And yet, we continue to support the addition of sugar to everyday foods by buying and consuming those foods. Incredible. If sugary drinks are so bad for you, why are they even legal? Let's make rat poison sodas too. Sheesh.
Are you serious? Truly? How about instead of making things illegal, we make better CHOICES? You've bought into the government looking out for your best interests, haven't you? And I also find it interesting that they state "sugary drinks" in the article, but if you open the link, it's actually HFCS. Now, THERE'S a surprise!
But have a sugar drink, and all the sugar comes rushing into your system," Coulter said. And if the body has lost the ability to use the hormone insulin to regulate blood sugar (a condition called insulin resistance ), the extra sugar remains circulating in the blood.
So, basically foods with high sugar concentration are damaging to people who have diabetes-like conditions? .... shocking.
When my wife and I die, Coke will probably shelf Cherry Coke, and the stocks will drop a good 10+ points. My only question to Coke is this, "Why do you sell Coke with Real Sugar in Mexico, and Coke with High Fructose Corn Syrup to people in America?"
Because they can. Corn syrup is the cheapest sweetener available as corn farmers are subsidized by US tax payers. We grow more corn than we can eat or export. It's the reason why it's the #1 sweetener used here. Americans are used to it. Not so in other countries where sugar still dominates, due to local tastes.
It's almost like we've been tricked into eating corn syrup. It's really bad for you.
How about just knocking your soda habit, and drink water like human beings are supposed to? You're not supposed to even get calories from drinks, it's meant to quench thirst, so drink water, maybe gatorade if you absolutely must have flavor in your drinking. Calories are what food is for.
Drink water? Why would I drink something that stinks like a pool? Plus I live in Tennessee, it's a "Red State". You know Republicans hate regulations, they are bad for business, so NO, I don't drink much water.
Very convenient that I love unsweetened tea, however with everything having a study on how everything else is bad for you....it's more a question of quantity. As a comedian once said (slightly paraphrasing), "Just because you work out and lift weights and eat right and do what people tell you to do, doesn't mean that you'll live a long life....maybe you will....but why do people measure life by the years instead of how good the years where? ....I don't want to die tomorrow knowing I could have had a piece of cake tonight!"
There is no guarantee how long you are going to live. Even the healthiest person can get hit by a car, so really, strive to live as well as you can as best as you can. That doesn't mean you should skip the treats. Like I said, moderation,.
Right now, I am taxed to help fuel other people's addictions to soda. Stop farm subsidies for corn, and people who drink soda can pay more of its true cost and the government will save money.
I still maintain that selling poison disguised as something good should be illegal. No, I don't want Nanny Government telling me I can't drink it; I want the government to tell the companies that they can't make it and sell it. Since that's not going to happen, at least put big warnings on the label of all the health problems it can cause...like on cigarettes. Make it less appealling and help people make informed choices. Warning: this rat poison soda may be detrimental to your health. Now selling rat poison soda can be legal, see? It's no different.
If you want to facts, look up the study. This isn't a scholarly article; it's a health news piece that disseminates the basic information and conclusions from the study.
WorkerBee1, let me guess, you are one of the people screaming for a smaller less intrusive government, lol. Not one person is going to leave here alive and most do not need or want someone to tell them how to live. Educate the the public then step away.
you are missing quite a few on that list..better add a few more digits..decimal over..gmo foods,,drugged cows and chickens..this is sick and kept secret..i for one would pay more for organic but them to are also been targeted in my words for direct assault just like.soy milk...i think there is a eugenic agenda...more quetions i ask the more i get told to shut up..somethings wrong?lol..wrong questions..
That's an interesting perspective, but I don't like the idea of paying for people's lifetimes of bad choices, or continuing to overwhelm healthcare systems with totally avoidable chronic illnesses. On the other hand, I have compassion for people with addictions (alcohol, tobacco, sugar/processed foods, in this case), and it's infuriating that corporations with a keen interest in sustaining these addictions have so much influence. What, exactly, would be the harm in taxing the companies and the purchase of their products more heavily?
Also, have you ever witnessed or worked with people who have chronic illnesses from poor dietary/exercise habits, tobacco and alcohol abuse??? There are a lot of pretty terrifying ways to die, when you "eat, drink, and inhale" what you want.
