It is possible to test false positive for HIV. It could be that he was exposed to the virus but he doesn't have it. He could have slept with someone who's positive, but he didn't get infected. I use to work at a facility for HIV-positive people who needed temporary housing. One of our clients was a woman who slept with and had a baby with an HIV positive man. She was negative and so was the baby.
