Please MSN, sharpen up your editing: Title says "Docs Charged for Removing..." - Well, what do you expect, doctors charge for anytime they even look at you. Oh, you mean they were accused of removing.....
Look at all the graverobing that has gone on in the US . Body parts sold from cancer victems made thousands of transplant and bone graft recipeints get loads of testing.
This is one of the reasons I am not an organ doner.......I've often thought that if you're sick, they may decide to take your organs before you die, or they may cause your death so they can take your organs.
Organ doners have helped so many people, and I'm glad there is such a thing. But, with my various health problems, my organs would not be the best choice.
My question is that the article says this person was alive? How alive? There are different levels. A body might be alive, but the person is brain dead. Could they make a full recovery if they kept their organs? Need more information for this.
It does not matter what their condition was, these doctors broke one of the most important parts of the Hippocratic Oath....First do no harm. These doctors did hasten the deaths of those patients whose organs they stole before the donors had died naturally. Also the reason I will never donate my organs to anyone other than immediate family.
Actually is does matter because there are different definitions of dead. Someone who is brain dead, but still technically alive can donate organs. There is nothing illegal about that. So what condition they are in is very important!
If you just read the headline there are plenty of docs who remove organs when people are still alive. I've had my Appendix and Gallbladder removed and I'm still breathing.
Gee, I hope you never need a transplant. You are the reason some people argue that those who are willing to be donors go to the front of the list if they need a transplant.
@9.1 What about those of us who would never accept an organ transplant? I personally do not believe in them, so have no problems with not receiving one.
I hate incomplete reporting! Surely the reporter or editor asked why did this take so long to come out, what circumstances led up to the investigation, who reported this to hospital admin or police, are their allegations of black marketing organs, etc. etc. etc.!
Or is the problem that someone at msnbc was just looking for a little 'blurb' to fill some space and therefore just pulled out a few bits of the original AP article to include here?
I used to sign up as an donor until I worked at a transplant center. You know how the thing most arsonists have in common is that they are firefighters. They do this so they can be the hero on the scene, well the people that get the body parts are the hero's at transplant centers, and the hospital might get stuck with a vegetable they have to treat for the rest of his life if they make the right choice.

Wow! I've always been afraid something like this would happen somewhere. Sounds like a Michael Creighton novel -- but there is big bucks in organs.
It's called capitalism - they were simply exploiting resources that nature provided.

Monty Python did a great skit about that in Meaning of Life.

Shhh! --Don't give our Health Care Mafia any ideas!!!
And you thought that this story was only an urban myth. Remember this on your next vacation to Brazil or Mexico. Or India.
....or Texas, since it seems to have been taken over by the Zeta cartel

Need to work on better headlines.
This took place almost 25 years ago and they're just starting to go to trial now???
Glad I am not the only one noticing that.
This is why I would never give organs...ever...and this is hardly the first case of something like this.

25 years? Guess it took a while to dig up some witnesses.
It just goes to show you. No matter what field a person is in, or whatever a person does for a living, there are corrupt people in this world.
Take our government for example.....

Doesn't get more purely sensational than this. What's next "Pearl Harbor Bombed"?
