I have several neighbors who are British and over 60, and judging from the sights and sounds that emanate from their pool and gardens during the summertime, I would have to say that the "Over 60 and British = SEXY" comment is absolutely correct.
Maybe retiring from Britian and moving to the the south of France had something to do with it.
Some people just believe that some things should be private.

It was almost certainly cancelled because of a lack of interest in what was basically a public service announcement that required cumbersome registration verification.
I wouldn't fill out forms to have my age and residency checked either so that I could be lectured on safe sex for a couple hours.

key2joy...The NHS will shovel many drugs at people to avoid diagnosing with expensive tests. They might not give you viagra but probably would an antidepressant or pain killers so that you just didn't care.

Actually Jim I have a t-shirt proclaiming "I survived the NHS". I am not kidding the physician I was assigned to actually prescribed antidepressants and pain killers for a disk issue in my back. He said I was depressed because of the life change with the move and in case I had pain he would give me something for that as well.
When we came back home I was able to get a proper exam and a ct scan which indicated which indicated two disc's bulging one on a nerve. It was really very painful. Went through some traction and it fixed the problem within three weeks.
While in England we kept the kids on our private health insurance using their private care providers and they received exceptional care.
How did the reporter get this headline from this article? I would say seniors are more informed about safe sex than the folks 50 and under that play musical beds. Maybe they just didn't think the lecture was necessary.
Sometimes the people who choose not to go are the ones that need it the most........also, why not open it up to anyone without residency? Isn't the purpose to educate and inform; I'm sure sex with others isn't limited to just their community. But, why be logical.
This is probably why it was actually cancelled. It doesn't sound like a really exciting way to spend your afternoon in the first place, but then they went and created registration and verification barriers to even attend.
I'm surprised *anybody* signed up at all.
It's like trying to get teenagers to voluntarily attend a "dangers of drug abuse" seminar but requiring them to fill out forms and pee in a cup in order to get in.
Because it is a council expense not a program being sponsored by the UK.

i am nowhere near 60 but everyday i make sure to have good sex because i know one day in my 40s it will all end and i will have to pop viagra just to be normal. old age sucks and you young folks ought to take advantage of youth and abuse your body as much as possible. use abuse and enjoy. old age is basically equal to death. a broken down body is not fun folks. i live with old people. not good let me tell you. they stink and are constantly on a bunch of pills daily. never even mind the thinning or lack of hair and the sagging skin all over, not just the face. well enough of my rant. just use what you have because nothing lasts in life.
you are mistaken if you think a good sex life ends in your 40's....for most that is the prime of life...by no means is 40's 50's or even 60's old. Just wait till you are there, you will have a different outlook on what you consider old!

I can see the pitfalls of a workshop like this for single elders.
Men would go because they are looking for a one night stand (men are horny at any age). Women might be persuaded to go if it was women only being given valuable advice about how to protect themselves from STDs and such. Who wants to get a reputation around town if you are seen entering this workshop?
Its a pity in a way because seniors do need this kind of advice as never before.
