You think the market is doing a good job of controlling health care?
Economic Darwinism wouldn't go so far as to embrace the idea that medical supplies tainted with bacteria be dispensed in a hospital. Free markets demand informed consumers and the ability to negotiate at arms length. The Efficient Market Hypothesis - strong, semi-strong, and weak - should be enough to help you see your way to the flaw in your thinking.
With the right lab and equipment any consumer can be self-regulating. Tainted wipes? Test them yourself before using them...while reminding yourself that government is the problem.
Yes, everybody needs a lab, and thousands of dollars of testing equipment. I'm sure that you know that, while you are allowed to own a gun, that does not extend to lab equipment, because of illegal drug makers. So, you can't do it yourself. We depend on the government to punish those evil manufacturers of pain medicine needed after surgery (underprescribed), and the doctors who give it out like candy to their rich clients (like Michael Jackson), and we also depend on the government to test all products (they don't). And the same people who are against the public having the medicines are also against government regulations of drug companies.
RanRan, not only is that absurdly implausible for a patient who is awake it is absolutely impossible for someone under general anesthesia. Have you ever undergone major surgery?
This is where China is better than us, they just take the company officials out back, in the alley, and shot them all dead. That pretty much solves the problem.
For this we see double digit price increases every year for health care? This gives new me new resolve as I put off visits to the family physician. How many people in a hospital have any control over the source supplies used to treat them? Some measure of legal oversight is a small price to pay for preventing problems such as this one.
While I agree about the horrors of this company, don't put off visits to your doctor. Even with visits to your doctor, sometimes things aren't found, which happened to my husband. You really don't want cancer, which can cost you an arm and a leg, and a colon, and a lung,...
Elazabeth. I shouldn't write when I'm tired. I too have undergone treatment for cancer. Early detection and effective treatment have me 8 years cancer free.
During my adult life I have been a patient in a hospital three times. Almost 20 years seperate the first from the last experience. The available tecnology improves, prices rise incredibly, and the cleanliness that marked my first visit degraded terribly by the time of my last. (I had a very large incision so my concern over floor cleaning with a dust mop that sent large amounts of dirt into the air was justified) Private companies are cutting payroll to such a low level that they are foregoing savings. They lack the people to review and implement improvements. It sounds as though the health care field is suffering the same problem.
Wow a totally unfounded statement, with no support then you ... ringed with a name calling insult... Ok Job!
that is why they want to eviscerate regulation.
Generalize with Zero support often?
It looks like the Progressives have lost any chance to win an argument with facts its now just made up name calling and baseless statements... Pity....
Reading the Article would help.... Anyone injured by these companies are open to sue...The Federal Government has forced them to recall all products and STOP OPERATIONS AND SALES....
Good job though with that made up name... You might get others to use it, its catchy!!!!
This just gets better and better! This company is owned by heavy financial supporters of Wisconsin Gov. Walker and other right wing Republicans. You will remember that the right wing Republicans want to cut funding and do away with the nasty FDA. They say it interferer's with a company's ability to conduct it's operations. Well...here is a perfect example of what a company will do when regulations are not followed. I do hope that those injured will sue the pants off the company and it's owners.
This just gets better and better! This company is owned by heavy financial supporters of Wisconsin Gov. Walker and other right wing Republicans.
How about Proof of who "owned " this company...Who is it or are they and who did they donated to, and how much?
I am not saying your wrong ...just prove that this or these "owners" only give to REPUBLICANS.... So ...Who are they and how much and to whom did they give? And in fact that they gave to and how much to Walker as you clearly STATE! ....
You made a Statement of FACT, so its your obligation to PROVE it by sources... I'll wait.....
Government regulations protect you too, Jim. That isn't political.
What is political is when one political party wants to take away the regulations that protect Americans from this kind of negligent and violent crime. Next they will allow people to kill cops just for fun.
No Elizabeth its when on political party thinks that Regulations can fix everything....
Your doing what so many do ...Its all or nothing !!!!!
They are times for regulations and times when regulations are not useful but so restrictive that they are counter productive....
Conservatives are not against ALL regulations just those that are over burdensome that restrict and give the government more power and control than it is entitled to have of the citizens of this country...
Next they will allow people to kill cops just for fun.
When one uses wipe, one should use a piece of wet cloth to cleanse the alcoholic based wetness. Then pat dry; and apply a skin barrier cream if necessary. For instance, if one uses hand gel, one should follow with hand washing. Hand gel is another convenience approach.
No, the hand gel is supposed to kill the germs, or why bother? The wipes are supposed to take away germs, not introduce them.
Do you know how many steps of sterilization are done for a R.N. to access a port? Wipes and swabs that are sealed inside of special sterile plastic are used. The R.N. puts on a face mask before beginning, and drapes a sterile plastic around the spot of skin that will be sterilized. And then uses those "sterile" swabs. They better be sterile, because a port access goes straight to the major vein above the heart.
Also, although some bacteria are not killed by alcohol, allowing the alcohol to dry on its own kills the most bacteria. Unless the wet wipe you refer to is a sterile wipe wet with sterile water, more bacteria are being introduced, after the alcohol has been prevented from killing the bacteria already there.
Yet one more example of America's decline into "whatever is necessary for the god almighty dollar". I'm sure as hell not a LeftWing but this has RightWing written all over it. Americans sleep and corporate/congress-suck-ups work overtime. Sad, indeed.
Brought to the American people courtesy of the GOP, which over the years has relentlessly stripped many federal agencies of their enforcement staffs and watered down their level of oversight and authority to where they cannot protect consumers.

