A hearty congratulations to these researchers for discovering the painfully obvious. Contrary to what the $60 billion diet industry would have us believe, eating is good for you! And it helps you maintain a normal body weight if you do it right, and don't fall for every money grubbing diet guru and 'biggest loser' schill out there telling you to starve yourself all day long.
Although I'd be interested to know if eating more frequent, smaller meals helps with weight control, I have to point out that I think the reason most of us don't eat this way is because we work full days in offices, and most of the time these offices don't have good food available to snack on.
In my office, for instance, we start work at 7am, but with the commute to a remote site it means eating breakfast around 6. There's an official half hour lunch break at 11:30. Most employees are required to eat their lunch (if they have one) during that time. Many employees don't have another opportunity to eat anything other than a bag of chips until they get home from work, which for those who commute is around 6pm. Then it's off to bed at 9. Not a lot of ways to squeeze an extra two mealtimes around that.
I've always been a grazer. I don't do it as a diet plan, I just like to pick on small amounts of food all day long. In the evening too. Eating a large meal makes me uncomfortable. I've never been overweight, although Im not skin and bones. But then I've worked out for decades and lead a moderately active life overall. Still, my favorite thing is to sit on the couch, watch t.v. or read a good book while munching on chips. I just make sure to make up for it with a some exercise 3 to 4 times a week.
Its not a good thing if your waist stays the same size from when you are 9 until you are 20. And eating more is not the answer, its what foods you eat. Most people don't eat enough fruits and salads (not including the "healthy" food from McDonalds.) Its just common sense.
I use to eat like a pig and never gained weight. It is what you eat, not how much. I didn't eat donuts, candy and practically nothing sweet. I ate bacon, eggs, toast or biscuits for breakfast...peas or beans with chicken or pork chops (fried or barbqued) or meat loaf with green beans and mashed potatoes or potato salad, or on a lazy day, spaghetti, or sandwiches, tater tot casserole, chicken livers and rice and biscuits or steak, rice and buscuits for lunch and the leftovers for dinner. This is just to name a few things off my menu. I never gained weight until I moved to Illinois and started going to Taco Bell and other fast food restaurants. Taco Bell almost killed me with those rocks (silicon dioxide) grinded up in the meat. I was 125 pounds for 25 yrs. I looked like I was 105 pounds. I gained up to 170. I changed my eating habits, started walking 2-3 hrs 5 days per week and I slimmed down again but haven't lost all of the weight. I am 156 pounds and look like I am 130.
You know what else is common sense? Healthy foods suck. When I get hungry it is rare that I crave an apple or a banana. What I crave is pasta and cheese and steak. If that's bad, then why do I crave it? Think about it. If the body only craved healthy things in healthy amounts, we'd have no problems. Just think how much successful people would be if they craved studying and careful driving but no. They want to spend the weekend getting drunk and drving around like maniacs while eating fried food.

We've got to get out of this workaholic culture.
