This isn't new. Maybe 10 years ago, CIBA Vision was working on a contact lens that could detect glucose levels for diabetics... so using tears to detect glucose is not novel. However, today's blood glucose monitors use such a small sample... I'm not sure if there's really a need for this.
LOL Now you need to get punched in the nose to make tears instead of a pin prick to test blood...seems all the same to me.

And how many decades before the insurance companies will pay for it? That's the usual hangup with most new devices and procedures.
And to get the tears flowing, simply stick your finger with a pin. :-)
