The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment.
Ha, Ha! People like that shouldn't have jobs. The level of ignorance, intolerance, and bias that went into the attack on planned parenthood would have justified her being fired (in my opinion).
I think most third trimester abortions should be banned, women should be counseled before any abortion, all a woman's expenses should be paid by taxpayers if she agrees to have the child, but if, and only if, taxpayers pay for the abortion if the woman decides to have it.
Put you money where your mouth is. Where are the free pregnancy avoidance clinics? The free prenatal care clinics? The free facilities for the woman to live while she completes the pregnancy? The free STD education and avoidance support? I called into an anti-abortion telethon and offered $1,000.00 if they would mention birth control......... I hope you people burn in hell for not doing what you can to prevent the "murders" you believe are being committed.
You've left your stain on the Susan G Komen Foundation that will be difficult to remove in years hence, if ever, and the stench remains in its fabric forever.
Planned Parenthood is promoting "liberal" sex with 10 yr. old girl scouts? I hope you are making a joke. If not it shows an unbeleivable amount of ignorance and or brainwashing.
President Downgrade: Are you what is known as a troll? If not, please provide info on where you got this crap about PP promoting "liberal" sex with 10 year old Girl Scouts.
@ Presidential Downgrade -- OMG, I can't stop laughing! Some beliefs are so absurd they are funny. Unfortunately, you probably believe this as gospel because someone on Fox "News" mentioned it or you heard it CBN.
Downgrade - checked your reference. So in your mind if the girl scouts donate a percentage of cookie sales to an organization the promotes women's health they are promoting sex with 10 year old girls? You are one sick puppy! Better head back to FOX, too much truth will hurt you.
OH no....the link has been deleted !!! How convenient for right wing trolls.......probably came from the crazy Glenn Beck who is hiding in his multi million dollar complex in Texas still spouting that crap on the net.
Yeah!! Horrayy! Go planned parenthood! Kill Babies! Save breasts!
Seriously there is no rational person that could hold these two views together: 1. I want to support womans health and their access to breast cancer screenings so that I CAN SAVE THIER LIFE. 2. I want to support and provide access to abortions that kill little girls. DOES ANYONE NOT SEE A CONTRADICTION HERE???? And you think your ideas are progressive? If that is progressive I don't want any part of it.
How is it that everyone "lumps" conservatives together? Are all liberals socialist marxists? Some are including this president but I believe most so called "liberals" love this country and will protect the freedom we enjoy.
I believe our constitution protects us all from the left and the right and I also support Planned Parenthood and a woman's right to privacy under the constitution.
We have no choice then to consider what this president has done and what he actually advocates. The stripping of the constitution for his Affordable Healthcare Act Mandate and now invading the religious rights of 70 million Catholics and tens of millions more!
If we stand by our constitution it will stand by and for us all.
Guys...its not that hard...everyone knows Planned Parenthood has a connection with the girl scouts and they handed out pamplets to 10 year old girl scouts......it's not hidden or even that hard to do..so stop making this a political thing. Google girl scout planned parenthood connection.
For 14 years, the Girls Scouts of Waco, Texas, co-sponsored a sex-education conference with Planned Parenthood featuring a book written by a member of Planned Parenthood’s Board of Advocates titled, “It’s Perfectly Normal.” This charming tome, given to Girl Scouts in attendance (some as young as 10), replete with graphic sketches of sex organs and techniques, tells kids that abortion can be a “positive experience.”
What has Girl Scouts headquarters in highest dudgeon, however, is the revelation that their “girls only” meeting at the United Nations included a sex book by Planned Parenthood. The meeting occurred during the annual Commission on the Status of Women in 2010 and the book, “Healthy, Happy and Hot” had tips for kids such as this one: “Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse. … But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex. There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!”
Please check out the article--this is a discussion of Planned Parenthood tactics not trolling. The above is one quote.
woodrow, the contradiction is in your head. No sense trying to enlighten you on matters, as you'd skew them anyway. Might as well really blow your mind and tell you Mormon's believe they can go back to a Polygamy 'way of life' after they die and go to heaven.
Listen to all of you self-righteous, hypocritical people.
Do you know the woman personally? I highly doubt it. Do you KNOW what her motivations were? Again, highly doubtful. But don't let that stop you all from maligning her, making this about politics or anything else negative that your pathetic little minds can come up with.
According to the board, they wanted to avoid the controversy that surrounds Planned Parenthood. I would say that's perfectly understandable. Considering all of the controversy that DOES surround them, whether you agree with them or not, wanting to avoid becoming part of that controversy makes a certain amount of sense.
But I guess that kind of logical reasoning is above most of you.
Just further proof that the human race is terminally stupid and there will never be a cure. Your emotionalism trumps intelligence everytime. And people wonder why the world is so screwed up. Just look in the mirror sometime and you'll see the reason why.
That Obamacare rant won't hunt. There is absolutely noting in the AHA that invades the "religious rights" of anyone. It does say that if the Usual and Customary Practice (UCP) in a state is to provide free or paid birth control (including birth control pills and condoms) that all "acceptable" health plans must do so. Places like Catholic Hospitals had long pocketed that extra money under the "assumption" that their employees did not practice birth control. Now they have to provide it if it is asked for by the employee.
What that means is that Catholic organizations can no longer try to use their health care insurance plans to force their religious practices on non-believing Catholics or non-Catholics as they have done in the past. This is generally called religious freedom.
My wife once worked for a Catholic hospital. She had serious dysmennorhea (sp?) and required birth control pills to regulate it. The hospital would not pay for the pills and refused to pay for several D&C's and the eventual surgery (a partial hysterectomy) to correct the problem. That's what the AHA is trying to correct. Even most Republicans support the requirement in the AHA.
And besides 78.9% of all women favor fully available birth control including abortions. 82.5% of all Catholic women favor the same. So it is a fairly easy assumption that Catholic organizations are trying to use their health care plans to thwart the religious freedoms of their employees, not the other way around.
Downgrade, this is indeed disturbing if true. It is the responsibility or the public to do exactly what was done with Komen and point the errors of any organization out to them if the situation calls for it. I cannot imagine anyone of sound mind advocating such trash to our young children (or anyone).
But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Planned Parenthood is on the whole a provider or services that women need. There's an enormous gap in the safety net for women's health and they make a huge difference.
Fantomdog: Go ahead enlighten me. Tell me how you are your own little God and you sit on the little thrown of your life and decide what is right and wrong, based on YOUR interpretations not any unbiased outside authority. Thats the problem with cultural relativism you lose sight of what is truly right or wrong. I simply believe that "thou thalt not kill" means what it says. Tell me why I am wrong buddy.
@Kyot the President is following the Constitution! I believe it is called the Commerce Clause( (Article I, Section 8, Clause 3). No more free ride off the backs of people who pay their health insurance premiums. "Are all liberals socialist marxists? Some are including this president". DUDE, the emptiness of your claim shows the emptiness of your brain. Did you flunk political science??
downgrade - cite your source, don't just copy and paste from some Catholic propaganda website. I know you won't, because I have verified this story to be completely FALSE. But that is because I take the time to check people's claims before posting - something you do not care to do.
Terrence McKeegan, who makes the claims you assert, is a fundamentalist anti-abortion campaigner who claimed to be in the room at the UN workshop but documentation shows he was not. He's a liar propagating untruths about socially responsible organizations.
If you're not going to post verified FACT, don't bother posting at all.
yes so true... Thou shall not kill.. means just what it says... see, humans have decieded to take these commands that only God laid out for us and make it the way they want it. Thou shall not kill if....a woman just decides she dosent want to be pregnant anymore... its her decision.. no its not, yeah its her decision if she wants to kill a living human being inside her... so sick of people trying to take Gods laws and turn them around into whatever conveniences them... .
I beg to differ. You want ANY solution to your health care issues so that's what we get with ... your words "Obamacare" .. Regardless of your views on healthcare, destroying the US Constitution to do it is just fundamentally wrong. Your wife and yourself should have healthcare that is not dependent on your employer and it should be truly affordable. AHCA is anything but "affordable".
Your hero Obama took the easy way out on this by dumping the responsibility totally on the people of the USA, with a multi trillion dollar liability that's unfunded! There are 2 violations to the US Constitution.. the Mandate and the violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of religion.
Obama should have used his political capital to remove anti trust protections from insurers and promote competition and in stages regulate rates for coverage just like any other "Utility". Instead he "Insured" 30 million new customers for the insurance industry that makes average profits of 27% a year! And he has the nerve to castigate independent businesses for making money... this guy's a pathetic waste.
Good Take your crack pot ideologies and leave this foundation! You have done irreparable damage to its image and bringing your politics into an agency that is supposed to support women's health care, has damaged the non profits own ideologies.
