This article must be a right wing conspiracy. Every liberal knows that men can't be any good at anything.
Or maybe it's a left wing conspiracy showing that men are NOT made by god to be head of the family.
Or maybe it's an indication that men can be as good a parent as women, and that perhaps their presence in the lives of their children is just as necessary and healthy as that of the woman. That would be a novel idea in America where we ALL seem to be doing everything we can to marginalize fathers influence only to money and eliminate them from their families.
Since the doctor tells your wife no sex for 6 weeks after giving birth men might as well have lower testosterone. We can't getting any so why make matters worse by being turned on?
You have a good point. Sex causes an increase in testosterone being secreted. I know for me, personally, my sex life fell off a cliff for years after our kids were born due to medical reasons, a kid in our bed, being tired, etc.
Even though I don't listen to rock,I do get your rhythm and its along the lines that this new generation of men somewhere along the line dropped their footBALLS!!! for a pair of golfBALLS!!! or POMPOMS!!!! if you get my drift!!!
Lifting weights, working out and eating red meat increases T. I do it and now I kick my 2 year old son out of the computer room when I play 1st person shooter games.
the conduct of the study and the data may be tight but the interpretation is far from good science. Come on now, you great scientists... think... and think again. there may be many reasons for the drop in the testosterone... A very reasonable explanation could be that nature is giving mother of the newborns a break... How's that? How can one jump so quickly from lowing testosterone to child nurturing. When a baby is born, the mother and child is at its most vulnerable stage. Someone must be looking out for the family instead of just looking after the baby. Who is gathering food? Unlike grass eating animals, human has to gather food... Too many scientists nowadays start out their studies having a conclusion in their heads... bad science... It is good to be train to design experiments with a good hypothesis and defined questions, but having a conclusion before the study is done is wrong. This is a prime example of such bad practice...
It's that trip to the delivery room and watching a C-Section that does it. Who wants to do that again? Even then they had my son's neck stretched out so much I thought my wife was giving birth to a giraffe. Geeeez.
Rick, I don't think I've laughed so hard in months! However I agree with you. After a child is born, for months on end, who has the enery or desire for sex?
From my experience with myself, I agree 100% (less sex drive, more peaceful, higher voice, bigger breasts). But the first line about men losing an excuse could be debated; the "excuse" men have is that too much childcare will make them less manly. For better or worse ...
Interesting when at the same time reading about male fish in the rivers laying eggs due to the contraceptives. Since contraceptives are not breaking in water they get back to our drinking water and that is what happens? I find it very disturbing...
So, what the article is saying, is that if we want to keep our testosterone levels where they have always been (and should be), we need to be promiscuous and condom wise.
It seems like a small price to pay for maintaining our masculinity.
I personally believe that the real reason behind the testosterone drop is really mothers-in-law.
I'm intrigued by the drop in T after sniffing one's one child versus a strange child. Does this apply only to one's biological child, or does it also apply to the child of a different man but raised by the sniffer as his own, or to adopted children? If it applies to non-biological children that are accepted/recognized by smell as one's own, how long does it take for that recognition to be established? I'm asking these questions as it seems that stepfathers are more likely to act with violence toward their step-children, and I'm curious if this could be at least partially explained by this phenomenon.
There's another factor....simple exhaustion. Having a baby in the house is not conducive to doing ANYTHING but 24/7 infant care for at least the first six months.
May I ask - why the nude Duh-n-baybee pic? Are they trying to make a drop in testosterone "sexy" now?
Good luck.
ROFL at some of the comments here - it's settled! Men without kids (especially men who have no intention of having kids) have more testosterone, which is a good thing!
I'm sick of all the anti-male bashing, testosterone-bashing, etc. Who else is? (P.S., I am female!)
Most likely comes from being emasculated in grade school.
Nope. The drop in testosterone levels in new fathers has another name: Buyer's Remorse.

It's because they're all listening to pussy boy bands like coldplay and the killers. Testosterone suckers. They all need to tap into some hard rock.

Maybe that is the causal element.
Low testosterone makes men cranky, depressed and unmotivated -- that's hardly good for marriages!
More info in the interview here:
Maybe that's my problem. That switch never happens. (Awkward laugh)
Another great reason to shun monogamy.
From what I've seen of male nurses, caregiving doesn't just lower testosterone. It appears to reise estrogen.

yes, you will be less active with your sexual partner when you are nurturing your baby, so it must be true

What happened to the comment I posted, one from a real scientist?

I see the knuckle-draggers are out in force.

Moral of the story, don't have kids, you'll be richer, and have more sex.
we agree!
