The Medical Profession has found other avenues to make MORE money than antibiotics! There are better revenue streams available, in the last few years, such as Autism, so the profits are better. However, the overall care is still the same, shameful! The CDC, and the rest of the governmental establishments, do not have a clue on overall health and well being of the population. They keep telling the same stories, year in and year out, so everyone thinks they are doing a great job! What a joke!
eric, I'll drop some bread crumbs so you can keep up. Prescribing other drugs for other conditions, such as for Autism, carries a bigger payback to the doctor from the pharma companies. Antibiotics have been around for years and years, so the profit margin is not as big as newer drugs have. It is not worth the time for Dr. X to write out a prescription for an antibiotic for little Johnny, even though little Johnny is just as sick as when his big brother went to the same doctor for the same condition ten years ago, Dr. X just is not going to waste his time. This happens everyday and is how Dr. X makes more per hour without seeing more patients. The CDC, NIH, FDA, etc all get huge benefits from the pharma companies so they allow this to take place. Some individuals work for the government agencies, then go to work for the big pharma companies and visa-versa. If you look at the data, that is accumulated, on the cost per person for a disease/condition you quickly see where the money is and the trends in prescription writing. Curing a disease/condition is not where the money is. Money is made in diagnosis and treatments. I hope that this helps!

A: The practice of doctors getting kick-backs for prescribing drugs was banned in the US several years back.
B: There are no drugs that treat or cure Autism.
C: It doesn't take any more time for a doctor to write a prescription than it does to tell the patient that he or she is not going to write a prescription.
D: The psychiatrists and therapists that diagnose and treat autistic children aren't the same kind of doctors that see sick patients and would write antibiotic prescriptions.
E: Next time try to have a clue about the subject you're trying to pretend to be an expert in.
Doctors are no longer capitulating to the demands of mothers for the antibiotics.
I can't count the times I've told mothers myself that antibiotics don't work on viral infections and colds who've told me I'm wrong. They don't want to believe it.
And it's the insurance companies that decide what diagnoses and treatment they'll pay for, not pharma. The problems with doctors and pharma is that doctors naively believe pharma about their medications while ignoring patient complaints about side affects.
It's the psychiatrist's that allow pharma to decide what medications should be used.

With all due respect, I don't believe it either because every time I get an ear infection or sinus infection they prescribe antibiotics which cures the problem even though their chart on the wall says those are both viral and that antibiotics won't help. Someone can tell you something until they are blue in the face, but if it contradicts your personal experiences, you're not going to believe them.
Zip, an infection is the result of overgrowth/introduction of bacteria that cause disease. Sinus and ear INFECTIONS are treated with antibiotics and these are bacterial in cause. Sinusitis, rhinitis, colds are viral in origin and do not respond to antibiotics. But if you get a secondary infection from these virus, which is not uncommon, then you will need the antibiotics.
Mimi, that makes sense and I believe that, but the poster in my doctor's office clearly states otherwise, which makes it difficult for me to put my trust in the doctor. Hence my willingness to second-guess doctors. They are just humans after all, and humans are not infallible.
Less parents are demanding them.

that makes no sense. A patient visit is a patient visit--you don't get more money for prescribing antibiotics vs not prescribing them
