What is going to stop the pron indusrty from driving 40 miles to Riverside or SB counties and filming there for the day in a warehouse. I think they are moving into a area that they have no right to eneter. What's next condoms for couple that do not plan on having children?
My guess is that this ordinance will be challenged and found unconstitutional. The government has no right to dictate things like this. It is up to the individual performers to set the conditions under which they will participate, not the government. All LA is going to do with this stupid ordinance is create a lot of legal bills for the city and at least temporarily drive business to leave the area. Whether you approve of the porn industry or not, they currently generate a lot of business for LA and revenue for the city coffers. This is not something that LA can afford to lose in the current economic climate.
They have every right to. It's a workplace. The government can step in and tell the "employees" what is and is not a safe working environment. The courts will uphold the law. People need to remember this is not about regulating what goes on with consenting adults in their personal life. This is about regulating a workplace environment and the safety of those employees.
Now I understand how they got so deep into debt, first they tax the businesses to death so they run away from that state and if that's not enough this is one their largest Tax generating industries and they will cause them to flee like all the other businesses did, can you say Morons ....
moonbeamracer : Hummmmmm Isn't that a law that is sexually discriminatory? It only is directed at men! .... the only person that could violate the law would be men if they didn't wear one .... time for women to step up to the plate! LOL ..
This law would affect LA CITY, not LA County....so they don't have to go 40 miles. Just drive to Glendale, Santa Monica, Pasadena, any city in the South Bay, etc, etc.
What this really amounts to is another moral law that will drive an industry out of America.
We need to get rid of politics as a "career" and start voting in regular people. Laws like this from greedy politicians is what is destroying America.
The only law I would agree to for the porn industry is a statement at the beginning that states it is recommended that a condom should be used during sex if you are not planning on having children and to HELP REDUCE the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
If you read the warning on the package, it plainly states it will not 100% protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Could you imagine the lawsuits if they made a claim that condoms prevented sexually transmitted diseases?
This law is pure BS that is solely moralistically based. The individuals that are behind this law should be financially held responsible for any porn star who contracts any sexually transmitted disease that the condom is suppose to prevent. A condom doesn't even give you a 100% guarantee against pregnancy let alone sexually transmitted diseases.
There are some things that I don't agree with that there is a market for, so I don't back that argument, but I won't back a BS law based just on a groups morals either.
It is solely the stars choice if they want to use protection or not.
Basically, get your morals out of my life and I won't push my morals into your life. This is flatly against what our Fore-Fathers fought and died for.
the CDC has been involved. they've been saying use condoms for 20+ years and the porn industry ignores them. the porn industry will do anything to maintain the status quo. there have been several documented cases of first time performers who were just trying to make an extra buck that caught HIV on their very first shoot. the porn industry claimed to have safegaurds in place, and treatment avaliable to those who are infected on the job. that treatment turned out to be being told not to say anything to anyone about being HIV+ or having ever worked in the porn industry and to leave town as soon as possible.
the porn industry is about as capable of regulating itself as the banksters are. the major difference is instead of possibly losing your home you could lose your life.
And this goes way beyond work place safety. It is nothing like having a safety rope on to prevent you from falling 20 stories, or exhaust fans to remove carbon monoxide.
It is more like keeping marijuana (which I personnally dislike) illegal while alcohol is not. Marijuana is is a way "safer" drug than alcohol, and has more positive benefits than alcohol. Like most drugs, there is a "side effect" which may not be considered a positive benefit, but it is minor compared to a slew of other legal drugs. There is also the huge tax revenue legal marijuana sales would make.
While we are pushing this particular "work place safety" law we also require that you can only show prone position while having sex to prevent back injuries. And they must wear projective gloves while masterbating a partner. Let's go for the gusto and require full body protection to prevent everything! This NOT a "safety" law, no matter how you look at it.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
A condom doesn't even give you a 100% guarantee against pregnancy let alone sexually transmitted diseases.
