A correlation between one substance and a disease without a mechanism is pure conjecture. The thought is that womens birth control pills cause prostate cancer in men by getting into the water supply. The thinking is that womens urine excretes metabilites of estrogen that get into males prostates. Huh? It would be better to test the mechanism of a penis being in a womans vagina and its ability to absorb estrogen directly from there. The hypothesis would include testing on males whose partner is on the pill vs males whose partner is on the IUD vs males who use a condom. Its got to be a direct contact mechanism or none at all.
Well hold on just a minute. If a man lives long enough, he will have prostate issues. It makes sense that in developed countries where using contraceptives is common, and also, men live a long time because of that countries developed nature, that we would see more men with prostate issues. Correlation does not equal causation. I think they are barking up the wrong tree. Even if it is estrogen, it is more likely to be related to being fat than the Pill. They have shown in study after study that being fat causes an overproduction of estrogen in all people, hence, men with boobs, girls hitting puberty too soon, etc. It isn't the Pill, but more likely a result of living longer and living it up. ;)
Probably sponsored by the Catholic church and other right wingers who want to prevent women from using birth control. Where is the study on the adverse health effects on women from men using viagra?
The weird thing is, prostate cancer is sometimes treated hormonally with.. wait for it... estrogen.... the estrogen (and it's probably a different type than what's in BC pills) turns off the testosterone which fuels the cancer.... We are fast running out of safe, drinkable water... that's for sure.... hmmn.. maybe people could all stop P*ssing now...do they make a pill for that.. an anti-p*ss pill
From the US Geological Survey (usgs.gov is an agency that studies hazards that threatens the environment).
The higher the levels of estrogen in the Potomac river basin the higher the prevalence and severity of Testicular Oocytes in the Male smallmouth bass. Oocytes is a scientific word for the Female cell of reproduction. In other words the male bass testicular tissue has been feminized. This study: www.lsc.usgs.gov/files/EMAS.pdf
provides some evidence that validates the hypothesis of the canadian study.

I think you're confused.
These estrogen products have been found in the water supply.
this story brought to you by the bottled water lobby...

Wendy, you are right. With 7 billion people on this planet, the last thing we need to do is discourage use of the pill.
