In my Hypnosis practice at the Queen Elizabeth Health Complex in Montreal I have helped many people let go of IBS. It has indeed been well established by long term (5 year) clinical studies for a couple of decades now that Hypnosis is successful in helping over 80% of the people who use it for relief of IBS.
Clients are so relieved to finally find a process that is natural, proven and safe that I wonder that more people are not guided to hypnosis as a solution. I want to thank Rachel Rattner for her article that may indeed help more people suffering from IBS to the very safe solution of working with a competent Consulting Hypnotist.
Of course it is not, as the article points out, only IBS that people are successfully using hypnosis for to improve their health. Stopping smoking and losing weight are two of the most well known other uses.
More information on Hypnosis for IBS and other issues can be found at www.ask-the-hypnotist.com.

I have heard that if a licensed therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist is also a hypnotherapist, they can get away with treating using hypnosis and having insurance pay.
They have OVERLOOKED a few of the side affects. . . the shooters at Virginia Tech and N.I.U. DeKalb were both these sorts of patients and many, many others including Omaha Mall shooter, Andrea Yates, Melissa Huckabee, and etc. I do not think necessary to improve surgery for breast cancer through a similar method!!!!! Hypnotists are very much QUACKS and as it says in article can't be trusted crooks! Just watch them all come out and reassure us all to what wonderful professionals they all are, of course. And when you are done reading this you can all bark like a dog or quack like a duck, but wouldn't you rather get revenge against your enemies?
I may be a first time contributor who will be in the "Green Room" for a while yet, but please contact me just the same with questions about how your loved one went in for simple surgery. . . and is today a hideous criminal??? These "Professionals" need to record all contacts with every patient for later review of what they do in this "Suggestive State." There may be success stories here, but DO NOT lose sight of the damage that has been done by these phonies, too!!!
Moviestar, I feel badly for you as you're obviously in a world of hurt and anger. I shudder to think about the toxic load that all those fears and negative emotions are having on your poor body. Cancer loves to feed on that stuff you know. It's pretty clear that you are in need of some serious psychiatric help. May you find it soon for your sake and the sake of those around you. And... I'm pretty sure that the shooters and the others you mentioned in your initial rant were want-to-be movie stars.
These guys are not even doctors, that seems like a fairly low monetary pay-off for all the whoop-de-do here! This article is sure a good candidate for speedy deletion!
I'd assume if the mind had a strong influence in forming the symptoms, then it could have a strong influence in alleviating them. Otherwise, not so much.
Please tell me where I can buy tapes for pain control. I believe in meditation and have a very painful condition and when the pain gets really bad. it affects my breating and that scares me and i would love to try this. i am homebound so can only order from my house. Thank you
I would love to help you. My wife has access to the materials that could help you, but I don't know how I could get them to you due to privacy concerns.
please check out this professor, who teaches Hypnosis at the University of Arizona Medical School. highly rated guy. it works for me. you can buy his CD's or DVD's from him or at Amazon.com good luck. yes. it works. Steven Gurgevich, Phd. Google him. www.healingwithhypnosis.com
Bob -- Somehow the fact that the guy is selling CD's and DVD's sounds suspicious. I have no problem with hypnosis, but finding one who's not a quack would take some research and more than one recommendation. Needless to say, unless a doctor believes in alternative medicine, he/she is unlikely to recommend someone. Again recommendation by several people and possibly a medical professional sounds like a prudent way to go.
The program I used for my IBS was the IBS Audio Program 100. There have been overwhelmingly good reviews from people all over the world - and it has been available to the public since 1998. The author of this program, Michael Mahoney, has received recognition for his work and dedication in the field of IBS through an invitation to Queen Elizabeth's Garden Party and other awards.
I also used his Chronic Pain program -specifically the Light Count session - for my chronic abdominal adhesion pain (not IBS.)
You can find more information by calling 877-898-2539 or visiting www.healthyaudio.com. These protocols have been researched within the clinical setting and are very safe and easy to use. They are also very cost effective as the entire programs are LESS than one session of in-person therapy, and come with support if needed.
Hypnosis is nothing more than the ability to focus attention. The hypnotist assists with this but it's all up to the subject. A profecient subject can can raise a red spot on his hand if told he's holding a hot penny.
I think we may have some scientologists/religionists here who have a real need to bad-mouth this procedure but it does work. Incidentally many doctors are not physicians and few physicians know anything about hypnosis. The stigma of the stage hypnotist is still there.
Interesting article. I believe whole heartedly in the power of the mind to heal the body, something I learned as a Shiatsu practitioner and in practicing Chi Gong as well. As good as hypnosis and maybe even better, people who need to address physical as well as emotional ailments should check out tongrenstation.com. and watch their on-line classes, it's free and the technique has an amazing success rate. In fact, Dana Farber Cancer Institute sends some of their patients to this healing class with amazing results.
My wife is a consultant at a hypnosis center and makes over 9k per month working only 34 hours per week. It is a very professional office and is always full. It really works for those who undergo treatment for various bad habits or ailments based on their testimonials. Hypnosis is pretty much the last resort after drugs and fads don't work.
I practice this since 30 years and I can tell you first hand that it works.
(I don't know the new methods of learning with the tools, I only know the old method. It takes several weeks to learn, but it's well worth it. I would not want to miss it in my life).
Bu the way, I practice it hanging upside down on gravity boots, it adds to the relaxation of the spine and disks.
Interesting article. I believe whole heartedly in the ability of the mind to heal the body from my years as a shiatsu practitioner as well as practicing chi gong (for the uninitiated chi gong is a way to move energy around your body for healing purposed). Maybe better than hypnosis or at least on par with it is a technique called tongren healing. If anyone is interested they should check out tongrenstation.com. They allow you to view live classes, they do distance healing, and it's free. Some people make donations. Dana Farber Cancer Institute refers patients to them because of their very high success rate. Check it out!
Hypnosis is EXTREMLY helpful in so many areas! When searching for a Hypnotist...look for someone who is dedicated to Hypnosis. It is not necessarily important that they be an MD or PhD, or anything else for that matter, for these folks don't always spend the necessary amount of time and attention it takes to become a GOOD Hypnotist. Hypnosis is also "Mindful Meditation" and "Guided Imagery", and you can learn to do these for yourself. It's pretty exciting stuff!
I saw a guy get hypnotized to believe he was drunk and he seemed to really be drunk. He ever said that he felt drunk. I've wondered ever since then if there would be some way to let people feel drunk or high without the booze or drugs. Would put an end to AA and the drug trade overnight!
To mess with hypnosis is to mess with the occult plain and simple no matter how the wrapping looks on the outside. Sooner or later the ill effects are going to show up on this lady. There's a very good book out there I've read that I think sums it up. It's called, The Deceit of Lucifer. The cover of the book is a picture of an apple with a bite out of the apple and a black background. All I can say is I've been helped by this book. The book covers other subjects as well along these lines.
Prayer is a form of an "altered state," much like hypnosis or meditation. Can't see how that is "occult" (which simply means "hidden"). Having been a hypnotherapist for over 20 years and helped lots of different people with lots of different issues (including cancer), I wholeheartedly attest to its safety and viability.
As a hypnotist I can assure you that it has NOTHING to do with the occult. All hypnosis is SELF hypnosis. A professional hypnotist teaches you how to use the power of YOUR mind. The body follows what your mind tells your brain to do. If you have cried at a movie or passed your turn while driving a car because you were thinking about something else- You HAVE been hypnotized! Your subconscious mind controls all your automatic responses like breathing and swallowing. You don't NEED to think about doing those but you can CHOOSE to and there by breath faster or slower, choose to stare or blink. It's not magic. Hypnosis is focused attention that is actually close to meditation or even prayer.
This is a public relations white-wash about a technique with potential risks. Hypnosis is not risk free. Hypnosis is not simply "enhanced relaxation." Hypnosis separates the connection between conscious and unconscious, somewhat like a temporary lobotomy. During hypnosis, suggestions can be put into the subconscious while bypassing conscious executive control. The awake conscious normally works to filter what goes into the mind to avoid conflicts and maintain internal consistency. The conscious protects the mind. Hypnosis should not be used until a psychological background check is done first to verify it will not cause harm. Improperly done hypnosis can result in painful mental side effects such as anxiety, persistent shame, loss of interest in activities, and even clinical depression. Therapists have difficulty understanding and helping hypnosis victims because therapists depend on the patient reporting conscious memories of bad experiences that affected their life. Hypnosis is by nature is amnesiac (without conscious memory), and the patient may not remember what they were told under hypnosis. However the effect goes on anyway because it is in subconscious.
To suggest to a person under hypnosis a directive for which the subconscious in reality has no control, will result in a deep shame experience when the person fails to carry out the subconscious suggestion. It is absolutely vital to determine with certainty that the person will have mental control over the physical symptom they are experiencing.
Using hypnosis to remove pain symptoms without proper medical evaluation can be tragic. For example, eliminating headaches in a person with an undiagnosed brain tumor will delay treatment.
Hypnosis is an invasive technique in which the person's normal conscious state is constrained, and things can easily be done to the person's mind outside of conscious control. Hypnosis can be used to assault someone. Hypnosis should never, ever under any circumstances be used without the full conscious consent of the person.
If one can grasp the concept of "mind over matter", or if you can accept the holistic approach in medicine, where it's believed that the mind, the body, the subconscious and the individual's sense of spirituality can all work together in bringing about significant relief if not a complete cure, then it would only make sense that you can then go a step further, and understand how hypnosis can become an integral part of treatment in many situations. It's encouraging to see that the long-standing stigma and the "hocus-pocus" reputation attached to hypnosis is gradually fading and leading to increased acceptance in the medical community. What a waste of a valuable resource it would be to completely dismiss hypnosis and its benefits. It's my opinion that hypnosis certainly merits further research as a medical tool and resource.
i have been using hypnosis for weight loss, since 5/25/11 i have lost 43 lbs. i love it, so glad i started using it!!

