This is the same type of thing that happened during the alcohol prohibition of the 1930's.

People would mix up all types of strange alcoholic concoctions and sell them.

My grandparents told me that sometimes there would be entire families of 16 people found dead after buying and drinking these alcoholic concoctions.

They also told me that repealing the prohibition was the best thing that ever happened.

Maybe we should consider that today as well.

For any one article you give me I will show you a thousand articles of people committing crimes or getting alcohol poisoning while drunk. But it's ok that alcohol and tobacco are still legal because you use one or both of them right?

John you're right. How is repealing a new ban on a chemical going to help those that have inadvertently used the salts without knowledge of their effects on the human body. Possibly if these people had known the salts would cause them harm they might have avoided their use. The ban will also keep those that know the effects of the salts from abusing them.

I believe that's why reported that the ban is for a year. They want to study the possibly problems the salts may cause and whether the ban will be permanent. Based on hospital reports there could be a serious problem.

The government is establishing rules for engine oil. It has been reported young people drinking engine oil to get high. The FDA is requiring labels telling people not to drink the engine oil. The TSA has correctly noted that most young Americans cannot read, and therefore engine oil should be sold only with after a permitted inspection.

Thank God the government is there to help us be safe from people who have been drinking engine oil and get in car wrecks

It wouldn't be a bad idea to make all drugs legal providing the government wouldn't write the monthly checks to give to the drug addicted people when they can't afford food, housing, etc.

If anyone wants the freedom to use any or all drugs legally they should also have the freedom to suffer the consequences.

These drugs "bath salts" (these aren't the things that you actually put in a bath!) aren't your ordinary drug, these things are scary. I live in a place that's been tormented by these things. People go absolutely psychotic due to these things, like running down the street naked with an assault weapon because they think people are after them. When police are called this is a 2-4 person call. In the ER powerful tranquilizers are needed to sedate them. But, this is n't something that is just a hangover in the morning, some people have to go a therapeutic doses for anti-psychotics for periods of time after. This is a bad drug...and this isn't just kids, the average user is in their 30's. And this isn't a drug where just some people "have a bad trip", almost everyone that uses it has a bad trip!

Educate your children around this drug! Peopel have killed, been killed, and killed themselves due to the effects of this.

Perhaps if they can use a much safer drug, such as pot, they won't turn to dangerous ones like this... that's just one way that lifting prohibition might help.... scratch might... definately would help.

To be fair, anybody that actually owns an assault rifle is halfway to being paranoid schizo enough to do that.

Does anyone in creation realize that anything that abuses the brain cells is death on wheels? They don't mind? They want the seconds-long kick? Have any of them learned what the best "kicks" in life are......???

The kicks we get when we do something positive using our own healthy brain cells ... accomplish something perhaps tough, but... trying ... on our own! that trying we can be proud of! these are the true highs. Why have so few of us learned this?

We need the one thing, the only thing... that is capable of giving us the ultimate rush... which stays with us btw forever ... and that is ... being the best we can be on our own without artificial gobbledegook that fools the brain cells we have up there between our ears, and sooner rather than later, kills them off.

And, much as I respect and naturally depend on good doctors... I am coming to believe that medical help should start taking a look at the prognosis... the real prognosis of those sporting deterioration from excessive use of drugs. And weigh the benefits to the individual based on keeping any of them able to continue their self-destructive ways.... and not just themselves... any at danger from them to others.

And that goes for people in pain... and the so highly touted "pain killers."

There is a drug I can recommend because I work very hard to keep it working for me ... our brains manufacture it. It's called Endurance. And I can tell you, it works.

Just use the head you were born with... strengthen it with "exercise" i.e., using it. The results through life can be, if you learn determination, learn the techniques... so very worth going after. It's there; science supports that. Find it. Use it.

Some of the states around me have finally banned the stuff and Ohio finally did so just last week. Whether the DEA keeps its ban the states will.

The DEA is so far behind the curve on this they are about to kiss their own backside. I'm not into drugs. My personal choice. I have known of the dangers of
"bath salts" for at least 6 months. DEA is supposed to be on top of this. I guess they are too busy busting the legal pot growers in CA.

Again my personal view is if someone wants to screw themselves up let them... just so they don't then insist we fix them afterwards. That "them" includes relatives or friends wanting them fixed. Don't use the argument they are too young to know better... Poor parenting is no excuse.

It's unfortunate that the suicides from this substance are not more publicized as there have been many. Next door neighbour's son and his friend have both taken their lives.

The name of it was misleading and those that didn't truly know enough about it and most definitely parents didn't think about it with the name 'bath salts' as kids easily lied about what it was. I'm thrilled but want to see a perm ban. But, I'm not stupid in that it will go underground and probably resurface under another name. I'm just happy to know it's not on the shelf at the gas station and the little convenience stores - at least for now. We'll just have to pick up and battle on the next one when it comes back.

First... there is no real war on drugs. Look around

Second... "bath salts" are sold in convenience stores and head shops for anyone's children to buy. The mental health units all over the country have been inundated with patients. Some return to "normal" but sadly, some do not. Talking with our local unit in the hospital, he advises that it has become epidemic in some cities. This product is being manufactured in the far east and labeled "bath salts - not for human consumption." That's how they got around the DEA in the beginning. Those of you posting here who find this to be a joke obviously haven't done your research or are too brain-dead to care.

This stuff was just called Bath salts. It came in a small package that contained less then a teaspoon of powder. It wasn't enough to actually use in a tub.

Since they discovered bath salts, they don't even realize the are living in a public park.

However, I'm a very firm believer that if marijuana had been legal he'd have never even tried it.

I don't know that much about chemicals but I do know that their are plenty of idiots looking to get a Darwin award from abusing them. Banning drugs only makes people get more creative in looking for a cheap high. As for the comment earlier on post 7 about education, well they started drug education programs in the 60's and people are still taking junk so education is not the answer either.

As long as their are people looking to escape the pain of their lives or just looking for a cheap thrill people are going to look for some sort of chemical to put in their body to do it.
