Social networking is a misnomer. It should be called Unsocial networking. Plain everyday e-mail provides a healthier form of online communication without leaving one open to malicious intent of known or unknown parties. At least it provides some accountability for what people say and do on line. If you don't like what you are reading, Block It!
Well, being as society in general seems to have deteriorated in terms of manners & consideration for others, perhaps this phenomenon shouldn't be a big surprise. Which would suggest that civility & kindness are virtues that need to be taught, & they would need to be taught at home.
Negative thoughts and emotions which you deny, are destructive things you have refused to do. Overcome yourself or behavior becomes habit only impairing, limiting you. True self worth is found in the priceless attributes of one's character, compassion, honor, integrity, humility, contentment. Love never disappoints. Unhappy people do. At times the hardest thing is to give love to the same place your hurt is coming from. To forgive without lingering resentment.
Anyone remember the kids who would write "mean" notes to other kids. The kid getting the note would open it - read it - and assume the role of the severely wronged - crying and moaning how wronged he/she was?
Now the Internet has taken the place of those notes - only - it is worse than the paper notes. Teens and adults need to be held responsible for what they put online. Writing about or posting pictures of kids/teens without permission should be punishable - even for kids.
And - the judicial system should break with the past - hold Parents responsible for the behavior of their children. Most bullies in schools and online have parents who actually encourage their child's behavior.