Get lost Karen Handel! Take your right wing agenda and attempt to become a politician or something. This is the best thing that could happen to Komen Foundation, but I doubt if it will save them now.
Dude ... you obviously failed Constitutional Law like your soon to be one term president who has done so much damage with his socialist policies and crony capitalism that we may not see this rectified for decades!
Quoting the commerce clause is laughable by the way. Do you know why we have it? I bet you don't but it wasn't the first assault on the freedoms of this country. The US government basically took away the rights of landowners and farmers to grow the crops they wanted EVEN for their own consumption and required them to buy food they could otherwise grow themselves!
violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of religion.
You don't get it, do you . . . . what has been suggested is that a Religious organization (or business owner) cannot impose their religious beliefs on their employees by offering only health insurance coverage that fits the beliefs of said business "owner". Where is the religious freedom for the employee in this scenario?
This is not about forcing Catholic Hospitals to perform abortions, it's about the workers in those hospitals having the right to health insurance that provides coverage for contraceptives and associated family planning services. Stop and think about the situation if you as a Christian (I suppose) worked for a Jewish business owner who only gave you days off on Jewish Holidays - how would that work for you? Or a Jehovah's Witness boss who refused to provide health insurance coverage that included blood transfusions because it was against his religion?
yes so true... Thou shall not kill.. means just what it says... see, humans have decieded to take these commands that only God laid out for us and make it the way they want it. Thou shall not kill if....a woman just decides she dosent want to be pregnant anymore
roll tide fan,
Oh pleeeeease. Spare us your, hollier than thou LIES.
You actually want us to believe that YOU care about life? Really?
How many unwanted, starving children have YOU taken in? How many have you helped? Over 150 THOUSAND children, in this country, without a home. How many have you helped? Millions of children world wide are dying of hunger. And what the f*** have YOU done?
NOTHING... not a God Damn thing.
Children are dying all over the world, and you don't bat an eyelash. You don't give a flying f*** what happens to them. But when it comes to a fetus which has more in common with a parasite than a self-sustaining life form, suddenly you pretend to care.
Take your fake compassion somewhere else, because you are not fooling anyone. Everyone knows that YOU DO NOT CARE about life after the thing is born. Why don't you go to another one of your Republican conventions and chant "let him die" some more? You hypocrite.
Ah, woodrow. First of all, you're clearly a man. So shut up. Secondly, you are clearly one of the right-wing nutters who espouses the belief that all life is sacred while supporting the death penalty. So who is the cretin? Really, shut up, crawl into your cave full of canned goods and let your mind roam free with the whole barefoot and pregnant fantasy that you live by. Moron.
Handel is just someone with a conscience who could not square the hypocrisy of saving lives on the one hand while promoting the destruction of innocent lives on the other.
It's really quite simple...the ends do NOT justify the means.
@President. I did check out the article and found it to be right wing propaganda that is only reprinted via right wing sources. Truthorfiction traced it back to old emails that simply won't die and labels it 'fiction'. Any time one article is the source of thousands of repeats, with nothing to back it up - it's most likely false. In this case, I believe it most definitely is false.
Oh dieselbug--you can't just go throwing facts in the faces of radical hypocracy!! How dare you assert the "common sense" thinking that you have obviously so much of? The idiots who spew the self-rightous, bigotted, and uninformed comments dont want the facts. They only want the talking points that get them the sick attention they require.
The "Firestorm" was left-wing political supporters, judging from the furious and partisan comments I have read here today and in previous days. The support of Planned Parenthood in a secret meeting in the UN was found out by a woman who had been in a previous meeting before the meeting with the girl scouts. She saw the booklet on sexualiity that was handed out before everyone was told to leave the room. Reports by some girls who had attended the meeting backed it up. PP is the only organization that does not have to report incest, rapes, and prostitution, because they are protected politically by elements of the Democratic Party and ultra wealthy and powerful organizations like the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations
This comment will probably be "collapsed" = Censored, by people who call themselves Liberal, but who have no idea of what true Liberalism is about, which means free thought and discussion.
Brinker hired her, she should leave WITH her, along with the dysfunctional board who clearly do not have their eye on the ball. I'm quite sure a lot of people have lost trust in this organization overall, but it isn't because of Ms. Handel. The Foundation hired her, so to lay the blame all on her is ludicris. She's just the smoke to the BS right-wing fire burning at the top of this organization. I say, "Off With All Of Their Heads!!"
You're right. I don't know her. Beside the fact she has admitted to supporting the move to cut funding, these people do know her:
Komen insiders have said Handel spent months pushing the plan to shift the organization's grant strategy, leading the board to decide to cut off funding for 17 of the 19 Planned Parenthood affiliates in December.
Read the story before you unsuccessfully try to defend a woman who doesn't deserve defending.
Bethany your sarcasm is sophomoric
Dieselbug, we're not talking about some guys with religious beliefs, we are talking about the actual CHURCH Itself lf that IS the religion.
And before you nitwits start congratulating yourselves on your quips you should put things in context. The constitutional issue is the fines against Catholic Charities who employ 70,000 Americans alone would amount to 150 million dollars requiring the members of the Church to pay this or see the entire system go bankrupt. This is nothing less than a Tax on Catholics for the Church's doctrines on reproduction, a part of their faith itself. That's the real issue not religious right wing ideologues.
Ah liberals, the "the party of love and tolerence" what a bunch of hypocrits.
I read through these posts and all it tells me is that liberals are the most self indulgent, self rightous, bunch of self appointed judges, and jurys that chastize and make absurd unsubstantiated assumtions about this woman or on anyone that stands up for personal beliefs that are contrary to their own beliefs.
The venom that is spewed by this bunch of intollerant hypocrits makes, me sick to my stomach.
Kyot and Wizard of Wisdom appear to be the only sane people on this site.
Kyot - so now it's not freedom of religion it's the fine?
The issue is their imposition of religious doctrine on their employees through provision of health insurance that follows Catholic (or any other religious) guidelines. That is NOT freedom of religion - it is the imposition of religion, which is a constitutional violation.
It's got nothing to do with right wing ideologues - you are actually correct - but they are the ones stumping for the Catholic Church on this one. I found it hilarious that Newt Gingrich called the government "Secular" like it was something hideous. The Constitution dictates that the government be independent of religion - is that not the definition of secular?
Just Shaking - liberals are the most self indulgent, self rightous, bunch of self appointed judges, and jurys [sic]
You are misplacing your judgements on who are the intolerant hypocrites. The left is absolutely sick and tired of silently acquiescing to having the ultra-conservatives cram their values and morals down our throats. In case you haven't noticed, we have a right to our values too, and we have a right to express them, as you do; but you ignore them in a most intolerant, vociferous way. You have to get over the fact that this country is NOT a theocracy. If that's how you want to live, Iran is the perfect place for you.
After my first Fib-O-Meter pinned its needle, began smoking, and stopped working up when I entered the George Bush quote, "I'm a uniter, not a divider," some 12 years later, I was ready to test my new, improved Fib-O-Meter 2.0.
When I entered the Karen Handel quote from this article, "Neither the decision nor the changes themselves were based on anyone's political beliefs or ideology," FOM 2.0 emitted a shower of sparks, laughed maniacally and blew itself up!
Oh, well, <sigh> back to the drawing board. Either that, or I stop testing on Republicans' statements.
Just shaking my head.......Why? Because they agree with you? Is that the only reason they are the sane people?
Dieselbug took the time to research the rather stupid belief that PP is advocating any type of abortions to 10 year old girl scouts. I'd say that makes him sane. Several people have managed to debunk additional statements said against PP by checking out the facts. To me, they are the sane ones.
I still believe SGK can do whatever they want with their money...after all, it is donated. What I object to, is that they changed their course once the money was collected, due to a right-wing (and dare I say) nutcase that had her own personal agenda, which has absolutely no place in a charity organization. I would have had more respect for them had they fired her instead of letting her quit, as she has done irreperable damage to the organization, and donations are sure to suffer.
I think people on this site are being kind....this woman has single-handedly stopped millions of dollars of donations that otherwise would have gone to help women everywhere. That alone calls for much worse than the people on this site are saying about her.
President Downgrade is a moron. He probably doesn't even know that the pamphlet that was never given to the Girl Scouts was about HIV. Why the hell would they be talking about HIV with kids that most likely aren't sexually active or have HIV? Get a freaken clue idiot.
They should have abided by their own MISSION STATEMENT instead of being distracted by GOP politics.
They DID. You couldn't have read the article.
The decision was made before she arrived. The decision was according to the charter rules which included not giving to organizations that are being investigated. This is to protect them from allegations of misdirecting funds themselves.
Like any other charity the monies would have been put into another apparently more ethical organization to do the same thing!
OK, bottom line. If the Catholic employers don't want to play by the rules, they can just give up their precious tax exempt status.
