When needed, always an ibuprofen person here. Tylenol has too many negative side effects, liver failure big on the list.
What's really funny is that this is only a warning issued in lieu of money vs. lawyering up; Tylenol's hoping that people will continue to consume as they have been, lawyers are warning of potential or real lawsuits so it becomes bottom line in terms of dollars when in reality............?
People are going to take however many they want, abuse, misuse, what have you............... so the whole 'in peoples interests' or whatever health angle supposedly purported by Tylenol, most people aren't dumb enough to believe it and know the reality.
While you only use ibuprofen as needed, many doctors tend to prescribe it for severe pain instead of trying to figure out what the problem is and correcting it. Ibuprofen is a leading cause of kidney failure. For those of you who are not safe like ModerationInAllThings, please be careful with the Ibuprofen!
If people would read the bottle and take what is directed then there would be no reason to reduce the dosage. So now they reduce the dosage which will not make any difference and why is that boys and girls? Because people will not read the bottle.
It's because people will take what they want, no matter what any label says, and want a free ride for their abuses and stupidity..... hence, Tylenol changing the label because of frivolous lawsuits. The reason for the change is that now Tylenol is not going to be responsible for peoples' stupidity, but never should have been.
Even if you follow the dosage suggestions on the bottle, you can still get acetaminophen poisoning or liver damage! What they don't tell you is that even if you only take the recommended (or even lower) dosage, continued use over 2 weeks increase your chances. I was in chronic pain several years back and got sick and when the GI Specialist diagnosed me with Acetaminophen poisoning I swore he was wrong. I told him that I never took the more than the 8 pills a day- and most days less. That's when he told me that it's not as much about how much as it is how long. I had been in pain for months, and had already been told not to take Ibuprofen because of my stomach issues. So glad that 7 years later Tylenol is finally getting it. Wonder how many people have gotten sick or worse yet, lost their lives because of their "safe drug"!
tylenol is very safe and effective when used as directed. It, however, is very toxic when overdosed. Ibuprofen, on the other hand, can cause problems even while using the recommended dose.
I usually recommend tylenol for people to start with since its generally safer, but a little less potent than ibuprofen
NSAIDS, like ibuprofen, can lead to serious kidney failure, and are not recommended in people with heart disease
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is toxic poison at any dosage!!! When any amount of acetaminophen mixed with beer, wine or spirits it forms an extremely toxic liver destroying compound. When acetaminophen is taken before, during or after drinking any alcohol (eg. for a hangover) it begins to slowly dissolves the liver, then a few years later you get jaundiced from lack of liver function then a couple years later you need a liver transplant.
Acetaminophen is preferred by some people to ibuprofen because it does not cause stomach upset and does not have an increased risk of internal bleeding that is found with ibuprofen. I am fortunate that I rarely have any issues with pain, and when I do, one dose of tylenol takes care of it and it doesn't come back. This is maybe a once-every-three months thing. I also don't drink alcohol, so I don't have to worry on that part. ANY drug, or ANYTHING even water or oxygen in too high of concentrations is fatal. It's just learning what that level is and following the rules.
Yea really safe. It's only the most common cause of acute liver failure, and has lead to more deaths then hepatitis a b and c.

Waste of time and money.....

I wonder how many people will only read the title and decry Tylenol for making their pain pills weaker.

You know WHY they lowered the dose don't you?
Lower dose per pill makes you take more pills.
Same amount of pills per bottle. At the same or higher price.
So you have a headache you will have to spend more money. More money spent means more money in their pocket!
Very simple. Don't let them fool you any.

If they are lowering the dosage of acetaminphen, why are they also lowering the number of pills from 8 to 6 a day? What am I missing?

Apologies. I don't know why my comment showed up three times. Maybe it was three times better than anyone else's! :-)