A hard hat doesn't give you a 100% guarantee that something won't fall on your head and kill you, but you still have to wear one on construction sites. Not saying I agree with the law, however.
With todays technology cant they just edit the condoms into the video? Bet the law didnt think of that one. Also what good does a condom do if they just rip it off for the grand finale at the end of the scene anyway? This is one of those laws that nobody will enforce in a few years. Gotta love Cali, smoke all the weed you want but as a porn star you have to wrap up. I wish Peter North would leave us a comment lol.
I agree completely! But politicians feel especially at home in this industry since they also make a living at screwing people.......Adult Movies or CSPAN...one is just more entertaining than the other....the outcome is the same.
If that's the case I say that everyone on Capital Hill should be forced to wear a condom 24/7 because they spend all their working lives screwing America.
Who said it was the religious crowd who asked for this law? I didn't read that in the article....the only thing I saw was that someone from some AIDS group supported it.
Just another story that truly won't affect the majority of the population, but creates a distraction to the important issues. So everyone let's oblige and bury our heads in the bosom of the sex industry.
Toasty: What??? You disapprove of the government controlling an industry? As to the requirement that congress be required to wear condoms; I think that it is the taxpayer who needs complete body condoms to protect us from congress.
Kenslea misses the point. Los Angeles County is not all of Southern California. Much of the infrastructure can easily be moved before this goes into effect and as far as production facilities go, how hard can it be to find an empty house or warehouse? This is really just another example of California trying to push business out of the state.
Thats why they're called "Legislatiors" it's what they do.
They have nothing else to do all day but sit around thinking up ways to invade your life and stop you from doing something, or making you do something you don't want to do.
America the baby sitting capitol of the world.
You WILL wear a condom.
You WILL wear a crash helmet.
You WILL wear your seat belt.
You WILL NOT smoke herbs unless we're making money on the sale of said herbs.
Home of the Brave, Land of the FREE, I don't think so.
All of the things you mentioned have to do with You AND me having to foot the bill if they don't do them sooooo...let them make the laws that help protect me from having to pay for someone else's stupidity!
all those laws are to protect people not harm them
Sorry the condom law isn't to protect someone.. its to prevent having to pay for their health care when they get HIV. Basically as long as taxpayers pay for people getting HIV and other STDS and pay for medical bills for motorist who get hurt and have to pay for peoples medical bills for abusing drugs there will be laws against doing such things.
Now it would be great if you could OPT out of those laws but with the understanding that if you will recieve NO public assitance if you are injured any way from those actions (finacially or physically). So that would mean you could not wear a helmet but if you were in a crash and you couldn't afford the health care the state would pay for it and just leave you to die.. which I doubt you would want.
Barry-NJ It is pretty simple, be as reckless as you like but when things go bad for you pay your own way. I don't care what you do and no one cares what I do as long as someone else is not affected by bad choices of another. Simple stuff right? I don't wanna be your daddy bailing your sorry butt out because you didn't think of consequences. Get it?
Red Sailor-Good one! But seriously there ought to be fines on these polticians that are wasting time and money trying to regulate an industry that already has checks and balances in place, ex: testing for STDs. Mygirl1-loved your comment as well. LMAO. Honestindy-Are you kidding? You'll love your own idea right up to the time you do something stupid and need help. Then you'' be screaming long and loud for your "right" to assistance!!
Or Eastern Europe - Prague, Budapest are pretty popular. Lots of pretty white girls willing to work cheap. Of course they still charge us $30 a month. The majic of the global economy.
Intrussion into private business? L.A. is so screwed up, how in the hell are they going to even attempt to enforce this ignorant law? They can't. I'm sure that san Bernadino County would welcome the revenue, as would Orange and Riverside counties. Maybe, the church is behind this move, wouldn't surprise me. At any rate, prove where the movie was made, and if not in L.A. County, tough S#**^t!