`OMG..it doesnt take a rocket science to figure it out..i use to not believe what they said about GMO crops..corn being the number one crop..whats in the soft drink???one thing being is corn syrup???what happens when it gets hot???these are things that the monsanto corp and others are in for full profit mode..they dont care what it does to lab rats???they also put other things in the drink..if you drink pepsi and coke all the time..it causes big health problems to all not just women or skinny women but to all humanity..i didnt use to believe all they were saying about gmo foods i thought what ???nothing wrong with our food..those people are a bunch of liberal extremist after investigating a little...you will find out that they are right..!we are getting poisened.God save the republic ..help us all...
Another study that no one can say for certain. Those who take too much sugary drinks probably have other bad habits. Of those who had the heart attacks, did they smoke, did they eat fatty foods, did they eat a Twinkie everyday, and were they couch potatoes? I know, they all had their hair done at the beauty shop. If you ever walked into one of those places just the fumes will kill any roaches that happen to come buy.
everything now a days links to something bad for you, doesnt matter what it is, but its bad for you.. showers, your favorite drinks, whatever.. why dont they just say that breathing is bad for you as well, with all the chemicals that we use today, its no wonder that something is gonna kill you. we never worried about this stuff when we were younger, if you dropped your icecream on the ground when you were a kid,u picked it up and still licked it,now a days its oh no you are gone die if you pick that up and eat it.....
Lets see 70 years later people died from a surgery drink.Or was that Old age? Does this sound familiar? Milk it does the body good..But you will die from the fat.><
We do not need Food Cops telling us what to eat and drink... Pretty soon, the only thing we can eat is Water. I would say bread but the Food Cops probably will find something wrong with bread also.
One important thing they left out of this is, its not just 'sugary drinks'.. what about all those 'fat free' and 'low fat' foods like salad dressings that people buy thinking they are doing a good thing for their health.... They replace the fat with sugar to create the right consistency!
So.. even if you don't drink 'sugary' drinks, made with sugar or HFCS, you could be getting more than your share of 'sugary' by consuming 'diet foods'!
I think that the most important takeaway from this article is that healthy and fit people are not always thin, and vice versa (excepting of course the issue of belly fat). Larger people may be perfectly healthy and fit and, shocker, actually eat a nutritious diet? Lean, conventionally attractive body types can be unhealthy??
Our society is so into body snarking. It is important to recognize that healthy and unhealthy bodies come in all sizes. Shaming and guilt tripping does no one any good.
Great, another medical article by some quasi expert on a new theory. How often have there been warnings from the medical community about a study. Then 2 weeks later someone else studying the same thing comes out with a conflicting opinion.
Grants fund these studies. Grants allow someone to live on the money and come to some results favoring the source of the grant. It usually turns out to be some college or semiprivate group looking to be able to eat for a while. The do little to help the population in general. The old adage, "Liars can figure and fugures can lie" is live and well.
The only thing that generally does work is, "Everything in moderation". You can't eat a bad diet and expect to stay healthy.
I'm so worried about my wife - she has diabetes and uses an epi-pen every day and yet still drinks fizzy cola 2 or 3 times per week.(No it's not diet cola).
I have drank 2 or more Pepsi's a day since I was a teenager.. my mom had CAD, my dad had CAD, and I have it.. difference is mom never drank sweetened coffee or anything else.. dad drank overly sweetened coffee, but none other. So then, why did mom get CAD? Yours is a theory, but not a definite.
There is nothing you can eat or drink or smoke that the AMA won't clearly state why it causes heart disease.
I don't trust the AMA as I have an aortic aneurysm and have had for several years, but the AMA regulates surgery on it until it's a minimum of 5 cm (2 inches). It can burst at any time, even prior to 5 cm. So I ask the AMA why a stent isn't inserted when the aneurysm is diagnosed and small? Why cause a person to sweat it out to 5 cm (I think the current measure is 5.7 cm). Seems to me the AMA is risking a lot of lives and proving nothing by doing it. There's a government association putting their noses into private people's affairs, once again.
The doctor says "quit smoking", but doesn't say a word about "surgary drinks". For me, the damage is done.. but others, if true, could benefit from the knowledge about surgary drinks. It doesn't seem to rate front-page reporting, tho.
These things have been studied for years, look up fructose rats and you will get study after study on fructose which is half the sugar molecule. High trigycerides (the "glyc" means sugar by the way) metabolic syndrome, gallstones, congestive heart failure, enlarged heart, fatty liver disease, diabetes, all these things were caused by fructose in rat studies. also well known in science are the MSG rats- they have known that they can create obese mice (and they are reported as "genetic" ) by feeding then MSG when young. This makes them PERMANENTLY obese. Then they use them in other studies to see what obese rats (and hopefully people eventually) respond to. However, they are still just playing with the concept and don't seem in any hurry to tell us their conclusions.
