Another scandal- big Pharma is a mega contributor to AHA who produced this study. This is not the first time they have produced bogus results to support their major donors. And look how once again the media picks up a totally insignificant study and propels it to the headlines. This is modern day snake oil.

Nancy Snyderman did a poor job on this report. She holds up a bottle looking for two numbers, a 3 and a 7, I believe. Said they couldn't be found around there. But doesn't explain what the numbers mean. Totally worthless report.
Snyderman, explain what the heck you are reporting about. Proof your copy. Make sure your report can be understood by everyone. At the end she holds up the bottle again. Says we should check, but doesn't say what we should be checking for.

A lot of times the company that makes the cure will look for diseases they can market. For example, they'll sponsor studies that look for a correlation between hpv and heart disease. Some studies are better than others.
8 out of 10 will get HPV in their lifetime and 90% don;t have it anymore after two years. If a woman gets HPV she has a 4% (4 out of 100) chance of getting cancer. I'd say it's a scam for the vaccine maker but 3,870 will die from this in one year.
Here's my thing: I'm skeptical of the HPV vaccine, because I think HPV has been around a long time and lately it's been painted as the root of all health problems - it just seems unrealistic. However, I want to punch people who refuse to vaccinate their children strictly on the grounds that it's giving them permission to have sex. Because if their kid is sexually assaulted, I'm sure it would be so comforting for their parents to tell them, "Well, now you get to worry about having an STD that in some cases has life-threatening complications because we didn't want you to willingly have sex with someone. Our bad."
If you have doubts about the safety of the vaccine, I can understand that. If you question the value of the vaccine itself, fine. But if it's simply a moral issue, you're an idiot who probably shouldn't have kids.

There were only SIXTY patients who actually had a heart attack or stroke. And it was SELF reported (ie, not verified)
And they want to extrapolate the answers these women gave to the HALF MILLION women who have heart attacks annually?

The company who manufactures the vaccine for HPV has been trying for the past year to make us feel like Armageddon is coming if we don't vaccinate our daughters. The truth is (according to the manufactuere) this vaccine only protects against the strain that causes cancer in less than 25% of women!!!
What was the sample population? How long was the study conducted? Was it peer reviewed? Who funded it?

I guess it is only important if you are one of the women that gets cancer from HPv. I vaccinated not only my daughter, but my son. Let's stop this at the source. Where are the girls getting it, from the boys. (at least most of them)

This comment is not exactly related to the specific topic of the article, but, I thought I would give some first hand knowledge/info, about the HPV virus.
The article states that of the 37 stains tested: It fails to mention that there are over 70 strains of the HPV virus. Also, it fails to mention that in most adult's the natural immune system keeps the virus dormant, making it udetectable in males. In females, it can be detected in PAP smears/tests.
I am a 66 year old male, and have one of the strains that encases itself completely in the protein of the skin cells, thus, protecting itself from the body's immune system. This allows the virus to take control of the skin cells, and continue to grow, and manifest as warts. Also, when the virus manifests as warts, it important for the Dr to conduct a biopsy to insure the warts are not cancerous, as many forms of skin cancers, look very similar to the HPV warts, commonly called Genital warts. There is tons of information on this subject on various Health Sites.
P.S. I sure wish a vaccine had been available 20 years ago, before I contracted the virus. I may not have had to go through the constant monthly treatments now.
This must be the reason that one of reported side effects of the vaccine is genital warts. They have been reported in girls as young as 12 who were vaccinated. :(

That's not true, Ang18. The vaccine does not contain any live virus and cannot cause an HPV infection nor warts. Perhaps these girls contracted HPV from being assaulted or from sexual activity.
One of the main doctors that worked on creating the vaccine stated in a separate report that the vaccine could act as a catalyst, actually boosting the existing HPV viruses you may have that the vaccine is supposed to "protect" you from. IF you already have the strains (which they do not test for before hand to let you know the effectiveness of the vaccine for you) then you are simply adding to your risk and could be compounding the problem. People run out to get these vaccines but do not educate themselves on the other ways you can get HPV and it is not all sexually transmitted.

Isn't this a small study to come to such a conclusion? 2500 women between 20 and 60. I am not so sure about this.
I am all for getting the HPV shot for my kids (boys and girls) I do not want them to get something I can prevent, but I am not so sure that HPV correlates with heart attacks from this study.
This is plenty to do the basic statistics, but when you start including lost of confounding factors like smoking, diet, etc. then you need more and more people in the study to get significant results. This article is not detailed enough to determine what is going on with that.
Go to Judicial Watch website and read how they had to get a freedom of information act lawsuit against the FDA to get information about the deaths involved with Gardacil. Stop blindly wanting to get every single vacination just because.....
300 dollars a shot, 3 shots for an understudied vacination that has already killed atleast 100 women and underage girls. Read it for yourself.
I assume that they might have corrected for all other known risk factors, but that would dilute the statistics to practically nil (starting with the 60 with either stroke or heart attack victims). If they did not correct for these factors, then there may just be a positive correlation between one risky behavior (unprotected sex) and another (eating high fat foods).
So where do people get tested to see if they are a carrier to this HPV virus. And how much does it cost? Anyone know? Maybe everyone should get tested to see if they are carriers of this virus.

Stories on HPV need to include the link to oral cancer as well as cervical cancer. There are more HPV-linked Oral cancers than cervical cancers and it affects men and women

There are many HPV strains which are not passed sexually. If you ever had a common or plantar wart, you had a form of HPV. Did they include nonsexual HPV strains? Also, some women get diagnosed with HPV and it disappears on it's own. How do we know, this is anywhere close to accurate on HPV numbers?
Another thing is, how closely did they look at the suppposed unknown causes. We tend to looks at stuff like obesity, exercise, cholesterol, blood pressure, heredity, but if they only checked for the main causes of heart disease and simply grouped the others as unknown, there may have been many known causes they ignored. People with certain other diseases like RA, thyroid, and diabetes are at risk. People taking certain medications.
Too much self-reporting, too small a study population, just not enough controls on the study. Plus the fact at least part of the funding came from sources that stand to benefit from the findings.