Oh, to you conservatives on this vine. If you want to prevent abortions how about pushing for the use of contraceptives? That way, no unwanted babies and fewer abortions. You people do realize that it's the 21st century don't you? Show a little sense for God's sake. This is not the 1800's, stop behaving like it is. Scheese!!
President downgrade... Link to Washington Times...
PD is quoting from the Feb. 6th article in the Washington Times exposing the 14 year connection between Planned Parenthood and The Girl Scouts.
It is very sad that Planned Parenthood's message that "abortion can be a positive experience" has infiltrated the Girl Scouts. As the old proverb says "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." PP knows if they can effectively brain wash our children, they will support them for life.
I am certain that after the explosion at Komen, the Girl Scouts will think twice before they try to cut their ties to PP.
How many times are you going to post this debunked crap? This is part of chain email garbage, nothing more. You can believe it if it floats your boat and makes you feel better about you hatred. Just stop polluting the vine with this garbage.
What I find SOOO good about all of this Komen story is that because people SPOKE UP, and vehemently so, against the proposal to cut off funding to PP, the proposal died, and with it went a very dedicated anti-abortion supporter!! Yeah... once again, personal and religious beliefs have no place in these sorts of decisions, which is a hard thing to do, but it is, what it is. Add to this the total uproar with that group of very scary million moms (or million morons, whichever you choose), who proposed a boycott of JCPenny because of Ellen Degenerase being the spokesperson, and I have faith we are all on the right track, be it democrat, republican, pro-choice, anti-choice, whatever. We are no longer silent... ahhhhhhhhh :)
PD is quoting from the Feb. 6th article in the Washington Times exposing the 14 year connection between Planned Parenthood and The Girl Scouts.
Did you miss the part about it being OPINION from someone that works at the Family Research Council? You people on the right are mentally handicapped. Re-open the damn insane asylums and lock up all these Taliban Right Wing Extremists.
The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment.
And they can't do that without funding Planned Parenthood? You'd have to be a moron to believe that. Did it ever occur to you that they just wanted to stay OUT of this debate altogether? PP has had its share of controversies so you can't automatically account this to "politics". And even if that is the case, so what? When did we become a nation where those with differing opinions were demonized? MANY people on BOTH sides of this debate are despicable losers who somehow feel their opinion has some special value. Hate to break it to you but you're all a bunch of self-important d-bags. Which proves there can be common ground in any debate.
Unfortunatly these days this country only hears from the extreme left and the far right. Neither of these groups really speak for the majority of Americans. I've heard people who call themselves liberals cheerily advocate denying a whole states right to vote in the primary because they don't like the governor. I find it hard to believe that liberals believe in the bill of rights at all. They are for one groups rights but would rather deny everybody if they can't get it their way. I'm glad she resigned I hope the whole organization sinks out of sight. They were decietful in their fundraising and then didn't have the courage to stand for anything when the times got tough.
Karen Handel did the responsible thing, resigned. The fire storm rained down on this organization is totally understandable. Charitable organizations have a responsibility to disburse the funds collected to benefit the intended beneficiaries. Komen's decision to reinstate their funding of Planned Parenthood was the correct thing to do. Mixing politics with their policy will undoubtedly take time to undo the harm caused but I hope everyone realizes the good they have done over the years outweighs this temporary public relations fiasco. The positive result from this situation was an outpouring of donations to Planned Parenthood and the reinstatement of Komen funding, which will make possible even more services for women. Truly a win-win situation.
lonereb - Not sure what your talking about "liberals advocating to deny a whole states right to vote in a primary because they don't like the governor"? I must have missed that. Would that involve Arizona and Gov Brewer? Not that it makes a difference because even if true, they would not have the ability to change that. They would be expressing their right to free speech, am I right, part of the bill of rights. Maybe, Karen Handel resigned because she didn't get her way,eh.
We could have a much more civil, creative and productive society, in the United States of America, if only some among us would learn to mind their own business and to respect the rights of their fellow citizens to live their own lives and make their own decisions about their own bodies, relationships, religious and secular beliefs and personal lifestyles.
It may be worth noting that those of you whom are now so loud, and insistent and self-righteous in arguing that you know what is right for everyone else, and that you therefore have the right to make decisions for others regarding their personal lives, may someday feel differently.
If you ever successfully change our society into one which readily accepts such 'loud mob' intrusions trumping individual rights, ... don't forget that those intrusions will eventually impose upon YOU, and YOUR OWN personal lives. And there may be no one left to defend and speak up for YOUR rights.
Good, don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out lady. Listen, everyone, the "female agenda" is very simple and concise...
1. To be able to sleep with a man, if I so desire.
2. To have access to affordable/dependable BC (your Viagra may be covered but my BC is not) and sexual/reproductive health services.
3. If I fall victim to rape/assault/harassment, to have access to justice that is equivalent to the crime committed against me.
4. If I fall on hard times, most likely due to being a single parent (child support is surprisingly easy to dodge), to have access to reasonable programs that will assist me in regaining my feet and protecting my children.
5. To be paid the same as a male with an equivalent work/educational history, and job. Also, to have access to recourse against employers who fail to do this.
6. If I find myself scared, alone, and pregnant, to be able to make a decision that effects my body and my life (and only MY body and MY life only) without being subjected to name calling or vitriolic, religious based hate. Or any hate for that matter. Specifically from people who have never been in my shoes. And most importantly, to have the same right to make decisions about my body and the same right to privacy as a man.
Enough. Enough invasion of my privacy and my body. You anti-choice people have no legal right, no right at all to make any decisions for me, or block my access to the decisions I choose.
You can't prove, through any credible science, when life begins, ergo any attempt to dictate about contraception or abortion is nothing but an infringement of my rights. Nor does any of your tax money go to abortions.
This isn't left/right, liberal/conservative, Democrat/Republican. This is my body, and only my body (see the above paragraph before you post about the "baby").
For all the religious nut jobs on this thread. I heard mentioned in one bombastic pontification, 'facts' concerning the 'actual CHURCH'. Okay then. How about we examine some 'facts' in relation to the 'actual CHURCH'. Let's start with the inquisition, which burned anyone at the stake who didn't want to follow the church's brainwashing. That's a fact. Then there's the destruction and genocide of countless indigenous cultures and their ways of life in the 'actual CHURCH'S' bloody march across the americas. That's a fact. And then, we come to the modern 'actual CHURCH'. You know, the one with unknown numbers of costumed pedophiles under it's loving protection. That's a fact as well. And if women are 'forced' to be given access to birth control and other reproductive rights, why, that might limit the number of young people these protected pedophiles have access to, and they certainly can't infringe on the pedophiles god given rights, now can they? So there's a few facts about the 'actual CHURCH' for your enlightenment. Now, religious nuts, here's a fact about me you all should know. I am a liberal, proud and true. Got that? Good, Now, get this. If you religious nuts should ever be foolish enough to poke your lunatic noses into any of my family members bedrooms or reproductive decisions, you had better remember what your lunatic noses looked like. So just take Sarah's advice. You'll be more likely to keep your lunatic noses that way.
wonderful news! no doubt this woman and her type will again bubble-up to the surface with their ideology. this has never been about anything but the "turn your back" on health concerns for the people of this country. What's next on the right wing list of attacks the SPECIAL OLYMPICS!
No more pink ribbons for my wife and I, it's been a pleasure. The fight for a cure has turned into the fight for an ideology. We thought we were supporting women's reproductive freedom...
We are looking forward to supporting Planned Parenthood and as a matter of fact; we will increase 5 fold donations to this organization that supports women's right to choose.
We also support them because through all the mambo jambo stuff over the years; they have been steadfast in providing support and care for ALL women, irreespective of party affiliation.
Lastly, Planned parenthood is not run by extremists...enough said
yeah it is a womens right to choose, choose to kill her baby...sorry, but you can say it any way you wish to make it sound better but that is what it is.. peroid. send more money to these places hope it makes you feel real good. that millions of infants are dying becasue of your generous gifts...
Im with ,docHollyday I never going to donate for the pink ribbon again, instead I SEND MY CHECK FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD :
GOOD BYE, MIDDLEMEN.
Yes, Komen reversed course and Karen Handel might be out of the picture,
but the fact remains that their bylaws have not changed.
SINGLE QUESTION FOR roll tide fan : HOW MANY KIDS HAVE YOU ADOPTED ? none, stay out of other people's life. Mind your own. If you believe in God, those women are going to answer for her action before God, NOT YOU. I bet you are going to answer for them. God bless you dear.
so if a man wastes sperm by masturbating or blocking it with a condom, he is "killing" sperm(half the makeup of a living fetus or a fertilized egg)?
How about if the baby is severely deformed or brain damaged, and will need to be on a respirator for "life" after being born. Is it wrong to terminate the pregnancy?
