I know this will be an outrageously unpopular suggestion, mainly because it requires people to assume some responsibility for their own choices, but if AIDS is still primarily the bane of homosexual males and IV drug users, UNAIDS's efforts seem to be slightly misdirected. Perhaps they should focus on convincing homosexual males to use a condom and IV drug users to disinfect their needles.
globally, I meant to add. In the US and developed nations it may be true that "AIDS is still primarily the bane of homosexual males and IV drug users" however since AIDS is a global epidemic, hitting 3rd world and under developed nations hardest, the UNAID's strategy of education, prevention, and early detection/treatment will be beneficial as several studies have shown.
Future strategies might also include giving medicines to people at high risk even before they get infected. The World Health Organization is considering how to advise countries with major epidemics on giving drugs to healthy people vulnerable to catching the virus, such as prostitutes, gay men and injecting drug users, as a prevention method.
Are you suggesting that most prostitutes are black?
But, regardless of who "wins" the distinction of having the highest incidence of AIDS, the point remains the same. Focus on educating that group to make smarter choices.
As far as U.S. policy goes, it sounds to me - based on what you've said - that our best move would be to severely limit travel to or immigration from 3d world countries (which would probably be a very smart policy with regard to a number of issues).
Many AIDS/HIV cases are centered in Africa. There, women are used and abused at the hands of any and all. Therefore, black women (in Africa) are the most commonly infected. As they are traded around by the men, the men also become infected, and spread this scourge to other women and men and women and men, etc.
Many African political leaders deny that AIDS is sexually transmitted, and that condoms are unnecessary. Further the rampant corruption within the governmental authorities (I was going to say "skims," but the real word should be "shovels") shovels off the funds, much of which was donated by United States and European benefactors, into their own pockets. This is a common and accepted practice. Therefore, it is in the best interests of the governments' representatives of some countries to continue to allow AIDS/HIV to grow and spread. The rest of the world will keep sending the money, and they will keep stealing it.
People from more "developed" countries have seen a fall in numbers, mostly through education and availability of preventative measures. However, many are still willing to chance the situations, and they continue to hold the numbers somewhat steady.
Until EVERYONE understands that AIDS/HIV is sexually transmitted and/or blood borne pathogen, and EVERYONE is susceptible to it, and precautions are not taken to avoid infection; then the world will continue to suffer the consequences: Illness and death. Denying the facts, stealing the funds, takeing chances, and rampant corruption continue to keep throwing victory over this malady into the jaws of defeat.
... and how does the video have evidence the organs were infected?
Didn't suddenly appear, hiv was in the gay community since the 1950's but massive free sex without protection by gays in the 70's caused the spike we saw beginning in 1980. Same thing occured with all other sexual diseases with gays at same time
If you say hiv does not cause aids, are you willing to test your theory buy injecting a hiv infected sample into your bloodstream?
and how does the video have evidence the organs were infected?
There was a Belgian documentary talking about how they were using monkeys and videos of them being taken to the same laboratory after Gallo vehemently denied ever using them for vaccine research. This should have alarmed authorities and at least caused an investigation. Instead, he gets attention for discovering the disease.

I never heard of that. It was understood that cases didn't appear in homosexual circles until the late 70s, 10-15 years after cases began in the Congo.
If you say hiv does not cause aids, are you willing to test your theory buy injecting a hiv infected sample into your bloodstream?
Just an aside, I saw a documentary (a while ago--on TLC, I think), that had reported a very early case of AIDS (in the US--I think it was in Kansas City or St. Louis, but it's been a while since I saw it, and I may be wrong) in the mid-60s. The doctors had not identified it as AIDS until much later. It was the only one identified at the time, but if others were in the population, the people infected may have been diagnosed with other causes of death.
It would be interesting to see what kind of timeline has been developed to track AIDS/HIV back to Case Zero.
Aids is a self limiting disease if only people would use discretion and avoid indiscriminate sex. We have spent billions if not trillions on this issue worldwide, because of the lack of common sense in the people world wide. One can live without sex. Is it worth death? ... I think not. If they think it is...let them die!!
The AIDS epidemic is leveling off and the number of people newly infected with the virus that causes it has remained unchanged since 2007, the United Nations said in a report Monday.
If most people have already got it and there aren't many left to catch it you could also claim that it is leveling off and stabilizing.
People need to develop a different attitude regarding sex. Wait until you have real feelings for each other before jumping the sack. Don't view sex as something to do but a gift to share with someone you love.
Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Yet I managed. I had one long term relationship that lasted three years. Then there was 3 years before I met my wife. We didn't have sex until the wedding night. During those three years between I dated but never jumped in the sack even though I had opportunities. The feelings just weren't deep enough.
If a sex crazed husband like me can wait then anyone can.

Except, Miker, the demographic group with the highest prevalence of HIV and AIDS is black females.

I'm just going on what I read in this article.

it's not like the US can just shut its borders from the big bad world out there.
Hell, the US and its regulatory agencies can't even monitor what we put in food these days. A point I have driven home with infant formulas.
True. Which is exactly why certain individual STATES have acted independently of the ineffective federal government.

Didn't we import AIDS via green monkeys while developing vaccinations?
I wonder when the truth about HIV will ever be revealed. There's several baffling issues:
1. Scientists denied using infected monkey organs for vaccines research. There's video evidence they did, yet nobody is investigating this.
2. From remote jungles in sub-sahran Africa, the disease then suddenly appears in homosexual communities in US and Europe. ?????
3. The disease has never been isolated
4. It isn't uncommon for HIV tests to yield both negative and positive results.
5. There's just as much evidence that HIV doesn't cause AIDS
First, where is the video.
... and how does the video have evidence the organs were infected?

It was already done, google Dr. Robert Willner

At this point in the West, after 30 years of daily news, anyone getting hiv in the West can be placed in the "clear the genepool of dummies" list