PROOF? I am so tired of Progressives just writing @!$%# and never having to back it up.....
I can demonstrate that Bush left office with just a few more people working at the FDA then when he came in ....
How about you demonstrate and source sour statement?
Try something different ....hold yourself responsible for your own words.. Prove what you say!!!!
The FDA Commissioner was appointed by Obama. Get your facts straight people, Obama runs the government. He should fire the FDA commissioner HE appointed.
I feel bad for the health professionals who unknowingly used these products on patients with the assumption that they were manufactured safely. We need more regulation not less when it comes to public health. We need a non profit healthcare system like every other advanced western nation
The best way to put this into perspective is to understand that the Congress, President, and Supreme Court have been very effective over the past few decades in removing nearly all the enforcement authority and power of the FDA to the nearly absurd level of Deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts) on "The Andy Griffith Show", where Sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith) only allowed Deputy Fife to have one bullet for his service revolver . . .
So, when the FDA actually is able to cause U. S. Marshals to seize contaminated products and to take other actions that effectively shut-down a medical supplier, the real situation is considerably worse than most folks imagine . . .
Explained another way, the FDA only has strong enforcement authority and power in the most extreme and egregious cases, and the fact that the FDA continues to take Draconian measures in this case is a huge clue that the manufacturer is a clear and present danger to the health and well-being of the American people . . .
In baseball the rule is "three strikes and you are out", but for dangerous and defective medical supplies, prescription drugs, and medical devices, the fact of the matter is that the FDA has no option but to continue to pitch increasingly faster strikes until the batter relents . . .
And in this instance, the FDA is doing exactly what it is supposed to do, for sure . . .
We don't need the government in our lives !! Can you imagine what will happen if Perry or Ron Paul get ahold of it? We will be living in a world like the 1900's.
hmmm the 1900's...when people had morals, ethics, concern for others, not just their f**king paychecks and obedience to their masters least the lose that poverty pay level job...
Morons and idiots like this are why companies get away with murder.
Well chalk up the deaths as collateral damage for a corporations misdeeds. They have the right to make a profit as they see fit. In a few months the CEO will be given a million stock options for a job well done. The Feds will look the other way...as the wipes churn out again ... life goes on.
This is where China is better than us, they just take the company officials out back, in the alley, and shot them all dead. That pretty much solves the problem.
Elizabeth and Allen are Wisconsin teachers that have to pay a little for their insurance and pension plans. Walker was not even in office when the young boy had surgery last fall and passed away in December. You both have nothing intelligent to say - but most likely have tenure and cannot be fired for inadequate teaching methods. The fact of the matter is the company did not perform adequate testing - they should be held responsible and if FDA did inspect them and they passed - the inspecting team should also be held responsible - NOT TEA PARTY or WALKER. I work for a competitor of this company and can tell you we are FDA suprise inspected regularly (not notified). It is the companys responsibility to follow cGMP's - not elected officials.
I have progressive Ms and have been receiving I.V. Steroids since 11/09 and have been cathing since 2001. Those triad packages are familiar looking I see them/saw them every month at my hospital when I had a treatment. The iodine solution has the same lot no#s that the FDA(goverment employees) have included in their recall. I have been seeing 3 different Drs. for lesions that have been multiplying over my entire body for the last 8 months, but no one knows what it coud be. I finally brought an article into my GP and said test me for this 2 diseases or I'll sue you.
It appears everybody covats and I who am just trying to stay alive from a disease I didn't want, to live long enough to see my children grown, I have fevers and high white counts and I hurt and I will probablybecome so sick because everybody wants to have theirs. goverment employees need theirs, the shareholdersneed theirs, the Drs need theirs,I don't need mine(life)
Instead of sitting on your computers blogging about this get off your ass's and do something. Thats right, they took your toys from the sandbox and you have ????
It is time for the barcodes on the cell phones, my interview in the Milwaukee Journal here...

That's right, the free market will sort all of this out!
You think the market is doing a good job of controlling health care?

Harbinger. It's been a long week. I missed the quote marks. Please accept my apology.

Every American should have their own lab, test track, lots of little white mice, a weather station and a cowboy hat.
This is where China is better than us, they just take the company officials out back, in the alley, and shot them all dead. That pretty much solves the problem.

Sue? The company has committed criminally negligent homicide. Not just that woman in Alabama, but others have died too, and the bacteria was found.
Murder 1.
Companies are now people. The company should be given the death penalty.