People from all walks of life and professions test positive for HIV and other STDs on a daily basis. Whats next?? Quarterly testing of all citizens so the government can strip away the rights of everyone who gets an STD???????????????????
Porn shouldn't be available to anyone...whose mind is it good for? No one's! That is one of the many problems with the people in this world today, they can't seem to keep sex where it belongs. Let's keep private things PRIVATE!
Why shouldn't porn be available to the people that want it? Seems to me there was a world war fought over thinking like that. If you don't like it, don't watch it.
Really JC? I'm 65 and haven't seen a porn movie since my early 20's. Most people outgrow them at some point and if they don't so what? How is that any of your business? Funny how you right wingers want the government in MY business. I don't watch porn and I say it's the people's right to watch porn if they want.
My, my, Robert.....two posts already labeling people "religious" and "right winger" and what proof do you have? None! I love how people on here call names and degrade others for having an opinion :-/
Regina ... maybe JC isn't a right-winger, but I think that Robert has good reasons for making that assumption. Generally, it is the right-wingers who are obsessed with the sex lives of others.
Careful Robert, I am a right-winger. I think if adults want to watch porn, then so be it. I also think this ordinance is more big government intrusion. I am tired of government stipping our rights away one by one.
Robert, which is it? you have never seen a porn movie or haven't seen one since your twenties?
Of course lynn "the people are nuts". I'm 65, lived in California for more than 50 years, never been arrested, never been in jail, never been in a porn movie being made, never seen a porn movie
Thank God my hillbilly a$s from Oklahoma learned how to read, applied for some schollies and attended a fancy university back east. Not quite as impressive as your internet resume since my son is only 4 but he does swing a mean wiffle ball bat. Now, would you like to clarify exactly which it is? you've seen porn or you haven't. You have a lot of posts, hard to keep it straight I imagine. I agree that $100k isn't really that much; especially for California but if it wasn't meant to be bragging, then why even bring it up? why assign a dollar figure to it? "we make this...", "my wife and I are this...", "our children are this..." as if pointing out the rest of us ARE NOT. You're a good person for doing what your relatives cannot afford to do but next time, keep it to yourself you classist jerk.
And keep the government the hell out of my porn!!!
What it is Jason is I went back and edited and then realized too late, that I had inserted the addition on the wrong line. What I meant to say is that I have never seen a porn movie being made, I.E. they are not rolling around naked on the streets. OK? That clarify it for you?
As for Oklahoma, I spent my first 15 years there. It's a great place to be from. Key word being FROM. You won't mind if I don't want to live in one of the states that is the most backwards in the country would you? You're the WORST in infant mortality. The 8th most obese. Fifth worst in median income. In fact Oklahoma rates in the worst 10 in virtually every negative category tracked.
But hey, even a blind dog finds a bone now and then. We do agree that the government has no business in the porn business. It's a start.
In other news, the government just passed another law requiring all citizens to say the Pledge of Allegence before having sex in bed, and pay a foreplay tax.
If they actually figured a way to tax sex, all of the lying ( we do it 6 times a week, three times a day, etc.) would stop. If you have kids and an full time job, once a week if you are lucky. I found, raising 4 boys, that Vaseline is a great sex aid. You put it on the doorknob, and it keeps the kids out.
That tax, does that also include masterbation? I had an old g/f that would wrap my testicles with aluminum foil and then hum the Star Spangled Banner on the foil and well sure, I would stand up. I miss her. Come to think of it, I miss a lot of the old g/f's now. What happens to women, after they get married? If it was up to me, I would just tax women for everything and not just when they're having sex. Guys are already paying enough for it, one way or another.
Oh no, here comes King Kong playing with his rubber ding dong. The porn industry is probably the safest place to have unprotected sex unless you are in an authentic committed marriage.
Denveright; I'm glad you mentioned the rubber ding dong because thats what I had to buy my ex. Yesiree, I had a electric 220v jackhammer, that I conveted to accept a 18 inch, lime green, jelly dong dildo for her. Thats the only thing that made her happy. Now something like that, I would hope they did tax that by the inch, it would only be a little karma, for her robbing me.
