I actually have to do a debate on this for my health cluster class. I think a big issue with this is who the fetus belongs to. It can't belong to the mother or father because they didn't want the child so they shouldn't have the right to say the fetus can't be used for transplants. I strongly believe abortion is wrong in everyway but, if the fetus is able to contribute to a life saving procedure or is able to help further research on a specific disease, I think that is something that should be enacted. The fetus may have had to lose it's ability to life but at least it can help save someone elses. It's incredible to think that this boy has lived due to that. I still breaks my heart to think that those who do go through an abortion don't realize that they've deprived an innocent child of a life of incredible oppurtunities. The aborted child doesn't have a voice so we need to be the voice for them and everyone else.
That is so true ! I am a 47 year old Male i have raised 8 children . I Married a woman with 6 kids . It was and still is a struggle but i love them all. When i was younger i got .my girl friend pregnant and i thought i loved her i was only 17 . But she had a abortion and it really tore me up inside and still does when i think about it. I think that males should have a say on the abortion also. Women can get pregnant and get a abortion without the father even knowing.were is the fairness in that? I also believe that people who don't pay there child support should have stiffer sentences.
I completely agree with you. Males should have a say in the abortion. Although I feel abortions are wrong, both of the child’s parents should have a say in it. My debate had this one guy who has to have an opposite opinion on EVERYTHING had said, "Your encouraging abortions by saying the fetus should be used for research and cures." I said, “You do realize abortions are legalized right? Over 1.2 million of them happen a year in the U.S. alone. Abortions are going to continue to happen until it is made illegal. If you’re going to tell me I'm wrong for saying that those who are aborted can't be used to save those who actually get a chance at life then you can talk to Congress about making abortions illegal." That left everyone speechless. I didn't think I'd get so worked up about the topic myself, let alone talk as much as I did, but I think we all have something that makes us feel like we need to stand for and defend our opinion and I think I did justice to that.
As in donating organs, this is a decision left to the individual, or the family. The only solution to this dilemma, is to allow only the parents to make certain decisions. This could be done by defining shared DNA. Ultimately, in either case, the parents have the responsibility to make these decisions, unless they are not competent to do so. Third parties should be restricted, including states, unless highly unusual circumstances exist. The information about this type of medical procedure should be highly confidential, and heavy penalties for releasing such information.
