Time to review the basics... rule #1 - don't screw with the people you don't know, rule #2 - always wear a cape if even the slightest doubt exists... and always wash your winky real good...
cheetah- Obviously you haven't been to the doctor lately, either that, or your insurance pays most of the bills, so you don't think it costs anything. They may be adding the cost of the contact investigation to this figure. That is where the Health Department tries to track down your sexual contacts so that they can be tested and treated in order to stop the spread of the disease. If that is included, then the cost estimate actually seems low to me.
Monogamous relationship, not marriage, is the key. Being married doesn't magically make everything OK. It's getting to know your partner before having sex and not sleeping around with others that is important.
Such a Politically Correct article, as is to be expected from MSNBC. They don't mention that the REAL difference is due to circumcision rates and condom usage. It has nothing to due with race at all. But it is true that circumcision reduces disease transmission, and it is proven that condom usage reduces disease transmission. What amazes me is how many guys just won't wear condoms. I know they're a pain but the using them can save your life!
STDs might be a big problems; then we are understated the reality of the problems, called STDs.
The lustful songs are ringing in the ears, either by force or by lust; and STDs are the Huge problems that our present and future generations are facing now. It is going to span across the board, meaning the globe.
The rate of everything will continue to reduce. Generation Y is not getting laid. The women think the men are idiots, and the men think the women are buffoons. We're all going to be single till death. Everyone is unrealistically picky and quick to judge incompatibility. Pathetic, really....f*cking pathetic.

19 million cases for $17 billion is almost a thousand per case. What do they get - a free car too?

You left out option three kid - keep your dick in your pants.
cheetah - that is a good advice, but statistically that just does not happen
The sexual revolution promised you sex without consequences and all you got was STDs. How is that working out for you?
dude, the 60s are over. That's why we have something called porn now, so we don't have the urge to screw people we don't know.
Refraining from sex unitl marriage doesn't sound so bad now, does it?
No, it doesn't. However being married is no guarantee against one spouse cheating and bringing home something deadly and disgusting.

Use a condom! I'm shocked to see that people still don't follow this simple rule.
MSNBC Health:
Syphilis rate drops as illegals leave the US.
Telemundo:
Mexico sees rise in syphilis.
amusing, but uncalled for

I use condoms and I wouldn't feel safe without them. Aside from STDs there's also pregnancy which I might be forced to pay for.

Sodom and Gomorrh are here...
Are you off of your meds again?
Rule #1: Don't have sex unless you want babies (hence wait till marriage)... Rule #2: Rule #1
Or use a condom and various other sorts of birth control. Much simpler and infinitely more sensible.

Not to mention that people still refuse to use condoms despite all that sex ed. They simply don't understand that prevention is often the best cure.
Moral of the story? Use a condom and don't screw people who you have trouble trusting.
