Another misleading article about another misleading study. While 15 minutes of exercise a day won't hurt anyone, notice the article says the study showed it increased 'life expectancy' - not life itself. Until everyone in the study dies, there's no way to determine if the exercise actually caused anyone to live longer.
You're misunderstanding the study. Among those studied and tracked, at least 15 minutes a day did increase their lives--and meant a reduction also in cancer rates. Read the article again. These are aggragate numbers.
Being devil's advocate, how did THEY know overall the group was supposed to die three years earlier than they actually died? How did THEY know the group THEY picked would not have gotten cancer for sure? As I said I am being devil's advocate here. If you were to tell me the group had better heart muscles upon death great, but anything beyond that, I wonder if this is meaningful.
For the youngsters out there....With this study and all the other ones that will allow you to live longer...you better watch how you vote. The Rubio's, the Perry's, The Romney's, The Cantor's, any and all Republicans and some Democrats including Obama (lately) will take your social security and medicare away and/or make it harder to get. Be very careful how you vote and who you vote for and against. If you live longer, you will need this stuff, you can bet on it.
I might be interested if those 3 years were immediate for me to enjoy...not at the end of my life. To spend 3 extra years on rubber sheets looking at the celling...not so good.
3 glorious years of wasting away in a nursing home with pneumonia or drooling while getting constant skin and urinary infections...no thanks. I'm all for staying fit, but why is everyone obsessed with living just a little bit longer? How about you stop putting off what you have been putting off forever and live a little today? There will never be a convenient time when everything comes together for you, you pretty much have to decide it's important and do it. that is all.
Being happy is said to add 7 years to your life, so only do this exercise if it makes you happy. If you take into account showering and stretching and such, you will end up spending three years doing this exercise for 3 more years at the back end of life.
the report is resonable, i trust it and i will to do 15Minutes exercise everyday to extend my life, 3years can be added ,it sounds good, 15Minutes a day will not waste my ,on the other hand ,it is more easy than 30. why not do that?
Living an extra three years is all fine and good, but what I'm looking for is being healthy, functional, and active right up til the end. So, yeah, I DO get regular exercise (bike-commuting to and from work, is part of that). And I try to eat healthily (green smoothies for breakfast - delicious AND nutritious! Try my recipe, at naturallyradiant.info ).
Even if there ARE no guarantees, I'll do what I can to make it likely that I'll still be active when I'm 90.
If you show enough initiative to exercise 15 minutes before you know you will have been at it for 30 minutes. It's still a silly and obvious conclusion to a "study". What if I'm watching TV while working out. What happens then?
Honestly, as a busy mom of 4, wife of 1 (lol) who works more than full time hours outside the home, the best solution for us has been Visalus. Many, many success stories of people in my life. My children take these shakes, they are full of vitamins, low calorie/sugar. Just simply phenomenal. Costs less than $2 a meal. Check it out: www.justinefinlay.bodybyvi.com
I really appreciate that 15 minute exercise can add 3 year in life such a great information. Men and women are thinking healthier these days and wellness programs abound in the workplace. Some employers even buy treadmills for the wellbeing and weight loss.

Yes, 15 minutes is a great start. Proper nutrition is the second step. And since THAT is nearly impossible supplementation is vital for both to work. Get your products from Shaklee free? Check out this link and then contact me here:

Best of all-get out of the desk chair today and do that brisk walk or even ride the bicycle?
As a future Physical Education teacher I agree that taking part in exercise daily is beneficial to someone's life expectancy. If this study found that exercising 15 minutes will add to one's life expectancy think what the recommended 30 minutes could do for someone. Wen says the benefits are extremely high in the first 15 minutes but an additional 15 minutes could be just as advantageous for a person. Also by exercising we can show our youth how important and beneficial it is for a person. Obesity has become a problem with both adults and adolescents, and is up to us to change that. As adults we have to set a good example for our youth and get out there and be active. Not only is physical activity important, it can also add years onto our lives like Dr. Wen study has shown.
7 days a week , working out 15 min a day yes it a way to start thinking healthy, or you can work out 30 min a day 5 times a week and have two days off and even feel more healthier. The key is to have a healthy heart, just burning a small sandwich icecream which is 150 calories takes 22 min of bike riding so it important to know how much your consuming, the more calories consuming like greasy hamburgers it ok to eat it once in a while but not everyday, if you do eat that greasy hamburger you like you need to work out about 2 hrs just for it to burn to avoid messing up your figure, it very important to keep healthy and eating right. they are natural food with high calories intake and it not bad for you , you don't have to worry burning those calories away. Avoid really greasy food there is something called cholestrol alot of people in the world don't know about.
This is very good information. Recent studies have shown that just 15 minutes a day of resistance training can boost your metabolism for up to 72 hours. For more fitness related articles go to www.a-fit-way.org

Then you slip on the treadmill because you weren't paying enough attention, crack your skull and die on the spot.
