They may be adding the cost of the contact investigation to this figure. That is where the Health Department tries to track down your sexual contacts so that they can be tested and treated in order to stop the spread of the disease. If that is included, then the cost estimate actually seems low to me.

Monogamous relationship, not marriage, is the key. Being married doesn't magically make everything OK. It's getting to know your partner before having sex and not sleeping around with others that is important.
Use a condom! I'm shocked to see that people still don't follow this simple rule.

Such a Politically Correct article, as is to be expected from MSNBC. They don't mention that the REAL difference is due to circumcision rates and condom usage. It has nothing to due with race at all. But it is true that circumcision reduces disease transmission, and it is proven that condom usage reduces disease transmission. What amazes me is how many guys just won't wear condoms. I know they're a pain but the using them can save your life!
I use condoms and I wouldn't feel safe without them. Aside from STDs there's also pregnancy which I might be forced to pay for.
STDs might be a big problems; then we are understated the reality of the problems, called STDs.