So, the truth is that Ms. Handel did indeed campaign to change the organizations bylaws to exclude Plan Parenthood from the Grants. Unfortunately her departure will not undo the damage already done to the Komen Foundation and the efforts it supports. This was nothing but pure political engineering to fundamentally change the Komen charity to one dictated by the Conservatives.
While I fully believe she needed to be fired (or resign, WHATEVER), the fact remains that this organization has cowered down to political pressure from the right wingnuts and if they've done it once, they'll do it again. They made this woman a scapegoat and now they think all will be hunky-dorey.
NOT EVEN CLOSE. SGK WILL NEVER SEE A PENNY FROM ME AGAIN. You're all crooked and riddled with your own agendas. You don't give a rat's behind about women at ALL, or this awful woman wouldn't have been hired in the first place.
You're a has-been Brinker... tell THAT to the plastic surgeon who is doing you one disservice after another, every time you inject your face and lips. You're 65... grow up and act like it.
American Lobo, there are some extreme right wingers that do believe that masturbating is against Church policy and that those men should be condemned.
The argument about covering birth control for women working for Catholic (and other churches) agencies is an old one. I heard quite a while back that the Catholic based health insurance plans cover getting prescriptions for Viagra. The argument for birth control coverage started at that time.
As for Komen, I am glad that Handel is no longer a part of the organization, but the damage is done. She has set them back many, many years. I have read that Brinker is also anti-abortion, but she did not push her agenda into her charity. The money from Komen went to fund mammograms, not abortions. I don't know why the article said Handel was "soft" on abortions. I heard from a relative in Ga. that she was going to make it illegal to have one for any reason. By the way, I wonder if she really resigned or was asked to resign, not that it really makes a difference. Good riddance to bad trash!!
Never ceases to amaze me that all the right, righteous "christians" are so gung ho on the death penalty and war (based on greed) and yet so worried about a fetus. Makes no sense.
As for Karen leaving Komen...Good riddance. My money will no longer go to the Komen folks. Planned Parenthood has been around for a long time and have proven that they are in it for the health of women.
"why do we kill people, who kill people, to show that killing people is wrong"
It looks like the Komen chairty is the loser both ways. Those who support Planned Parenthood are not going to donate to them and those of us who do not support Planned Parenthood's aboration clinics will no longer donate because Komen caved to the radical left wingers.
roll tide fan: Really, the Old Testament...The 10 commandments.. When God created the stones with the 10 commandments they were for the living to abide by. You cannot kill you fellow human beings. Living human beings. Read the 10 commandments again. God was not interested in the unbeings. No where in the Bible does it state that abortion is against his word.
Go take a breather, you wil feel better.
Even Jesus said "Suffer not the little children for they belong to me". Children not fetuses. So once a child is born they should not suffer. The TP/Republican right wing sure let that one slip thru their fingers.
Now, back on track. I want to know how much of the donated money went to pay off Handel. Never, Never again will I support Komen. All Brinker did was cause her sister to cry pink tears from heaven. Shame.
What we need Christians to do is study up and learn what it really means to serve the Lord and not yourselves. Most of this "I've got a cause" stuff is about the person with the cause, and not about glorifying God. There are few if any real Christians in this country. Most have been infected by a generation of preachers who care only about enlarging their money temples and fleecing the flock for a few more bucks.
wonderful news! no doubt this woman and her type will again bubble-up to the surface with their ideology. this has never been about anything but the "turn your back" on health concerns for the people of this country
Says the pot to the kettle. I am pro-choice myself but I have the ability to respect that others feel differently. Those of you who believe that only YOUR opinion matters and that everyone who thinks differently is somehow "wrong" are friggin pathetic losers no matter which side of the debate you are on.
Sorry, but it is too little, too late. The organization is riddled with people who insist on their right to make choices for others. They are usurped the purpose that we all supported for their own agenda.
What a geat misunderstanding or purposeful misrepresentation! Pro-choice does not mean Pro-abortion. I myself would choose not to have an abortion but it is not up to me to make a reproductive decision for another. Pro-life groups are generally Conservatives and Republicans who are for little or no gov't involvement in an individuals daily life so why interfere with an individuals personal freedom of choice ?
Pro-life groups are generally Conservatives and Republicans who are for little or no gov't involvement in an individuals daily life so why interfere with an individuals personal freedom of choice ?
I'll start off by saying that I agree with your persepective on the issue. As to your question, many of those who are pro-life consider the "child" to be a person with rights also. That's what it boils down to for many, does the fetus also have "freedom of choice"?
This is america or I thought it was believe what you believe and support it but others have the right to believe their way and support that. Don't make yourself more powerful by denying rights to others. Quit the namecalling if you want me to listen to your side because I got bored with that behavior 50 years ago.
A sperm, if left alone, is not capable on its own of growing arms and legs and walking around. A fetus or fertilized zygote WILL eventually grow into a fully functioning human being, assuming it is healthy. In my opinion extremely disabled fetuses and such should only be aborted if they will not have a quality of life that falls into the 'good or tolerable' category, but to just kill them for the sake of 'I didn't feel like giving birth' is ridiculous and 'morally' corrupt. Your comment makes you seem like the type to not give that much value to human life.
I'll bet you're one of those people who are quick to jump through hoops to save the lives of murderers and rapists in our prison systems and starving people in third world countries who will never contribute anything to humanity except for AIDS and other diseases. Yeah let's throw millions of dollars at literal wastes of life and poke clothes hangers through the heads of the truly innocent...
I'd be very interested to hear your opinions on humanity in general do you reguard all life so insignificantly or do you just hate fetuses?
I'd never even consider aborting a healthy fetus(if I was a woman). Rape, incest or health problems for the mother are valid reasons (IMO). When my wife got pregnant(she was my girlfriend of 5 months at the time), I never gave abortion a thought for even 1 second. I wouldn't choose it, but I'm not arrogant enough to believe I have the right to tell others what to do with their own bodies.
My version of punishment for murderers and rapists is more hardcore than most. Rapists would be castrated or given over to others to be raped. Murderers and serial killers would be executed(if there was DNA evidence/a confession, and/or more than one eyewitness). All prisoners would do labor jobs, pick fruits and vegetables or do other grunt work(to earn extras like tv time or treats).
I believe in medically assisted suicide for the terminally ill(if they choose it).
I don't throw food away, because I know there are many who would love to have access to thrown away food.
I just don't believe in telling a woman she can or can't have a baby. I believe BOTH parents need to be included in the decision.
lol, I don't ASSume, I was merely asking your thoughts. If I had formed a solid opinion about your views then I wouldn't have bothered to ask...and I agree with you on pretty much everything you just said. Unfortunately most pro abortionists on this site are as extreme if not more so than the religious zealots...I say it should be for the parents decide as well, just not for stupid reasons like they don't bother to use birth control, etc.
Now, if the Board members, who went along with the decision, also resign that would be a move in the right direction to stop the free fall. I am not sure anything can save their reputation at this point. Too little, too late.
The Susan G. Komen outfit was already seeing their contributions slipping dramatically. A lot of this came from a) their attempts to monopolize virtually all breast cancer research donations and b) their incredibly insensitive and misguided lawsuits against other breast cancer fundraisers.
The slipping donations were a prime reason in their shift in strategy to ally themselves with the far right and BOTH anti-abortion and anti-birth control and pro-personhood forces. Unfortunately they chose a group already notorious for its lack of charitable giving --- the radical right.
If you look at Komen objectively, they were actually reducing the amount of donations going to actual breast cancer research. Prior to Komen, about 80 cents of every fundraising dollar went to actual research. Komen's overhead is so high that it actually reduces that under 70 cents of each dollar. Komen scores high with Charity Navigator because it considers the cost of its hundreds of lawsuits as "program expenses." If you move the cost of the lawsuits from program expenses to administrative overhead, you see a much truer picture.
These lawsuits have been over the use of a particular shade of pink or any use of pink in connection with cancer (not just breast cancer) or any use of the word "Cure" in a fundraiser. They have sued a lady who lost her mother and had a small run "for the cure" which sold pink t-shirts. The lady had donated all the proceeds (not just the profits) to the NICR -- about $6,000. Komen sued her for $184,000 and won. They have sued golfers for "Par for the Cure" and a local television station for "NBC13 for the Cure." Surfers for "Surf for the Cure: and the USMC for allowing pink t-shirts as uniform of the day on Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
If you give a dollar to Komen, you are actually giving about 13 cents to crooked lawyers to sue legitimate tiny charities so that people who try to do something worthwhile end up losing their savings and homes.
Personally, since the lawsuits started, I don't give to Komen. Because Charity Navigator is so lenient with them their cache is pretty much gone as well. There are plenty of ways to give to cancer research where every dime goes to actual research with not a dime to high executive salaries and crooked lawyers.
