I dropped a ton of weight eating dark chocolate three times a day. First thing, 2 oz dark chocolate and coffee. Before lunch... 2 oz dark chocolate. Before dinner... 2 oz dark chocolate. I would melt them in muffin wrappers and sometimes reduce a little of the chocolate and put in a few nuts to mix things up... almonds, cashews, raisins, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds.
Put in the oven and melt on low. Cool. Put in a zipper bag in the fridge. Makes 60 if you buy enough chocolate... :o)
I am male, 48, and went from 225 lbs. to 176 lbs. I was doing the MUFA diet, which requires you to eat something with mono unsaturated fatty acids every meal. I also ate avocados (instead) sometimes, and straight up nuts (2 oz!)... sometimes, but the chocolate was key as I seemed to never forget to "take my medicine".
I still like chocolate. I have been off the "diet" for over a year and still clock 176... guess I found my set weight. I still eat sugar. I don't however CRAVE it. Life is good.
I'd be happy to volunteer for a study on the health benefits of eating 2 oz dark chocolate daily, especially if it is very good dark chocolate. Any sacrifice in the name of science.
Most press reports on these kinds of studies, including the one mentioned here, don't get to the conclusion quickly enough: moderate (read "small") amounts of "dark" chocolate, can be part of a healthy lifestyle, which must also include a well balanced diet and regular exercise.
