, prosecuting criminals. Heck, a little otc non-prescription Brite-life made the headaches and stomach disorder go right away, in minutes. Dr. Lee Kudrow, the father of Lisa Kudrow& a renowned physician in Sherman Oaks, California, has treated thousands of Migraine sufferers by hypnosis!!!!!!!!
But a guy like Ross, well, what he has is incurable...he should just be fired. Papparrazzi (sp)mentality is not what we need in America. We love Michele.
JFK could barely walk because of his back degrading due to steroids used to treat his Addison's disease... debilitating illness does not disqualify.... the problem is Bachman also suffers from debilitating stupidity as well.
The press down played the Addison's disease and the medicine even made JFK look like he had (what was believed then) a "healthy tan." The time he had to spend flat on his back was attributed, by some, to wounds received in WWII. In today's world, he would not get past the exploratory stage.
Does MN allow you to run for 2 offices simultaneously ? If not, then we can at least be grateful she is running and will be out of Congress. If so, then there is yet another reason why you have to question the wisdom of anything coming out of MN.
dirp- Have you read "An Unfinished Life" it came out a few years ago and was the first JFK biography that had full access to the recently released medical files. It goes into great detail concerning the medical problems JFK experienced. Its a good read. Anyway the book discredits the war injury theory, instead, it finds that JFK's Addison'shad advanced at that point and it was not the injury that caused the recurring back problem it was the steroids weakening the back that caused the injury. But hey if it weren't for a plane crash in Europe he would never have been president anyway.
These migraines explain why Bachmann wants to be President - for the healthcare benefits. After the TeaBaggers eliminate the possibility of healthcare for the average person, the Pres will still be covered.
Mrs Bachamm is clearly presidential timber, She has a BA in Stupidity, a PHD in Divinity(her own twisted belief system), and several STD's from sleeping with her cross dressing husband. Run, Michele, Run! You apes*h*i*t, wanna be!
My daughter was diagnosed with Migraines for Oh I guess 10 years. suddenly things got very bad, partial loss of vision, huge weight loss aversion to light, noise etc.
Eventually hospital, not a migraine but a cyst (wrongly diagnosed initially as a tumor) in her purity gland
Brain surgery followed, at a cost of $154,000 (it was 12 years ago)
I relate this story because in this day & age no-one should be debilitated by migraine either its fixable with drugs or surgery.
And I am sure Ms Bachmann has the best of both available to her.
Bachman has the best medical care available to her as a Congressperson. On the other hand, she wants average Americans who are not members of Congress to tough it out with their medical conditions. Only the elite get best medical care available.
gsegal--you may also want to check out how much her husband is getting paid via Medicare or Medicaid and who knows there may be other govt programs that fatten his purse (and his circumference).
Excuse me? I've suffered from migraines since I was 5 years old - I'm now in my early 50s. I have seen new treatments come and go. Cafergot (old remedy) did NOTHING for my headaches. Fiorinol never touched them. Excedrin sometimes works. Imitrex (a triptan) works usually, but not everyone can take it. I have a cousin who can't take it. Topamax (a generally good preventative) left me with unusual taste-sensations and generally scrambled thinking. Not everything can be fixed by meds or surgery. My current medical insurance WILL NOT COVER the one med that I've never had to take a second dose of. FORGET about getting "elective" surgery covered.
If they operated on Michele Bachmann's head and nothing was found inside, would that eliminate her from seeking the Presidency? Just wondering. Its not like I'm expecting anything will be found, just more out of curiosity, really.
While I sympathize, from the bottom of my heart, with her physical disabilities, I hate her sexism, and homophobia. There may be a link to these dysfunctions, and her disease.
Does anyone know if any other Republican contenders belong to her cult or do they all belong to different cults like her, Romney and Huntsman. Its not that I think, there is anything wrong with that, but it would provide some context as to which nut-job is more qualified. Oh never mind, what difference could it possibly make! I'm glad I can put that to rest now.
You may be onto something, Backmann has been spreading her philosphy of hate for so long the bio feed back is taking it's toll. Of course she is insane [ look in her eyes you'll see it] so maybe thats the cause.
Look at the conditions in his (the President) home city and state. He did nothing to change the system or curtail the deficits that are wrecking our economy and makes Illinoisone of the least business friendly state in the nation. Anybody who thought he was a agent of change is mentally challenged. Ms Bachman is no prize but considering what we have now she is just another partisan hack, so what else is new.
You right wing trolls like to ignore that every step of President Obama's way, republipukes threw grenades.