I am sorry but any "charity" that can turn the whole country from MLB, NFL fields and have whole lines of apparel, sports cups, other assorted "junk" and have huge corporate donors, athletes and celebs giving to you is nt hurting for anthing but has rather become one become commercial racket if you ask me. I stopped giving to United Way years ago through payroll deductions for the same reason after finding what adminstration salaries were at the organizaton along with many where I worked who followed suit.
We donated to causes in our own communities and state instead where you could "see" where your money was going. Felt much better too. Too sick now to give much anymore and struggling everyday myself.
daradar - you did not read the article. The decision was made by the board before she came that day. She was the public realtions person - not the policy maker. The organization was following it's stated mission which is to not give money to any organization that is under federal investigation.
I have found out that what Chris749391 wrote is true. Someone I work with in very involved with Relay for Life and numerous groups have been sued by the Susan G Komen Foundation and had all monies that were raised for cancer reseached taken from them. Please find other groups to either donate time or money to. This organization is no longer a charity but a business.
Im thinking its not the gaffe that put this great organization in peril. Its the 25 to 30% liberal/progressives in this country that did. I'm a registered Independent and have in the past voted and supported democratic presidents. Not in this day and age. Ahhhhhh a charity is a business. A nonprofit business but a business none the less.
Now, if the Board members, who went along with the decision, also resign that would be a move in the right direction to stop the free fall. I am not sure anything can save their reputation at this point. Too little, too late.
No, their reputation can not be saved but it has absolutely NOTHING to do with "too little, too late". It's all about damned if you do, damned if you don't. Because there are too many people who don't give a shti about the good this foundation does if they aren't going to support THEIR side in this debate, whichever side that may be. Those of you bitching about Komen pulling their support for PP are NO BETTER than those who condemned them for supporting PP. Just the flip side of the same fcked up, self-righteous coin.
Their reputation is in shreds because they unnecessarily inserted themselves into abortion politics. Any organization with the size and sophistication of SGK has no excuse for failing to foresee the uproar any change in policy toward Planned Parenthood would cause.
They made their change and then were caught utterly unprepared by the backlash. At the very least, this is breathtaking ineptitude. Funding for Planned Parenthood is among the hottest of hot button wedge issues.
Negative publicity for sure, but publicity none the less.
They may have temporarily raised money from abortion opponents, but the longer term damage is yet to be seen. Many abortion opponents won't give them any more money after the flip flop, and many neutral and pro-choice advocates have stopped giving to them because of the decision to stop giving to PP.
They could be very screwed in the mid to long run, hard to tell.
Kathryn what that says is that neither side trusts them not that your side is more powerful. Pro-choice won't donate to them because they don't trust them and pro-life won't donate because they give to PP. Time to get out of the way SGK.
Good for her for standing up for her beliefs. i'm sick of te PC run amock in the country. i, for one, didn't even know that Komen donated to P.P. and am sure many othere didn't know. I ususally donate to the American Cancer Society and have never donated to Komen but now wouldn't for sure.
PP is nothing more than an abortion mill and wouldn't exist without them. That is their primary function with a few other things thrown in to hide the fact.
abortion mill. I guess some people get thier 'facts' from the right wing rhetoric and the opinions of the right wing talking heads instead of finding the actual facts.
Less than 3% of what Planned Parenthood does is abortions.
They do quite a bit of work to PREVENT abortions by education, women's health care and family planning (the good kind of family planning).
They provide all kinds of women's health care with the 97% of the money they get.
It's amazing how many people care so little about saving women's lives yet they demand that baby's lives are saved instead.
I'm not pro-abortion, but I am pro-truth and honesty. When we argue about something, let's use facts, not rhetoric and lies.

You are so off-base that it isn't funny. Your hatred, manifested by the hate-groups in the U.S. (Fox Channel, Evangelicals and Christianity in general), is despicable. If only I could pull you out of that "box" you live in and show you the real world with real people, you might change your tune, provided of course that your deep-seated hatred isn't too ingrained into your heart--that is, if you have a heart.
You don't know what you're talking about. PP is a place for women who couldn't afford it otherwise to get health exams and birth control. I know because I've used them for those services when I didn't have insurance, but I never had an abortion there!
Ed: For every Taliban wanna-be such as yourself...there's are hundreds of others who will now donate to planned parenthood DIRECTLY to make sure you and your ilk stay irrelevant. Take your burka somewhere else.
Planned Parenthood might well become the only place for abortion services if the religious american taliban gets it way to restrict access as has been done in state after state........more reason to keep it funded and available.....
Ed: Big difference, I donated. And I despise a frustrated candidate trying to impose her failed political agenda into an institution that was designed to protect people. Blame on her for being politically greedy and blame on SKG for allowing it. It is your freedom to donate to whatever charity you want, but please do not try to patronize us in what is right or wrong when you never had interests vested on the organization. Those of us who had interests were fed up with that type of attitude.
Hmmmmm Yeah thats right get ED!!! Where's my pitchfork so that I can join the rest of you??
Yeah Ed is the bad guy because he doesn't like abortions. Wow. So what you are really saying is that because Ed doesn't like it when babies get scrambled up in their mother's uterus he is somehow the bad guy? And Hey Daryl: Lets draw lines in the sand. You be on the side with Margaret Sanger and I guess I will be on the side of someone who holds a "christain worldview". Yeah those "christian laws" like love your neighbor, turn the other cheek, serve those in need, and walk in humility really sound crazy and scary at this point.
Yeah those "christian laws" like love your neighbor, turn the other cheek, serve those in need, and walk in humility really sound crazy and scary at this point.
Everyone is allowed to have their opinion but when you come down to it , the decision is the woman's to make and no one else!! This is the law that has been fought for by both women and men to be passed and it was. Now you have the religious right trying to over turn it and take women back years, back to when they had to go back rooms to be able to have an abortion. To claim FPPA is nothing but an abortion mill is ludicrous and inaccurate. FPPA is where a lot of women, and even men, go to be able to get birth control medical exmaninations, pap smears, prenatal visits, HIV & STDS testing, referrals for mammograms, and much more. YOu have the religious lunatics that bombard the public with inaccurate facts trying to whip up fear and frenzy with people that are not well informed with the facts. These are the same groups that want all brith control banned and have even put out inaccurate facts about brith control to put fear in people. The teenagers and young adults need somewhere to go where they can get the straight facts about birth control, HIV, STDS, etc. They need to be educated so that they will make right decisions which in turn will bring down the cases of unwanted pregnancies, HIV & STDS. Before I get the rightwings yelling about Abstinance, I hate to break the news to you but the younger generation is having sex, granted not all of them, but the majority are and I feel it is important that they learn from a responsible adult about what they can do to avoid unwanted pregnancies besides crossing their legs because that sure doesn't work for kids. Handel had an agenda and the agenda was found out. She was working for Komen that helps other orginizations and she used her influence to force an orginization that she did not like to be cut from the funds Komen was handing out because of the claim that Idiot Republican in Fl stating the govermetn was investigating FPPA for using funds from the government for abortions, WHICH IS NOT TRUE!! FPPA has not been using government funds for abortions, there is document proof as to where all the government funds went that were given to FPPA and if you don't think the government keeps a close eye on those funds you are sadly mistaken. I hope FPPA will always been there to help people out when they need it.
daryl it not the christian right restricting free speech in this country but the extreme left. It's not the right that forces institutions into closing because they can't in good conscience follow your rules. Better get ready to run a lot of hospitals because the catholic church won't bow to the extreme left. The universities will probably have to stop accepting Pell grants and other federally financed tuition plans to keep their autonomy but what do you care about the kids on those plans.
So true! They work sooooo hard to prevent abortion, but then cut funding when those children are born to parents who are ill able to take care of them! As Mitt Romney said... "I'm not worried about the poor..."
Right on! Conservatives have no compassion for the living. Every day they tell women in particular that they are godless, lazy, and babykillers. I'm amazed that Americans haven't been listening. I left the religious right and the Republican party more than 30 years ago because I heard them loud and clear.
The extent of the hypocrisy of these people has no limit. They are the ones who defend the sanctity of life but then when they speak about a child born to an illegal immigrant will not hesitate to throw the kid out the window...
Wanda and Justice for all- Welcome back to earth and thank you for tuning into MSNBC. If what you are spewing makes you feel better about yourselfs that is one thing but you can't be farther from reality. Do you really think conservatives have no compassion??? That is such ridiculous propoganda. "Justice for all" there is a difference between a need to fix illegal immigration and the sanctity of human life. I just needed to let you know.
Conservatives only talk about the sanctity of life as LONG AS IT DOESN'T COST THEM MONEY. If it costs them any money then they don't care about any living person. That is why they refuse to help poor children. IT COSTS THEM MONEY. Once that baby pops out of the mother they could care less and want them out of sight and out of mind
Religious Conservatives are EVERYTHING Jesus preached AGAINST in the bible. They are just your typical religious hypocrite.