Wait a minute - isn't it drummed into our heads by doctors that SKINNY PEOPLE DON'T HAVE HEALTH PROBLEMS? Aren't all ailments caused by the dreaded obesity? How can a skinny person have heart problems? Weight and BMI are the measure of all health - so thin people have NOTHING to worry about. Right?
And yet, we continue to support the addition of sugar to everyday foods by buying and consuming those foods. Incredible. If sugary drinks are so bad for you, why are they even legal? Let's make rat poison sodas too. Sheesh.
Are you serious? Truly? How about instead of making things illegal, we make better CHOICES? You've bought into the government looking out for your best interests, haven't you? And I also find it interesting that they state "sugary drinks" in the article, but if you open the link, it's actually HFCS. Now, THERE'S a surprise!
You know...Those ladies that followed that 2 glasses of wine thing per day may save their hearts...but their breasts will fall off......
If you live long enough....it will kill you!
I won't say life isn't worth living if I can't have my Coke, but must I really give up everything I enjoy?
There is nothing wrong with sugar, and if there was it would probably be Obama's fault.
So, basically foods with high sugar concentration are damaging to people who have diabetes-like conditions? .... shocking.
Not only that, look at what it did to my face skin. I suppose I need to stop using it as a skin conditioner.
When my wife and I die, Coke will probably shelf Cherry Coke, and the stocks will drop a good 10+ points. My only question to Coke is this, "Why do you sell Coke with Real Sugar in Mexico, and Coke with High Fructose Corn Syrup to people in America?"
Because the Coke manufactured in the US is made cheaper by corn subsidies....
And are diet drinks better for you?
Diet drinks should cut the number of rotten teeth.
No, diet drinks are damaging to the liver.
How about just knocking your soda habit, and drink water like human beings are supposed to? You're not supposed to even get calories from drinks, it's meant to quench thirst, so drink water, maybe gatorade if you absolutely must have flavor in your drinking. Calories are what food is for.
tea is the best.
Drink water? Why would I drink something that stinks like a pool? Plus I live in Tennessee, it's a "Red State". You know Republicans hate regulations, they are bad for business, so NO, I don't drink much water.
I don't have a "soda habit"; I was just asking.
Very convenient that I love unsweetened tea, however with everything having a study on how everything else is bad for you....it's more a question of quantity. As a comedian once said (slightly paraphrasing), "Just because you work out and lift weights and eat right and do what people tell you to do, doesn't mean that you'll live a long life....maybe you will....but why do people measure life by the years instead of how good the years where? ....I don't want to die tomorrow knowing I could have had a piece of cake tonight!"
you want to live long because you want to see your grand kids grow up.
There is no guarantee how long you are going to live. Even the healthiest person can get hit by a car, so really, strive to live as well as you can as best as you can. That doesn't mean you should skip the treats. Like I said, moderation,.
They attacked smoking , they attacked drinking , here comes the long awaited sin taxes on soda and other sugars .
Right now, I am taxed to help fuel other people's addictions to soda. Stop farm subsidies for corn, and people who drink soda can pay more of its true cost and the government will save money.
I still maintain that selling poison disguised as something good should be illegal. Another name for "rat poison"? Coumadin or Warfarin- medication used in the treatment of life-threatening blood clots. Just food for thought...
...So having warning messages on cigarettes has made people stop smoking?
Not.
Another article with no facts, but yet a conclusion is drawn. More worthless reporting from the MSM.
If you want to facts, look up the study. This isn't a scholarly article; it's a health news piece that disseminates the basic information and conclusions from the study.
I am glad I think for myself or I would be starving to death by now.

I'll eat, drink, and inhale what I want, It's my carcass and I take full responsibility for it.

Everybody dies some day and I can think of a lot of worst ways.
PS. YOU won't be paying for MY bad choices, "I take FULL responsibility for it".

Aw, crap. Finally get a job where the hot chocolate is free, and now this comes up.
No fun!
...And in three weeks to a month, this, too, will be debunked, because it is TOTAL BULL@!$%#.
Agreed, this is total bogus.
We do not need Food Cops telling us what to eat and drink... Pretty soon, the only thing we can eat is Water. I would say bread but the Food Cops probably will find something wrong with bread also.