No kidding. What really gets me is when they say things like "He didn't close GITMO" and the reason is that they blocked him, as they've done with everything, even things they liked before Obama was for it.
What- LOL I think GOD is trying to tell her something, and she just won't listen. She has already caught the bus to CRAZY TOWN!!!! Trying to learn and remember facts, can really put a strain on a small brain.
"And topiramate, an anti-seizure drug commonly prescribed to prevent migraines, causes cognitive impairment — difficulty finding the right word or problems with short-term memory."
My then-preteen daughter took topiramate (Topamax) for seizures for a few years until it just stopped working. Kept her artificially very skinny, looks to be the case for Bachmann, too. Some people refer to Topamax as "Dopamax", it does make a person a bit spacey. My daughter also had migraines from the time she was a toddler, was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 11.
That said, disabilities alone should not keep people from positions of power. The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has had at least two significant seizures, he's still on the job.
Migraines (or the drugs "difficulty finding the right word or problems with short-term memory"), sure explains a lot to me. Unlike Bush, she has an excuse...
Oh Bush had an excuse, a real one. He spent the first twenty years of his adult life as a coke snorting drunk, pissing brain cells every day of his life. Alcoholism causes brain damage. Sounds like a good excuse to me...
I do not have a headache. I do not even take any pain pills. I do not even need to take vitamins, nor taking any medications. I am a healthy woman. And I know how to take care myself at least.
We cannot afford anyone with ailments to be in the White House. If one has not been elected, one is already having illness/sickness, then one is not a good candidate for the White House.
Have we forgotten that President Obama has already taken care of a lot of things, including travelling? It just reminds us that one has migraine, one may continually depend upon medication for one's life. And the dependency of medication may be accumulated for one's life time. That is not a good things either.
Another thing is the White House title has come along with a lot of enery, stress and responsibilities. Hope she can make a wise choice to withdraw now. The smiling and denial may be the factors that hides the real physical and mental problems.
Have you heard of FDR's challenges with polio? There is a good comment about him further up the page if you would like to read it... Many presidents have had health problems, and have done fine in office.
Taking care of yourself is not always synonymous with being healthy and without disease or problems. I take care of myself the best I can yet still suffer from several chronic issues, including migraines. I don't like the attitude that some have that we are in complete control of our health. To some extent, yes, but not entirely. We all age. We all die.
I don't like Ms. Bachmann's politics but cringe at the headline that having migraines makes her unsuitable for a job. I think it reeks of sexism. This would not even be in the news if she was not a woman.
I had a migraine this morning. I took my prescription and I am at work, same as always. I've called in sick before because of the headache, but so what, my male co-workers call in sick for hangovers so isn't that worse? I have sick time to use at my discretion, I don't need to be a martyr for "never taking a sick day".
You think any of our past presidents never had a bad day where they didn't feel 100%?
The President can have "a bad day where they [don't] feel 100%." However, the President can't just "call in sick." When the President calls in sick, it creates a Constitutional situation requiring the President to relinquish the office to the Vice President. Do you really want to put someone in office, male or female, who you KNOW will probably have to utilize that amendment ?
If so, wouldn't you be better off just electing whoever is the VP ?
I'm not familiar with Polio. Does it cause mental problems or is it just physical - i.e. can't walk?
Have you heard of FDR's challenges with polio? There is a good comment about him further up the page if you would like to read it... Many presidents have had health problems, and have done fine in office.
Many people with physical disabilities are very sharp mentally. We already know that Bachmann is not very sharp mentally.
I'm not sure I can make the stretch to sexism. I've not (yet) seen a post where anybody cracked, "Nuclear attack? Not tonight, Muammar, I've got a headache." (Sorry, couldn't resist, but didn't even think about it until reading your post.)
I would want to know about this issue if a man was dealing with it as well.
On the other hand, as Ms. Bachmann is devoutly and loudly of a faith that preaches subservience to her husband, it may be a sexist observation -- but I think that alone should definitely disqualify her as president. Leader of the free world but not of your own household? How does that work again?
"We already know that Bachmann is not very sharp mentally."
I am amused by all the clever comments and heartened to know that Bachmann isn't fooling everyone. That's a huge relief...in fact, I think my headache is going away.