Woodrow: I absolutely know that they have no compassion. I absolutely know that conservatives are hypocrites. I do not lie to myself... Explain me the difference then when you adamantly protect life but then you claim that all children born to illegals should be stripped of their rights given by the constitution and be deported with their parents. If that is not hypocrisy, then you need to buy a new dictionary, they one they sold you was defective...
woodrow the reason so many people like wanda and I have no use for the right is that you have shown a complete lack of compassion. If you don't want that stigma than I suggest the right do something to prove that you do have one shred of compassion. Because as the saying goes actions speak louder than words.
Neko how true, there is no compassion with alot of the right wing they scream that abortion and birth control is wrong but yet when that child is born and the mother asks for help she ends up being slapped in face and being told well you shouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place. FOLKS YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!!
So true. They want more children born unto parents that can't afford food and healthcare yet they want to take away "food stamps" and the help that these women need. I can't believe that they right can't see that. It is absolutely disgusting.
Who is they ??? Those that disagree with your "take" on life ?? Wow !? Disgusting ? I feel sorry for those that have had another opinion other than yours throughout your life ... You must have alot of friends ??? What a self absorbed A-HOLE !!
Really, tankera?! Look up/ do a search, like Christian homes for unwed mothers, orphanages, etc. (if you dare), and you'll see how incredibally FALSE your statement actually is!
No JW, I am talking about the conservative repubs. They don't want to pay for the kids that are already here. Complaining about food stamps and medicare and not wanting to pay for it...yet you want more people on the planet? Peace
Komen has been exposed as a political entity. Handel was hired by someone who knew what her views and focus was and would be. Its good that she is gone but it really doesn't make this go away. This was not a rogue VP. I still don't trust Komen and really can't envision the circumstances that will change my mind. Give donations for research and patient screening and support elsewhere.
I can hear the hypocrisy screaming from these pages! I want my right to choose, but you don't get the same rights!!! All for me! All for me! Do what I say! I deserve the right to choose what to do with my body, but, oh wait!!! I also want the right to tell you what to do with your very valuable CANCER RESEARCH money! I want the right! You don't get rights! You are all hypocrites and should be ashamed of yourselves.
I want the right to get my money back if the organization I donated it to does a flip flop and decides it is not for women's health, but for rightwing republican radicals investigating a thriving women's healthcare system for the umpteenth time.
Hallelujah!! Now if we could just get resignations from the rest of the board perhaps Komen could regain a shred of the dignity and respect it used to enjoy. I, for one, will still never donate to them again as the wording of their retraction leaves the situation quite open and unresolved (sure, Planned Parenthood can *apply* for the funds but that doesn't mean Komen will give the money to them!).
I did notice that MSNBC didn't print the entire AP article (you can read it on the AP site). Inside information from the Dallas headquarters proved that not only did Handel directly support the change in policy but that she came into the foundation with exactly that in mind knowing full well that this was already a topic of discussion at the highest level of the board before she even signed on. In other words, this was a move Komen had already been planning and they probably hired Handel to implement it for them - the biggest reason not to ever trust them, again.
Exactly, so to they "reversed their decision" is BS. Komen is just completing their obligation the finish out THIS year of funding. People really need to READ and comprehend or LISTEN better to what they're hearing. You know that "gray convoluted matter" in your HEAD folks is called and the many things it is supposed to DO?
Now put away the Ipods, Kindels, Ipads, Phones and all the other gadgets that have ten million "apps" because your brain actually did these things TOO ONCE. Note: I myself choose own none of these toys because A: I don't want any. B: I can't afford them anyway
C: Even if I could, there is only so much crap a person should have before they become a complete "idiot".
D: I became a reluctant computer owner two years before Dubya left office-FACT
It looks like Khomeini just hired Handel to take the blame in case this blew up in their faces. Their "reversal" is totally meaningless, bu they may reread the tea leaves before dumping PP next year. But, really, it is hard to know for sure what was going on at Khomeini HQ because they're such a bunch of habitual liars.
PP is nothing more than an abortion mill and wouldn't exist without them. That is their primary function with a few other things thrown in to hide the fact.

Keep up the good fight, Kathryn, you are going to need to.... I just heard the Republican front-runner this morning in his own voice call birth control "abortive pills". Are you friggin' kidding me? So when I wear a rubber, I'm committing abortion?? This is only getting started, but I'm glad this ruckus with Komen has shone a light on the intentions of the ( I honestly don't know what words to insert here ) fringe.....
Komen broke a sacred trust in my opinion. The Komen decision revealed an open secret. With the power to make law, conservatives seek to push women back into the dark ages.
I will also add that the Taliban gained power with the consent of women. Karen Handle and others like her are not our sisters.
It is so interesting to me how the right wing nutters (like Limbaugh and Santorum) try to make Americans afraid that Sharia law is going to take over America - then they do their best to make women subserviant by limiting or denying our right to make our own reproductive decisions. The only way Sharia law could ever get a foothold in the U.S. is with the assistance of mysoginist fascists like the right-wingers. Way to go women - you ran a beast out of the Komen foundation!!!!!! Continued vigilance is required . . .
Why is it that whenever reproductive rights are an issue, it is almost ALWAYS about the women's bodies and very rarely about the man? I wonder why there is not an uproar over men getting medication for ED, no permission required from the wife, or not a problem from pharmacist if the man is single...but the Church does not want women to have access to birth control or pharmacists (uaually male) do not want to fill birth control prescriptions or morning after med orders? Or teen girls cannot get some birth control or abortions with out parental consent, but I have NEVER heard of a teen age boy being required to bring his mom to buy condems...or health insurance companies not wanting to pay for birth control pills, but will pay for ED meds?
Arrogant and political. Sickening. Our voices are heard. We must use it again as the war on women is continuing and guarantee if Romney or Newt get elected (God forbid) we are screwed, literally and figuratively. Newt has had 3 wives........he is so ethical. Disgusting.
Diverdown1- have you been following the war on the poor (of which the majority are women and children.) This is being pushed by a huge corporatocracy which wants to take over the government to satisfy their own greed. Why do you think unemployment remains high? It certainly isn't the fact that companies are unable to hire, they are purposely choosing not to. They want a puppet in the White House and a content, working, prosperous middle/lower class will not vote for the guy they want. Government cannot force companies to hire, yet the republicans blame government for high unemployment. I find it ironic that "conservatives" want less government UNLESS it comes to personal choices. It pisses me off that corporate America refuses to provide jobs so people can support themselves and then has the cajones to claim the need to lower taxes to stop supporting people who can't work. They can't have it both f'ing ways. They want to stop birth control, abortions and public assistance. Yeah, that makes sense. Claiming that poor people won't work is the same as saying that starving people won't eat.
Alllll right ladies, when women come atcha you better run. I am so proud of all the women who raised holy hell over this. It worked and worked good........now, don't shut those engines down quite yet.........the Catholic Patriarch's have their shorts in a wad over having to play by the same rules as every one else does.........of course their target as always is WOMEN.....we can take them on too.
What i don't get is why folks think it's okay that money donated to an organination trying to eradicate breast cancer, can be spent for anything unrelated, such as Planned Parenthood.
No doubt, this will hurt the original mission of the SGK Foundation by helping planned parenthood. It's a very sad day IMO.
@Jon because Planned Parenthood referred poor or uninsured women for mammograms and other breast health treatments...it is not unrelated, it is directly related.
Kathyrn a bit crude, but so true. Maybe even the rich and religious with sensibilities will understand that we are done with others telling us we don't have a voice. Post after post are testaments of people using PP for other reasons than abortions. For basic rights of testing, contraception and health that only the rich can afford. All women have a voice. Some even choose to think on their own. We don't have to pay a newspaper, network, church or company to get our voice out there anymore. Everything goes in cycles. People have once again a chance to stand up for themselves.
Jon, you do know that there are some women who are both pregnant and fighting breast cancer (or other forms of cancer), aren't you? The money from Komen was not going to the fund for abortions. It was going for mammograms for women who had no other place to go. PP does not only do abortions; that is only a very small part of their work. They provide medical exams and tests for women. Of course, I do not expect to reach you and change your mind. That would be futile and unrealistic.
Woodrow. Go away please. You have no idea what you speak of. That is the kind of mentality that the right has...as well as Karen Handel. Good riddance. Moron.
Every woman here on this forum who believes that they have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies and does not give that same right to choose what to do with their own monies to a Breast Cancer Research Foundation is a two faced hypocrite.
Dear floridamom1- you crack me up. Love the fact that you advocate for the right to choose how to spend money BUT not the right to choose your own destiny. LOL
Yes, i'm sure any and all money donated to PP by the SGK Foundation will be used only for breast cancer related screenings. And i just fell off the turnip truck yesterday.
