I liked this article, but I disagree with trying to get children to conform to social standards in order for them to fit in. It's like early training to be a sheep and go with the crowd. Being different should not be something to be "corrected."
Another thing the article failed to address was bullying. As anyone who wasn't popular in school knows, children can be downright vicious to other children. Since anxiety disorders can be caused or made worse by repeated negative experiences, a shy child should be watched closely to determine if he or she is avoiding a bully.