To the Dude; No, migraines can be easily managed and treated, and they do not interfere with anything. Where did you get the idea that this is a serious illness? I had migraines all of my life until now, when they went away (I'm 79). I got through Cal Berkeley, Loyola Law School, the Army, (where I was cleared for SECRET), served as a Deputy District Attorney in jury trials for 25 years in Los Angeles County, and I have written three books. AS for Michele being anything less than a genius, a great success story, and a leader, you've got to understand that just putting up with people like you would give anyone a migraine.
Gordon read the article, her migraines are not easily controlled.
Like someone said on an earlier post. (You ccouldn't make DA?)
My husband suffered for years with migraines but once he started taking a medication that was prescribed they occurred less and less, he hasn't had one for years. On the other hand a good friend's daughter has them and no medication helps her, she has tried them all.....she does have to be in a closed room with her face covered for hours on end, until they pass. So, yes that type of medical issue would have a bearing on her ability to function as president.
I don't usually respond, but Gordon your comment took me by surprise. As someone who has suffered from migraines for years and knows other migraine suffers I can honestly tell you that some people can't control their migraines. It doesn't matter how they watch their diets or what medicines are available. I myself suffer from them so bad, there are times nothing works - not even injections from the doctor. Some people don't even realize that there are some triggers that can't be controled. I've had neurologists tell me that some people are triggered by a change in atmospheric or berometric pressure - such as before a storm. Others can be triggered by smoke, perfumes or florescent lights.
riker - Maybe its just god's way, to start some evil peoples lives in hell here on earth, so they can become acclimated to the real thing in the hereafter. I've heard He's a merciful god, so be forewarned. Mrs Bachmann, hope you love your accomodations, cause eternity is forever. Repent and get a clue!
I am far less concerned about the migraines that Bachmann suffers than I am about the headaches she causes.
Yeah. Aside from migraines, there are plenty of reasons why she should not be president.
I agree...she worries me more on her Tea Party status than anything else
To have migraines you need to have a brain... Does she qualify for such a diagnoses?
Is this the same lady that wants to cut benefits to our disabled veterans and eliminate the minimum wage?
Shame!
I pride myself on being Democrat, but this is just stupid. Why would any Dr. lend their comments to this ridiculous issue. She is fine, if we are just talking about migraines. That is not the issue we should be focusing on. So, drop the fluff news and stick to her politics.
*shake my head
Perhaps it is the little alien inside her head desperately trying to get out.
It's not so much her headaches that worry me as her thoughts.
Obama's rectal cranial inversion and Biden's narcolepsy haven't been an issue so why should this?
"causes cognitive impairment"... this explains a lot
Awesome response!! I couldn't agree with you more!
Constant lying and deceiving creates stress and coupled with being ignorant to everything in the real world, one should get Migraines, big time.
Pretending you have a Perfect Marriage is a pile on too.
Rolled into one package, it should definitely disqualify Bachmann.
The other fringe elements of her life like the Tea Party goes too without questions.
DUH!
Being the first female dilettante to run for the POTUS has to be stressful.
Like it was for the Wizard of Oz when TOTO exposed him for the phony he was.
I'm sure he got a migraine at that moment too. Pay no attention to the smoke and mirror show!
Bassai -- you are so witty. And your comments add so much to the conversation. Thank you.
Why thank you, good of you to notice. And yes they add just as much as all of the Bachman jabs do. Get back to me when you post a similar comment to all of them.
I think her migraines are from SUPRESSING THE FACT THAT HER
CHUBBY HUBBY IS A LITTLE LIGHT IN THE LOAFERS!!!
P.S. Am I the only one who thinks he looks just like LIBERECE!?
"Pray he's not gay."
"I can't respond to the nuclear missiles coming from Iran, I have a migraine" - President Michelle Bachmann
(Alternative Time Line 2014)
id like to see doctors weigh in on the child king obamas temper tantrums. a head doctor.
Another reason for her to schedule that appointment at the vet for a labotomy.
I know why more women get migraines than men, because they stress themselves out and are a pain in the butt, even to themselves!!
Is she curing her headaches right now campaigning in South Carolina while the country's in the middle of a meltdown?
She has nothing to worry about, she is way too stupid and nutty to sell America anything but a load of C**P.
For those of you out there that say, "Stupidity should be painful"...
Bruce, get back to us on that if you ever catch Obama hiding in the bushes spying on gays, will you?
Sounds exactly like Obama's resume heading into the White House. Only thing different is that Obama was an absentee for over 70 percent of the sessions congress was residing.
Back then all I heard and read that he didn't fit in to the "old ways of legislating". Now, your calling her out for exactly what Obama was and is!
Make up your mind! Poop or get off the pot!