Nice article but missed a connection. Some Drs may believe in it and some patients
but not the insurance industry. Far as I can tell Inurance does not cover this treatment.
Insurance companies will not pay for any medical treatment - that they can slink their way out of.
Unnecessarily, many patients have died because the insurance conglomerates have refused to pay for legitimate and proven medical treatments.
Insurance companies are for profit entities.
Oftentimes, these "lets save every dollar" companies - do not care about the patient.
The only thing that matters to them is money.
I have heard that if a licensed therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist is also a hypnotherapist, they can get away with treating using hypnosis and having insurance pay.

Your ignorance is astounding. You have no basis or evidence to back up your foolish claims. If you did you would have shown some.

A Doctor does not necessarily make a good Hypnotist. As a good Hypnotist does not necessarly make a good Doctor.
There are pros and cons; the cons are psychologically "drug" people, and then chemically "drug" people, and then it may follow the criminal acts...
It depends upon on who are using it and to whom are hypnotized and for what the reason the person needs it.
Isn't it like meditation? Physco/symatic?(sic) Mind over body? If you believe, it will happen?
I'd assume if the mind had a strong influence in forming the symptoms, then it could have a strong influence in alleviating them. Otherwise, not so much.
somewhat like the law of attraction. It works, but you have to be accepting of it.