I am so disappointed in their decision to stop funding Planned parenthood, then because of the back lash, said oooops, they will get funding. I have to agree with the rest of the comments, I can not support Susan G Komen again. To take funding from the women who least can afford it,is unacceptable. Kay Yow, Elizabeth Edwards, Gilda Radner, many other un named faces must be rolling over in their graves. I must wonder what Susan G Komen would think of her sister now?????
What you don't want to do is support an organization that is clearly within their rights to choose where their money will be best spent. You want them to keep funding an organization that you like regardless of their own bylaws and funding requirements. You want to force them to make the choices you want them to make. You and those like you are hypocrites. This is not about a woman's right to choose abortion or birth control or having a mammogram. This is about the right of any organization to choose what to do with their own money. Don't donate to Komen, nobody really cares, because for everyone of you, there are others who will donate simply because Komen is about SAVING LIVES, not about letting you guys spend their money on whatever. YOU are not about SAVING LIVES. Blatant hypocrisy.
You didn't even read the article. Komen is about SAVING LIVES and BREAST CANCER RESEARCH, which Planned Parenthood does even do. So, if they don't fund them, who cares? Why do you care so much? Why do you care who is in charge of a Breast Cancer Research Foundation? You only care because they gave money to Planned Parenthood, which you never even knew they did until this came out in the news. And the reason it came out in the news is that the liberal media just wants to stir up trouble. If you can't see the blatant hypocrisy in making an organization spend money where they don't want to and your right to have an abortion just because it's your own body, then you might want to go back to school or something where you can learn about that type of thing. Hypocrisy!
Once again, politics. Breast cancer, abortion, planning parenthood, gay marriage, religion, and on and on has NOTHING to do with politics. It has to do with control freaks in society trying to make sure we OBEY their will--one way or another. This woman tried to force her will upon all who are associated with Komen and Planned Parenthood.
From the last poll that I saw nearly 90% of those responding were not in agreement with the defunding of PP. 3% were undecided. 7% were for it. I think the numbers speak for themselves. Note to politicians and other control freaks--quit trying to invade our privacy and our lives. We know what we need to do, you don't.
Hello, zapper45701. The fact is, it IS POLITICS/politicians who are insisting on obedience. Laws are passed through legislatures, many of those laws never brought before the voting public by referendum. Those "control freaks" sit in the US Congress, every state and local legislative body salivating at the opportunity to impose their too often myopic and monolithic codes of behavior and morals. The more people fight to give rights to everyone, the more those control freaks fight to keep those rights from occurring; or, worse, reversing them altogether. There has been a movement in this nation for three decades to return to our nation to the "moral dark ages". Odd how it is the likes of a Newt Gingrich who want to take us back, actually to a country that never actually existed. I grew up in the Leave it to Beaver days when the word gay meant only happy, blacks lived in an entirely separate end of the county and Jews were not welcomed or allowed in white "Christian" communities. That's what we really strive for??
You obviously did not read the article. It seems to me that if PP was under investigation (and it was) and that the bylaws prohibited monies given to organizations under investigation, then they did the right thing. But, people like you want the world to do what you want. You want the right to choose what to do, but you do not want to give that right to anybody else. I say that Komen's has THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE what they do with their money and to decide which of their investments help to accomplish the mission of their organization.
floridamom1- obviously YOU did not read the article or do any research. The "investigation" was initiated by ONE Florida politician with pro-life beliefs. There was no official investigation.
VICTORY!! Unfortunately this may have done permanent damage to Komens who now is seen in an adversarial light. Their bad and to the good of Planned Parenthood who gets the spill over in funding!
Still a few kudos to Komens BUT it NEVER EVER should have become an issue! Too many women who need cancer screenings and a cure lose if that is the case. It is about women NOT lies perpetrated by wingnuts about abortion. Abortion as Santorum out and out lied does NOT cause cancer but plenty of other things may.
Susan Komens died and the Walk for the Cure began. I hope Komens now does not suffer from this egregious and utterly STUPID action of the Komen's Vice President Karen Handle who infiltrated a group and with her Republican cronies tried to subvert the good works of Planned Parenthood. Handle is a traitor to the cause of women's health. Good riddance and do not forget to close the door, Karen, on your way out!
You are an idiot. Komen's is a PRIVATE fundraising institution looking to do one thing and one thing only, that is to help defeat breast cancer. Since the majority of work Planned Parenthood does on it's property and with its own people is not in any way shape or form related to BREAST CANCER CURES and RESEARCH, then they shouldn't get the money. But, the reason they were denied was only because they were under investigation. People with thoughts like you are what are wrong with everything in this country. You would rather lose the right to choose what to do with your own money so that you can force your right to choose an abortion on everyone else. Hypocrite.
To hire this women ar ALL just makes clear the political leanings of Komen. They have NO RIGHT to claim the lead in ANY broad based philanthropic movement. Komen is JUST a bunch of right-wing nut-cases flogging their anti-women agenda to the detriment of the cause of curing breast cancer.
KOMEN - GO AWAY. LEAVE THE BATTLE TO SOMEONE THAT REALLY CARES!
Good Riddance!
They should have abided by their own MISSION STATEMENT instead of being distracted by GOP politics.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening, and treatment.
Handel had her OWN agenda.
I hope this is the last we hear from her.
Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!
I'm sure that the internal memo says she's left to spend more time with her family.....
Right-wing politicians make me sick.
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye!!
Brinker is next and then the rest of the executive board.
Dollars to donuts she goes to work for Romney........
Exactly! Good riddance.
Planned Parenthood is even promoting "liberal" sex with 10 year old Girl Scouts.
Haven't the Leftists gone way too far pursuing their perverted agenda?
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Jaybee, amazingly it is true. NV deleted the link to the Washington Times Article. Just google this:
RUSE: Planned Parenthood, Girl Scout cookie monster
Girls' group may regret sex-ed partnership as snack sales suffer
President Downgrade: Are you what is known as a troll? If not, please provide info on where you got this crap about PP promoting "liberal" sex with 10 year old Girl Scouts.
And how do you explain all the Rightist perverts?
@ Presidential Downgrade -- OMG, I can't stop laughing! Some beliefs are so absurd they are funny. Unfortunately, you probably believe this as gospel because someone on Fox "News" mentioned it or you heard it CBN.
President Downgrade - Want to back that claim up with a reference? Or is this more right wing propaganda. A little more red meat for the base?
Please check out the article--this is a discussion of Planned Parenthood tactics not trolling. The above is one quote.
woodrow, the contradiction is in your head. No sense trying to enlighten you on matters, as you'd skew them anyway. Might as well really blow your mind and tell you Mormon's believe they can go back to a Polygamy 'way of life' after they die and go to heaven.
that is the bigges bunch of bat hockey I have ever seen.........can't believe you fell for this piece of crap.
Maybe Handel will get hired as "Newt's" new campaign manager.
Fools.
@Koyt,
That Obamacare rant won't hunt.
That, I doubt. Susan G. Komen was Nancy Brinker's sister.
downgrade - cite your source, don't just copy and paste from some Catholic propaganda website.
Thou shall not kill if....a woman just decides she dosent want to be pregnant anymore... its her decision.. no its not, yeah its her decision if she wants to kill a living human being inside her... so sick of people trying to take Gods laws and turn them around into whatever conveniences them... .
@ Chris
I'll give one month before she pops up as Fox News's newest "contributor". Over-under bets?
U R n Idiot!!!
Kyot:
Or a Jehovah's Witness boss who refused to provide health insurance coverage that included blood transfusions because it was against his religion?
roll tide fan,
Oh pleeeeease.
You all are full of $hit....This only about money and greed...on the left and the right....
Get out!
This woman can start her own charity, called "Out of my mind, sick, and crying for help." Of course, she probably won't do as well as Komen.
Sadly, I suspect she'll earn more than $0, though. There's at least a few people like her out there.
Wizard of Wisdom,
You're right. I don't know her. Beside the fact she has admitted to supporting the move to cut funding, these people do know her:
You are misplacing your judgements on who are the intolerant hypocrites. The left is absolutely sick and tired of silently acquiescing to having the ultra-conservatives cram their values and morals down our throats. In case you haven't noticed, we have a right to our values too, and we have a right to express them, as you do; but you ignore them in a most intolerant, vociferous way. You have to get over the fact that this country is NOT a theocracy. If that's how you want to live, Iran is the perfect place for you.
Well, that's great, just great.
@ JSMH:Fetch a dictionary and a brain. You're severely in need of BOTH pal.
Mozzie, pick a different country as the repubs all want to BOMB Iran!!!
