I tend to agree that ANY religion should review it's "traditions" and change or perhaps reject them as not being applicable to the modern world/knowledge. Tradition can be the stumbling block of progress..but again if the traditions promote positve observances/actions, then no problem.
But there are 'forgiveness clauses' when it comes to Ramadan and the requirements of abstaining from fluids and food.(The sick, the elderly, lactating mothers, menstruating women, and those traveling to far places, are exempted from fasting.)
Remember one can pack in a lot of fluids and food before sunset and one can partake again at sunset. I doubt too many folks in areas where temperatures are high, take part in strenuous activity. (don't think any marathons are run). It is a time for comtemplation, prayer and doing good works.
Not taking in liquids in August? When will people realize that following religious traditions established a thousand years ago make little sense?
