I am sick of breast cancer patients!!! They think everything is about them. Why don't they make a Ken with a colostomy bag or a drug addict Barbie with needle tracks? Those are a reality too. Let kids be kids while they can be, they'll have to face all the BS soon enough.
... "they think everything is about them"?! You disgust me. How about you actually read the article. THEN you'll see that this is about childhood cancer, Alopecia, and Trichotillomania. Something that a child could relate to and feel better about themselves because of. You should try going through some rounds of chemo and radiation and then let us all know how you fair as a young child. Ya know, when you don't really understand what is going on or how devastated you are that you're going to lose your hair. Seriously. Prick. As for the medical marijuana Barbie... won't even entertain that one.
I guess LadySam and BeefBurger have no health issues that force them to find compassion or maturity in a serious situation like this. I've watched THREE children in the circle of friends and family I know (Kinley included) become ill with leukemia. Two of them has died. Funny? I think not. Even if this was a campaign for breast cancer - what a cold-hearted comment to leave. :-/
LadySam - reality is, kids who get sick are forced to deal with things they do not comprehend most of the time. Like why we give them medicines that make their hair fall out and then tell them it's to make them get better. Or that doctors have to poke and prod at them with a needle, at times, every day. Or that they have to wear a face mask. I think a Barbie doll to represent the forced reality they deal with, but in the form of a toy, IS embracing childhood and allowing a child to continue being just that... a child.
Wow. Some people are just insensitive. I agree with ItFollowsMe. if a child could have a toy that reflected what they are going through, they may feel comforted just a teeny bit and see that it is okay. when all your baribes have beautiful hair, etc. and you don't and are dealing with a horrific disease, it is like rubbing it in their faces. Just give these children some compassion. and having a ken with a colostamy bag wouldnt be a bad idea either, if it made a child feel better with what they are going through. why does everything and every toy have to be "perfect". geez. i am signing the petition. I think it is a very reasonable thing to ask of Mattel, they do market these towards children after all.

Next up, medical marijuana Barbie.