Get a freaken clue idiot.
http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/planned-parenthood-did-not-teach-girl-scouts-how-lead-happy-sex-lives-while-living-hiv
RI Mom
Everything President Downgrade says, he learned from watching Fox News
GOP mantra = Government interferes with liberties too much... this is only acceptable when it comes to a women's uterus and contraception.
how much hypocrisy is too much hypocrisy?
@lilolme
Unfortunately she will probably go into politics.
Did you miss the part about it being OPINION from someone that works at the Family Research Council? You people on the right are mentally handicapped. Re-open the damn insane asylums and lock up all these Taliban Right Wing Extremists.
@RI Mom
The Wizard of Wisdom, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Thanks.
Kyot banned. Out of chances.
The fact alone that they hired this woman speaks volumes. They will not get my support again.
lonereb - Not sure what your talking about "liberals advocating to deny a whole states right to vote in a primary because they don't like the governor"? I must have missed that. Would that involve Arizona and Gov Brewer? Not that it makes a difference because even if true, they would not have the ability to change that. They would be expressing their right to free speech, am I right, part of the bill of rights. Maybe, Karen Handel resigned because she didn't get her way,eh.
President Downgrade banned, rereg of Madison from NY.
lilolme - Same right-wing crap...different post.
If you are a non-dumb man, you'll realize the above list would actually lead to your own life being better as well. Start connecting the dots.
Robert, Sarah & Derek: hear, hear!!
Derek,
That's great, lol. You are a "non-dumb" man and I hope your wife appreciates that. Keep spreading the good word, buddy.
Thturd,
Hear, hear, right back!
gcooper8, sorry about the FOM 2.0.
Good Luck on the new Fib-O-Meter 3.0. I'm sure you'll boost the scale this time.
ROFLMAO
Just Shaking My Head, don't grenade troll please. You are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Excellent! The Komen Foundation never should have hired her in the first place and will be better for her having decided to leave.
wonderful news! no doubt this woman and her type will again bubble-up to the surface with their ideology. this has never been about anything but the "turn your back" on health concerns for the people of this country.
Yes, Komen reversed course and Karen Handel might be out of the picture,
SINGLE QUESTION FOR roll tide fan : HOW MANY KIDS HAVE YOU ADOPTED ? none, stay out of other people's life.
I say, let the future parents decide.
Shame.
Unfortunately she will probably go into politics.
I think should not have resigned. We need more Cristians to speak up against abortions and org that support them.
@Mother Cluster Duck
@sane-1632841
AmericanLobo:
I wonder if Komen will give her a nice severance package?
kayla:
You ASSume.
Daradar, you're right... too little, wayyyyyyy too late.
@daradar
Funding for Planned Parenthood is among the hottest of hot button wedge issues.
jollyoldsoul, we'll miss your 2 cents and your one crazy vote.
A $400,000 windfall for Komen. You have got to say one thing for this former PR director - she delivered the publicity.
Yep, just not the kind they wanted.
$400,000. for Komen..........3,000,000 for Planned Parenthood.........says a lot.
That 400 K doesn't even cover Brinker's wages!
Kathryn what that says is that neither side trusts them not that your side is more powerful. Pro-choice won't donate to them because they don't trust them and pro-life won't donate because they give to PP. Time to get out of the way SGK.
Wow! Just-Wondering, you hit that nail on the head. I didn't know anything about Komen before this and now I know way too much. LOL
They still won't get another cent from me -- wish I could have my December donation back.
Its ok my wife and I donated 1/2 of my 2011 bonus. So I made up for more than a few of you!
Jolly,
It sounds like you threw good money away after bad.
Thanks jolly. At least some of it will get where it should go.
Unfortunately, the irreparable damage has already been done.
Her resignation should be only the first of many.
Second good news coming from Komen.
That is a good start. Now the rest of the Board needs to decide if they can remember their original mission, or if are they a religious order.
I think the rest of the board needs to follow right behind her.
No religious order would accept them. They expect true dedication to the belief system. flip flops are only good for walking on beaches.
Where do you get your information? Is it Fox or World Net Daily? Seriously, it's a pretty well-known fact that 97% of what PP does is NOT abortion.
"abortion mill" ????
that is pure lunacy
abortion mill.
Ed-418360, #9
You are so off-base that it isn't funny. Your hatred, manifested by the hate-groups in the U.S. (Fox Channel, Evangelicals and Christianity in general), is despicable. If only I could pull you out of that "box" you live in and show you the real world with real people, you might change your tune, provided of course that your deep-seated hatred isn't too ingrained into your heart--that is, if you have a heart.
Ed,
You don't know what you're talking about.
Hey Ed, come back and defend your worthless post with some facts. Oh hell, I know that will never happen.
I assume ED will not be donating to or walking for SGK anymore? Good.
So Ed, you're tired of the PC but you want to enforce your own Christian Sharia on the rest of us? I prefer PC if I get a vote.
Ed must be must have gotten his facts from the Onion.
Ed, last time I checked, abortion is legal. Since you'll never be pregnant, butt out!
Hey, Mr. Ed...ever been to a PP office or clinic to see what they do besides all the abortions you claim they do and urge? Probably not.
Ed is full of it.
Handel can "stand up for her beliefs" all she likes, just not with other people's donations.
woodrow-
Yeah those "christian laws" like love your neighbor, turn the other cheek, serve those in need, and walk in humility really sound crazy and scary at this point.
Walk the walk.
4everamusingme - best post on this thread!
daryl it not the christian right restricting free speech in this country but the extreme left.
Yep, "it's not the christian right restricting free speech"
Timothy 2:12
For conservatives, the sanctity of life ends at birth.
So true! They work sooooo hard to prevent abortion, but then cut funding when those children are born to parents who are ill able to take care of them! As Mitt Romney said... "I'm not worried about the poor..."
Add this:
And has little or nothing to do with the woman doing the birthing.
Peace
Yep, Rick Santorum wants to bomb Iran but he thinks life is sacred. Go figure.
How True!!
Is Planned Parenthood a Political Entity?
Komen is not a political entity - but Planned Parenthood might as well be.
I want my money back!
Komen's 15 minutes are over...NEXT.
I hear that.......there is always next year to worry about...so I am done too.
Thanks for your input, AngieS (#12),
I went to "ap dot org" and found the article which stated in its second paragraph:
If Karen spoke the truth, that is damning evidence towards SGK.
So they made Karen Handel the fallguy so in case it did not work? What a thing to do to her sister.
Anita- Great post!

You are so off-base that it isn't funny. Your hatred, manifested by the hate-groups in the U.S. (Fox Channel, Evangelicals and Christianity in general), is despicable. If only I could pull you out of that "box" you live in and show you the real world with real people, you might change your tune, provided of course that your deep-seated hatred isn't too ingrained into your heart--that is, if you have one.
Wow - the only hatred I've seen being spewed here is from those on the hard left. Very consistently.
DJ5176,
No matter how far you skew it, my comment stands true towards Ed.
The only hatred was shown by Ed. Or you are very sensitive :^).
Yep, me too.........we won this one ladies.......lets not forget how much power we have.
Five star post !
See a pattern here?
The mole has to find a new hole now.
Well, that proves that. Defunding wasn't political was one
of the best jokes I've heard in a loooooooooong time.
Too little---too late for Komen. It is now a sinking ship.
I think its time has come and gone.........they got arrogant.
The mole has to find a new hole now.
Kathryn (#20),
Informed men have been at the forefront on this issue and other women's issues, too.
Dave......I do know that, I have a son and many grandsons who think the right wings attitude towards women is out of the dark ages.
Yeah Kathryn Sullivan!!!! Woman's domination!!!!!! LETS KILL BABIES!!! YEAH!!!!!!
There were one hell of a lot of men who helped on this - they deserve a lot of credit too.
Good. Shame on her for bringing right-wing politics into the cancer fight. And shame on Komen for hiring someone like her in the first place.
So the truth that was hidden finally comes out. Boy, what a cover-up all this time. Komen has lost my support, my money, and most of all, my trust....
Hypocrisy!
Bad decision to hire her in the first place. get it together Komen!
Right on Rev. Vincent. Well said.
Control freaks? You mean like the big corporations? THEY bought the government. And WHO is plastering everything they make PINK? The government?
Jeepers. People afraid of the GOVERNMENT when the real danger is the MULTI-NATIONAL CORPORATION!
Hypocrite.
That doesn't even begin to make sense. Someone is going to force their rights on you? How on earth does that work?
To hire this women ar ALL just makes clear the political leanings of Komen. They have NO RIGHT to claim the lead in ANY broad based philanthropic movement. Komen is JUST a bunch of right-wing nut-cases flogging their anti-women agenda to the detriment of the cause of curing breast cancer.
KOMEN - GO AWAY. LEAVE THE BATTLE TO SOMEONE THAT REALLY CARES!
