My guess is that this ordinance will be challenged and found unconstitutional. The government has no right to dictate things like this. It is up to the individual performers to set the conditions under which they will participate, not the government. All LA is going to do with this stupid ordinance is create a lot of legal bills for the city and at least temporarily drive business to leave the area. Whether you approve of the porn industry or not, they currently generate a lot of business for LA and revenue for the city coffers. This is not something that LA can afford to lose in the current economic climate.

They have every right to. It's a workplace. The government can step in and tell the "employees" what is and is not a safe working environment. The courts will uphold the law. People need to remember this is not about regulating what goes on with consenting adults in their personal life. This is about regulating a workplace environment and the safety of those employees.

What this really amounts to is another moral law that will drive an industry out of America.

The only law I would agree to for the porn industry is a statement at the beginning that states it is recommended that a condom should be used during sex if you are not planning on having children and to HELP REDUCE the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

If you read the warning on the package, it plainly states it will not 100% protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Could you imagine the lawsuits if they made a claim that condoms prevented sexually transmitted diseases?

This law is pure BS that is solely moralistically based. The individuals that are behind this law should be financially held responsible for any porn star who contracts any sexually transmitted disease that the condom is suppose to prevent. A condom doesn't even give you a 100% guarantee against pregnancy let alone sexually transmitted diseases.

There are some things that I don't agree with that there is a market for, so I don't back that argument, but I won't back a BS law based just on a groups morals either.

the CDC has been involved. they've been saying use condoms for 20+ years and the porn industry ignores them. the porn industry will do anything to maintain the status quo. there have been several documented cases of first time performers who were just trying to make an extra buck that caught HIV on their very first shoot. the porn industry claimed to have safegaurds in place, and treatment avaliable to those who are infected on the job. that treatment turned out to be being told not to say anything to anyone about being HIV+ or having ever worked in the porn industry and to leave town as soon as possible.

the porn industry is about as capable of regulating itself as the banksters are. the major difference is instead of possibly losing your home you could lose your life.

And this goes way beyond work place safety. It is nothing like having a safety rope on to prevent you from falling 20 stories, or exhaust fans to remove carbon monoxide.

It is more like keeping marijuana (which I personnally dislike) illegal while alcohol is not. Marijuana is is a way "safer" drug than alcohol, and has more positive benefits than alcohol. Like most drugs, there is a "side effect" which may not be considered a positive benefit, but it is minor compared to a slew of other legal drugs. There is also the huge tax revenue legal marijuana sales would make.

While we are pushing this particular "work place safety" law we also require that you can only show prone position while having sex to prevent back injuries. And they must wear projective gloves while masterbating a partner. Let's go for the gusto and require full body protection to prevent everything! This NOT a "safety" law, no matter how you look at it.

Sorry the condom law isn't to protect someone.. its to prevent having to pay for their health care when they get HIV. Basically as long as taxpayers pay for people getting HIV and other STDS and pay for medical bills for motorist who get hurt and have to pay for peoples medical bills for abusing drugs there will be laws against doing such things.

Now it would be great if you could OPT out of those laws but with the understanding that if you will recieve NO public assitance if you are injured any way from those actions (finacially or physically). So that would mean you could not wear a helmet but if you were in a crash and you couldn't afford the health care the state would pay for it and just leave you to die.. which I doubt you would want.
