My father-in-law did all the right things - ate well, exercised, non-smoker, did a lot of reading & was very mechanically inclined, so was always working on something...still he succumbed to an Alzheimer's related dementia. So, sometimes you can do everything right & still get this disease. Sad.
I think the article is wrong. There is nothing you can do to stop the development of this horrible disease if you have the genes for it. Perhaps you can delay the beginning of it a little bit. Perhaps a breakthrough will come in the future.
On the other hand, there are other types of dementia that are not the same as Alzheimer's and are due to preventable things like diabetes II and atherosclerosis. Untreated vitamin B12 deficiency. Repeated concussion.
I would like the researchers to look at coconut oil please. There's a lot of anecdotal evidence about it. The first link is one newspaper story, the second is the search page of the St Pete Times for several articles.
Perhaps they should also look at immolation. Nobody who has immolated themselves has ever later come down with Alzheimers. This is a 100% rate.
The same with eating a shotgun. Nobody has come down with Alzheimers after blowing their head off.
Now can we post discussions of real science instead of crap science? This is the problem in this country - the nitwits cannot differentiate between real science and scams.
All Alzheimer’s is from blood sugar (You not not have to be diabetic) This is proven and reversible
A filmmaker has been reversing diabetes in Europe with Diet alone and one of the good side effects has been an improvement in Alzheimer and Dementia. People regained better memory
The filmmaker's DIABETES Diet has shown to be successful in 10 countries
Alzheimer's is a prion disease, meaning misfolded proteins in the brain form plaques. Not much link to blood sugar (although true, a healthy diet will help improve quality of life if you are suffering from most diseases).
Basically what this film maker demonstrates, and the "information" you are spreading, is that eating healthy makes you...well...healthy. Thank you, but that's a no brainer. Unfortunately not everyone stays healthy, values prevention, or eats healthy....they need real treatments for their problems. Read post 2.1...the last sentence is most relevant here.
Unfortunately "just google..." is not the most scholarly way to perform research. Try NCBI's PubMed. Try searching the NEJM. Try searching Nature.
The title is a falsehood, there are only 3 ways listed - not 7 as touted. It would have been good for them to include the other 4 but they apparently didn't care enough to do so. Ho hummm.
The headline is a falsehood. They only list 3 - not 7 ways. Alzheimer's is too serious of a subject to play around with folks - unfortunately the writer/website doesn't show much concern. Typical hype with little substance...ho hummmm. Go to: www.alz.org for a more complete picture and action plan.
And have the decency to die on time. When you start getting the symptoms, have your plan ready to go. If you are smart, you will carry out your plan and euthanize yourself. Show some decency to your family. Nursing homes suck, only want your money and you could be there for a long, long, long time with this disease. Your kids would not get their well deserved inheritance. You really want to do that to them? Let's be real here.
A bunch of "hooey and bunk"!!!!! A woman who owned her own business for nearly 30 years (sign of intellignece) was given the death sentence of ALZ. Same woman who read voraciously (sign of intelligence) in the last two years of her life, did not have the patience or the desire to read.
A woman who owned beautiful homes and spent all of her money before she came to the last segment of her life, had to rely on the system to help her survive. She never believed that she would live such a long life and only had accumulated enough to live on up to a certain point. Being a self-employed small business owner worrying about wealthy accounts paying-up on time did not create a easy way of life.
Yes, she smoked (like a fiend) till she became ill and then "forgot" that she smoked. No diabetes unti the last weeks of her life being induced by meds and illness. So, the theory that the "poor", uneducated humans are ASKING for the mind boggling disese is false. Evidently, the bad luck of the crappy draw is a precursor.
while leading a healthy lifestyle certainly doesn't hurt anyone, this lame and offensive article is nothing but a smokescreen to deflect the reader (who they hope is not intelligent) from questioning whether the chemicals we are constantly assaulted with is to blame. instead let's blame the victim for being fat, lazy and stupid!
There are about 75 different types of dementia. I think a lot is genetics and I'm also wondering if all the different medications that we take as we age don't contribute . Seems like every elderly person I know is on at least 3-5 different meds. It's just like cancer. There are so many different kinds, you can live a very healthy lifestyle but still get it. That's what happened to my mom. Healthy, no risk factors per se, died of uterine cancer .
As we all are told, smoking causes everything from hang-nails to STD's.
I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. (I just turned 68.) A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?' He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?' 'Oh no,' I replied.
Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs? 'I said, 'Not much... my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!' 'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't,' I said. He asked, 'Do you gamble, or have a lot of sex?' 'No,' I said. He looked at me and said... 'Then, why do you even give a @!$%#?
My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at age 55; akways ate healthy, exercised daily, no drugs ever, no smoking, bilingual, had a Master,...go and figure!...
Just one small enteric aspirin a day can lower your risk of Alzheimer's by 45%, not to mention lowering your risk of some forms of cancer, too. Just don't take aspirin while you are pregnant, since it can lead to problems in developing fetuses. Combined supplements like folate (folic acid), B3, B12, Vitamin C, D, & E, and even turmeric can also reduce your risk by as much as 80% or more. Also, middle-aged people who drank between three and five cups of coffee a day lowered their risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer's disease by between 60% and 65% later on in life.

My mother is suffering from it right now. She too was healthy, ate well, non-smokers and had a passion for puzzles.
Depression stress same coin different sides.. relax folks it is only one study one more puzzle piece .

Umm - Larry, you already said that once (post #4). Not a good sign in a discussion about Alzheimers, huh?
Just kidding - have a great day! :-)
Stay stoned.

So in essence, this would be the 8th and best way to fight Alzheimer's.
My mother walked everywhere, ate right and read voraciously but still got dementia. No one knows how to prevent it.
What?
This article is a bunch of hooey authored by someone who is a likely candidate for alzheimers based on the criteria he/she provided.