The left side of her brain is fatally crippled.
cheetah - And that was her semi-functional good side, so sad and hopeless. Gonna have to put her down, its for her on good.
Bruce -
I absolutely agree.
George W. Bush - MBA - Harvard
Maybe that 'titanium spine' is the cause of her migraines
Why she was stupid long before her first migraine, and she will remain so long after today.
kaybeetoys-- someone was in the bushes spying on obama, google it.
kapokeefe,
I had to go away for a while but couldn't let your fantasy go uncorrected.
Her migraines or just her running around to Tea Party meetings?
www.govtrack.us, BO missed 314 of 1,300 roll call votes or 24%. What was his problem? NEXT!!!!
So evidently you can get migraines by having your head up your ass 24 hours a day like she does.
You naysayers, you go right ahead and nominate Ms. Bachmann, she will gaurantee Pres. Obama's re-election. Us, Dems will thank you right now.
Did anyone else happen to notice what she said about her migraines?
"My ability to function effectively will not affect my ability to serve as commander-in-chief."
I, for one, am glad to hear her get it out in the open so soon and so bluntly that she'll be an incompetent president no matter what.
Hockey Guy
I have seen it a lot, from the "Conservatives" every time they can. We are not making fun of her disease, we are making fun of her... And if you do not think how dangerously funny she is, they it is you who deserve our commiseration
So she missed votes....she is obviously not as qualified as odumbo who managed to show up but could only vote present....the cocaine use must have destroyed his ability to form an opinion of his own.
@ follow the yellow brick road.
Azrancher
That means GWB was on some pretty good cocaine deciding to invade 2 countries not having anything to do with terrorism, taking our country 1 step closer to a police state and putting us in a massive debt hole we may never get out of because of tax cuts and military spending.
No Party affiliations
Uhhhh, what???
I'd like to think she misspoke, but then again...
Is she saying she plans to be ineffective regardless of her debilitating migraines? In that case, I suppose her migraines won't alter her effectiveness (or lack thereof).
I had the same thought, that sentence makes no sense. She must have said it while experiencing a migraine! :-P
I'm going to pull a Bachmann reality twist and assume what she meant to say was:
...presumably because she has no respect for the office of president, which she has already indicated, and because she has problems dealing in the real world, with real people.
In a migraine moment, President Michelle Bachmann rescinds separation of church and state........ (Alternative Time Line 2013)
Eric !- You left off, she will declare herself the Supreme Priestess of the Living Lord "here on earth" Inc. And rescind all Federal Presidential elections forthwith because Jesus told her too. I'll forgive you this time, but don't ever let it happen again!
Didn't Abe Lincoln have a disease? That didn't stop him from being a pretty good president.
But then again, Lincoln wasn't clueless
ROTF! ;p
I'm still wondering when Doctors are going to comment how Obama's narcissism affects his ability to fulfill his duties as the President.
Still waiting.....
Bueller?..... Bueller.....
Paul F - Cut back on the Ritalin and increase the anti-delusion meds, if that doesn't work make another appointment.
Richard - thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only person struggling to figure out what that means.
Well basically what she's saying is that she may be ineffective, but she will still be president. Or in other words, just another politician. ROFL.
@ Andrew
Migraines are the least of Bachmann's disqualifications.
But it somewhat explains her batshiat craziness. I mean, it may be a tumor.
And yes, the Kindergarten Cop reference is there.
Hey, at least she's not a witch (not proven at any rate)
Batshiat? LOL
Can't spell sh*t.......bwahahahaha!
"EETS NOT A TUMA!"
Just saying.
you also referenced 'Casino' by saying Batshiat
For some the triggers are things like stress or not enough sleep that are unavoidable when you are the president.
Migraines are often triggered by stress. Probably run into a bit of that in the Oval Office.
Roy Rogers sure was good at figuring out his Trigger.
Oh wait....
... and my wife is good at figuring out her trigger
I have no doubt Michele can find the trigger of her gun, most 2nd admendment adherents can, as for stress triggers not so much, finding her way out of a lady's restroom, probably not without a breadcrumb trail.
Actually, she may just be setting up an excuse for any time off she may need later.
dirp: Yes, stress, travel, odd/abnormal/atypical sleep and eating patterns are commonly triggers for migraines.
John F. Kennedy was on intense narcotic painkillers for 100% of his presidency.
I think the evidence that she has already been impaired is fairly obvious.
Rush Limbaugh was addicted to pain killers and that hasn't stopped him from saying anything stupid.
