Yet again, we have a title that is a wild exaggeration of what the article says. They changed the performance of individual neurons, but it explicitly states it did not change performance on the test. This is all very theoretical that any of these findings might someday lead to reversal of age related memory loss.
Yes, my mother suffers from dementia - she asks the same question about 5 times in a row, before she realizes she has already asked the question. If it could help to restore some short term memory, that would be wonderful.
I think this reminds more of Limitless than Planet of the Apes.
This is great news. The more we learn about how the brain works and how to keep it performing into old age the better our lives will be later on. Let's put it in the drinking water or the fountains in schools. Maybe it will help.
Maybe this is a really bad idea---improving brain function in older folks.
Perhaps it would be better of old folks of the future who aren't receiving social security checks or receiving medical care from Medicare because the government is busted should not have sharp minds.
It would be better if they just drifted off into dementia so they wouldn't have to fret about their miserable existence.
And I'm assuming you are including yourself in your statement, when in the future (all too soon, as you will realize) when you find your mental faculties fading. Be sure to have instructions in your Power of Attorney or other such medical directives to have no intervening when your power of thought begins to slip, no matter what advances have occurred in the medical field.
This is just another "free" advertisement by MSNBC for big pharma. Healthy natural lifestyles will take care of most chronic health conditions. Americans don't have a "deficiency of drugs."
The research should focus in the future on the issue of what is it about the metabolism of cyclic AMP that allows a buildup in the prefrontal cortex in the first place. They need to go beyond focusing on a drug to treat the buildup...
What was this article about again?
Makes me wonder how cyclic-AMP plays a part in Alzheimers and dementia.
Is it just me or does this sound strangely like the plot for the upcoming planet of the apes movie?
This story is pretty much the plot to the new Planet of the Apes movie, right?
Do these folks have anything that can reverse insanity in Republican House Freshmen?

Well, I've thought about it a little more.
Maybe this is a really bad idea---improving brain function in older folks.

I would be more concerned with the insanity of the senior Republicans in the House.
