Why doesn't the FDA work on some more important issues like labeling GMO's in our food supply, banning BPA, or banning the numerous FDA approved drugs that kill thousands of people every year. How about working on that FDA or is the conflict of interest of your leadership just to great to deal with those problems?
I asked myself the same question. My only logical conclusion was that since several articles mentioned that it wasn't harmful in the detected quantities, in higher amounts the fungicide and become toxic. Of course, it could always be an FDA power-play to regulate yet another safe product out of existence. This article might answer some of your questions about this whole situation: http://bit.ly/AfWE
This pesky, liberal government agency wasting taxpayers dollars testing for fungicide in orange juice. Only when the Republicans gain power, will big government get off the backs of our corporate citizens and give us the freedom to enjoy our orange juice with fungicide.
Any time the FDA bans or supports a product you can bet your pension that Big business, not big government, will benefit handsomely. The FDA is a tool nothing more. Republicans should worship the ground the FDA clears for the GMO ground they plant on.
Pretty much all of the above. They do the bidding of the biggest businesses. They are not independant organizations when each new President gets to hand pick who will steer the cash flow. Then they turn around and become advisors for the same types of companies making even more cash at our expense. It's not even conflict of interest.
Yes, those high-paying positions afforded to former government "regulators" with the same companies they were "regulating," is somehow not even conflict of interest. Peace!
Can anyone help me. I thought the country of origin of products was to be printed on product. My fungicide tainted O J never listed a foreign country. Well I'm not drinking any of these liar juices; Now I juice my oranges which list country of origin; that plus a potassium tab should do the trick.
Florida's Natural® is grown and made in the USA, so there is no foreign junk in it, at least when you get the type that does not have added vitamins and other stuff . . .
Why does the title of the article say Brazil, but the body of the article clearly states that Canada had more shipments detained? Is there some bias here?
This is what happens when we import food/drink items from countries that do not have the same safety regulations that America has. Regulations keep us safe!
I agree and disagree with you. Some regulations, agreed, do keep us safe. These regulations are the smart, carefully considered ones. But not all regulations were enacted with equal amounts of forethought. Some in fact can be very dangerous. Take aspirin for example, that was once regulated in such a way that made it illegal for the company to promote the benefit of the drug when dealing with heart attacks. It's estimated thousands, some say tens of thousands, of lives could've been saved in the decade or so it was banned. It's an interesting read: http://eng.am/uUSSac
Simply put, some regulations are economical, some political and some are simply for the public's good.
Bravo to Coca-Cola for reporting the contamination as they did. The FDA would not have found it in their own, which is a real shame. Here's a great article, which I shared above in another comment, but I believe could help clear up some of your questions: http://bit.ly/AfWE
You should never turn your back on O.J.!

If it doesn't pose a safety issue, why is it banned? Fungicide resistance?

While I don't doubt your assertion, I thought that it was the FTC that is a tool - or was that the SEC.

Vitamins and minerals tend to come from Red China these days, so it is best to avoid supplemented and enhanced stuff, really . . .
Really! :-)