I used to have horrible migraines but since I was put on a beta blocker (metoprolol) for a mild arrhythmia, I haven't had a single migraine. That's a "beneficial side effect" of beta blockers.
So what, Rustyboy? I thought you libs want to legalize all drugs.
Please do your research on what drugs these people take before shooting off your mouth.
This conversation about migraines means nothing. She's a nutcase, going nowhere and she's is NOT going to get the nomination. Less than a year from now she will be as forgotten as Dan Quayle.
Dan who?
You're being too complimentary of the Republican party. "She's a nutcase, going nowhere and she's is NOT going to get the nomination." The supporters of the Republicans are genuinely stupid humans. They would elect an orangutan if it were a Republican.
Dan Quayle, you know the republican vice president that could not spell potatoes. Haha
Um, I think you mean he couldn't spell potatoe...
Flex, they already did. That orangutan was named George W. Bush. Google the two and see what comes up.
Pray for her.
I thought of Arnold in Kindergarden Cop when I read this story. The kids said to Arnold when he had a headache "Maybe you have a tumor"?? I think this crazy Bi-otch is a cancer we can hopefully pass on future misery.......
That's OK, she will not be the one governing anyway. Marcus and god will stand in.
ok, now I have a migraine.
It should go without saying, but the Bachmann's make me constipated and irritable. Thanks for listening.
She does not have migraines. That is the crazy trying to break out of her head! AS we all know she is C R A Z Y!!!!!!!
You are my hero.... this just made my day :)
Eleanor ran the country.
FDR being in a wheelchair is a far cry from Bachmann being totally delusional.
If so, then there is yet another reason why you have to question the wisdom of anything coming out of MN.
obviously it stopped you from becoming district attorney.
dirp- Have you read "An Unfinished Life" it came out a few years ago and was the first JFK biography that had full access to the recently released medical files.
Just what we need, a hypnotized president!
Who's this "we" that loves Michelle? You and..... ?
Seems to me a vast majority knows she's unfit.
Migraines have zilch to do with it.
That sounds awful. Nobody should have to endure that. Is your daughter all right now?
I know you meant to type "pituitary gland."
Of course in Bachmann's case it is the purity gland.
Cloho, yes and she has been for a dozen years with out so much as a headache of note.
Thanks for asking
I suspect her homophobia, misogyny and general nuttiness can be attributed to her cult, not her migraines.

So what's crybaby obama's excuse for not being able to lead?
They are called REPUBLICANS!!!
Incompetence. Hyper partisanship. Inexperience. Lack of imagination...
"I'd like to be abundantly clear: My ability to function effectively will not affect my ability to serve as commander-in-chief."
100% correct. It's her STUPIDITY that affects her ability to serve as commander-in-chief.
Does anyone know what MB MEANS in this statement?
"And topiramate, an anti-seizure drug commonly prescribed to prevent migraines, causes cognitive impairment — difficulty finding the right word or problems with short-term memory."
So she's not really stupid. She's on drugs.
Oh I didn't mean to say launch, I meant to say lunch. How many nucular warheads did u say?
Billie perfect be carefull you won't die healty no one does!
Does it cause mental problems or is it just physical - i.e. can't walk?
Many people with physical disabilities are very sharp mentally. We already know that Bachmann is not very sharp mentally.
nerd --
I'm not sure I can make the stretch to sexism.
Shoot, if OTC meds don't quite take care of my migraine within a few hours, a visit to my chiropractor fixes me right up.
It's not the migraines, it's her nutty ideas that are bad for the country.
Gordon is a nut job. HE needs to be evaluated.... by a mental health doctor!!!
Why would God plague Bachmann with migraine headaches? Is he punishing her for her many sins? Bad God!
riker - Maybe its just god's way, to start some evil peoples lives in hell here on earth, so they can become acclimated to the real thing in the hereafter. I've heard He's a merciful god, so be forewarned. Mrs Bachmann, hope you love your accomodations, cause eternity is forever. Repent and get a clue!
Maybe the headaches occur because she will do or say anything to get elected.
She has migraines because, she has given consideration to her own thoughts
which would give any body a headache.
Just being who she is disqualifies her.
Thinking is haaardd!
Yes, but has a doctor evaluated her mental health? That's what I want to know.
Her husband is the one that should have migranes. He is home with all the foster kids while she is in DC or on the road campaigning.
She gives me migraines.
i was thinking hemorrhoids!! migraines would be relief from this wacko with all the crap spewing from her hole.
