Judging by where they are offering these tests it seems some 'profiling' is going on. How about offering it at a grocery store and reach a wider population.
The clinic is right there nearby as it said in the story. If they are in an area where HIV rates are high wouldn't it make sense to have a testing site there? Sure, more places would be nice, but this is a start and I think it's a great idea as long as the people get privacy for results.

How is offering people on line at the DMV profiling? People from every walk of life go to the DMV.
BlueMist: "How is offering people on line at the DMV profiling?"
Because it is not being offered only at the DMV. Here is a quote from the article:
Now, officials are expanding the program, offering testing for the first time at an office where Washington residents register for food stamps, Medicaid and other government assistance.
So, the testing is voluntary, free, and not funded by the government but a charitable organization. I think that is awesome, especially the responses.
This is certainly a time to appreciate the media for covering this. With our modern culture viewing sex as an acceptable casual experience it seems to me that we should support the charities willing to expand this, and encourage those willing to take the tests.
We used to rely on a sense of morality and responsibility to deal with the dangers of random and frequent indulgences in one of humankind's basic drives, but values have changed dramatically.
Let's hope the defenses these seemingly outmoded survival skills once provided are being replaced by intelligent adaptation to this new world.
Although the story did not specify where the grant money came from I have a feeling it came from the govt, given to a non profit. Call me old fashion, but I still depend on morality and personal responsibilitywhen these indulgences, arise i my life. But this is a small amount of money to be spent on a worthy project, so i to think the project should be enlarged.
This offers people a $7 discount on the DMV and a $5 gift card, which means that it gives them not only a little bit of financial help, but also information and peace of mind (and, if need be, counseling). Like supermarkets offering flu shots for a discount on your groceries, we need more programs like this!
I wouldn't be surprised if the testing agency, or so-called charity, is funded by the pharmaceutical companies. Imagine the profit they'll be reaping from a few positive diagnosis of people---as they'll be locking these people into a lifetime commitment of taking their medications that only masks the symptoms and doesn't get rid of the virus. No wonder they're unable to find a cure for the disease after two decades of research. Here is a message to whoever are the funders: Spend the money on finding cure instead of walking the extra mile to recruit new patients to take your medications.
DC has some of the highest rates of HIV in the COUNTRY. I think this is a WONDERFUL idea! Keep up the good work DC DMV!

However, one of the most important things upon learning of your + test results, if that is the case, is SUPPORT!!!!! That isn't mentioned yet!

As the test is being offered where residents register for government assistance, I imagine there will be many people who will think the same thing.

Even if it was government funded it is a good idea, and i would be happy to know my tax dollars were going into it!
If profiling can gets me an HIV test that may save my life, profile me please.
i didn't write anything here