Denveright303; Your comment made me wonder what the right considers good sex. As conservative and religious as the right is, it seems to me that they wouldn't know what to do in the bedroom, unless they have a gun with them and theres no reason to have a gun in the bedroom. So this almost makes me want to picture, Newt, or Rich Perry and Mitt in the sack, yes sir reese. I bet they get on top and grunt, roll over and go to sleep. Oh yeah, maybe they ask, "was it as good for you, as it was me"? before going to sleep. So if the government would tax people for how long they last in the sack, they would owe the republicans money, it just figures, don't it? You know theres a loophole in there for them.
Oh my, now studs like Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer will have to put on their raincoats before they nail their women Nostrilitis Waxman and Moonbeam Brown. Will they still be able to scream and holler? I wonder
Here's another example of something that has perfectly sound good intentions but will prove to be unenforceable. Porn performers should have the option of choosing to work with or without condoms. I think their pay is higher if they don't and, as noted in the text, consumer demand remains higher for "bareback" porn. It might work better if LA offered incentives to performers and production companies to use condoms. Some--ChiChi LaRue, I think is one--already adhere to protected sex performances.
What is going to stop the pron indusrty from driving 40 miles to Riverside or SB counties and filming there for the day in a warehouse. I think they are moving into a area that they have no right to eneter. What's next condoms for couple that do not plan on having children?

True md, and from what I know they do regulate and have rules.
They have doctors and regular checkups.
"Butt" every once in a while there is a workplace mishap.
And, dammit, sometimes you get the disgruntled employee.
But, most times he or she won't be in the "mood" to work anyway.
Workplace health and safety is regulated in many industries. One wonders if Tabitha has HIV--yet.
LOL ..
There is such a thing as female condoms
Gaia,
If the woman is wearing one of those female condoms, I presume it's internal, so It can't be seen during the filming, so:
1, in use the audience won't know it's there, and,
2, All the industry needs to do is SAY the female condom is in use and make the authorities PROVE it...
This law would affect LA CITY, not LA County....so they don't have to go 40 miles. Just drive to Glendale, Santa Monica, Pasadena, any city in the South Bay, etc, etc.
JS - The government dictates things like workplace conditions all the time.
Relocate the industry to AZ. We could use some industry here and I need a job.
but are you up to the requirements of the work?
I wanna be a porn star baby, got my "jimmie hats" and ready to go, lmao

the CDC has been involved. they've been saying use condoms for 20+ years and the porn industry ignores them. the porn industry will do anything to maintain the status quo. there have been several documented cases of first time performers who were just trying to make an extra buck that caught HIV on their very first shoot. the porn industry claimed to have safegaurds in place, and treatment avaliable to those who are infected on the job. that treatment turned out to be being told not to say anything to anyone about being HIV+ or having ever worked in the porn industry and to leave town as soon as possible.

I'm sure the porn folks will find someplace with common sense that will gladly accept their filming fees.
I'm building a studio in my back lot tomorrow!
i hope you have a couple hundred gallons of bleach and a hazmat suit to clean up with afterwards.
I finally get to say this: this is government intrusion on private business, and it is wrong.
Funny how the religious crowd can't wait to get the government into what THEY want the government into isn't it?
Who said it was the religious crowd who asked for this law? I didn't read that in the article....the only thing I saw was that someone from some AIDS group supported it.
Toasty, you finally posted a comment I agree with. Amazing!
Just another story that truly won't affect the majority of the population, but creates a distraction to the important issues. So everyone let's oblige and bury our heads in the bosom of the sex industry.
Yea Toasty - We agree on something!
Or maybe it's just L.A.'s way of saying they no longer want to be the porn film making capitol of CA anymore.
Realist, yeah! Now they can get back to being the gang capitol, or the pollution capitol.
