"We mourn with heaven tonight over the loss of Initiative 26, which would have provided the hope of life for thousands of God's unborn babies in Mississippi," said the commission's director, the Rev. Jimmy Porter. "Instead the unborn in Mississippi will continue to be led down on a path of destruction to horrible deaths both inside their mothers and in laboratories."
Idiocy. If God, in these people's minds, "says" personhood begins at fertilization, then why does God abort nearly half of pregnancies? Spontaneous abortion, otherwise known as a miscarriage, happens in 40-60% of all fertlized eggs (zygotes).
Regardless, this was a horrible, dangerous initiative and even conservative, religious, and anti-choice people voted against it because it gave government the ability to control people (ie pregnant women or women of childbearing age) and make decisions about personal health, of which they have no stake in or knowledge of.
Opponents also said supporters were trying to impose their religious beliefs on others by forcing women to carry unwanted pregnancies, including those caused by rape or incest.
This is the crux of the matter. Even if it should by some chance pass, it will be struck down as unconstitutional. These religious fanatics are going to have to be satisfied with policing their own flocks.
I thought "we" were supposed to keep God out of politics. What's with all the Bible thumping and "praise Jesus" doing, coming out of the Republican party this election time? Go figure.
Loved your post MsKat. I lost a grand baby, in the womb, and my daughter in law, kept saying why would God do that?
Seems God is awfully busy now, with all the earthquakes, floods, tornado's and hurricanes he is supposed to be causing, and the Republican's sure are blaming him because Obama is the President.
