Listeria in humans is rare, it's usually an outbreak in ruminants, like cattle and sheep because they forage and the plants that they urinate and defecate on. This outbreak of Listeria is the result of poor sanitation. That includes how YOU, the individual consumer, handle food. The bacteria was not IN the cantaloup, it was ON the skin of the cantaloup. My question is: what farming practices in Colorado led to this outbreak of Listeria?

There is a street in my area named "Listeria Street". I drove by it this week, haven't noticed it in years, but the street sign caught my eye because this has been in the news. Wonder why they chose that name? Wonder if the residents roll their eyes whenever this bacteria is in the news?