Get those porn movies out, so you can focus on the topless bars, masage parlors, XXX movie houses.......
more useless,needless government stupidity!
Does the government have anything else better to waste their time and money on? Pete's sake.
Thats why they're called "Legislatiors" it's what they do.

Wow ... how paternalistic of you. What is wrong with people weighing the risks and making their own decisions, even if they don't agree with yours?
Barry-NJ It is pretty simple, be as reckless as you like but when things go bad for you pay your own way. The government has been F U C K ing people without wearing condoms for years!
The porn industry will move overseas.
Been to Japan lately. It already has.
Of course it will. Just one more industry exported then the product imported with the profits going to overseas corporations.
Or Eastern Europe - Prague, Budapest are pretty popular. Lots of pretty white girls willing to work cheap. Of course they still charge us $30 a month. The majic of the global economy.
middle east where the girls eat @!$%# in a cup!
Well, I guess LA will be losing some big business.
Hmmm, time to buy up land in the Nevada desert.
Sounds like Lex Luthor might be behind this whole fiasco.
Dumb politicians. I prefer to make my own, anyway.
I don't want to know how or what you use for material.
Just another bunch of people legislating morality. Why are my taxes going to such useless, unenforcible junk??
Intrussion into private business? L.A. is so screwed up, how in the hell are they going to even attempt to enforce this ignorant law? They can't. I would like to offer my application for the new state job position of Porn Review Tech.
The move was brought on because recently an actor (if you want to call him that) in the LA Porn industry tested positive for HIV.
People from all walks of life and professions test positive for HIV and other STDs on a daily basis. Whats next?? Quarterly testing of all citizens so the government can strip away the rights of everyone who gets an STD???????????????????
Good! it should be in the bedroom anyway and not on some screen
Put it on the screen in your bedroom and things might perk up in there for you.
Oh shut up JC
Hey JC,
That's a wicked judgmental thing to say! If you don't like porn....don't watch it. Porn is wicked pissah! Go Pats!
Porn shouldn't be available to anyone...whose mind is it good for? No one's! That is one of the many problems with the people in this world today, they can't seem to keep sex where it belongs. Let's keep private things PRIVATE!

There has to be a loophole.
Maybe they can use the condoms to tie each other up?
Here's your sign.
Is this a firm decision?
It had better be, or there might be some "slip ups".
It stuff like this that made me quite the business!
We need some kind of movement to limit government only to topics within their specific governing context.
They pass these laws while frequently neglecting their core responsibilities altogether.
Is their air clean? How polluted is the water supply? Are all their roads up to spec? And on and on.
I have this sneaking suspicion the "ordinance" will be found unconstitutional if challenged.
My dick is so big, you can cut it in half and tell how old I am!
Wishful thinking . . . those that talk about it have the most to worry about! Size does matter and we women want big ones.
Hey Positive Me, I don't think you 'got' the joke.
Yea Positive Me, the joke is in his pants..lol
He's a tree? Now is that what is meant by 'woodie?' Wouldn't cutting your dick in half make it smaller? Nevermind...
Please don't use the words "cutting" and "dick" in the same sentence. (cringe)
Come to mention it, they might not even need "loopholes", just a "hole".
I can see a whole set of rules and regulations brewing now.
Plus a government video on how to put on and properly use a condom.
Oh, and they will figure out a way to tax per usage.
and they will ask the porn industry to produce the video!! :)
Actually foreplay is on the schedule to be banned.
I don't think anyone is surprised that L.A. City Council is active in the Porn Business.
They have pretty much #%*%ed UP just about everything else they are doing. Why not mingle in the Porn Business.
Well california......say goodbye to another profitable industry you ran off with over regulation and taxes..
If ther's no money shot, how can they expect tax revenue?
Porn industry wont move they think?
Remind me again which State is right next door that has legal brothels.
They'll move, and in this economy their new home will welcome them gladly.
I wish 99% of the people in this world parents had used condoms.
