Interesting. You can be charged with distributing a "dangerous drug", yet you can also buy it in a vending machine Granted, a teacher shouldn't be doing that, but the double standard is overwhelming.
Why didn't the girl tell her mother. She told her after the fact. I believe I would have contacted the teacher and discussed it with her. I am certain that I would not have contacted the authorities. I believe her age should be taken into consideration here. This is one of those incidents where I would have scolded my child for not coming to me in the first place. And hold her accountable for her actions.
Considering her age, it's probable that the 16 year old's personal life was not what her parents may have approved. She may have had a very different opinion about sex than her mother and if this was the case, what should that student have done? Suffered? At 16, she is not a child and if she needs reasonable advice about sex, she should be able to use as many resources as possible. I have to question why she didn't go to her mother in the first place (after she had sex). Based on my personal experience, I can formulate an answer. I'm sorry she had complications. Now she may have lost one of the only women who she could go to for help. If she trusted her mom, she would have gone there first.
No where do I want a Public teacher telling my kid what to do outside of School. It isnt their business at all...Not one single bit. Id of smacked the piss out of this teacher if it were my son.
@David-1830107 Nowhere in the article does it say the teacher told her to take it, it's a very nondescript article. For all we know the girl asked her teacher to supply her with the pill knowing her parents would simply say no. Is that scenario too far fetched to believe? I don't believe it is, so let's not jump to conclusions here. And when the student is sobbing in the middle of class the teacher has every right to pull said student to the side and make sure everything is okay (make sure they're not being bullied at school or abused by the staff or at home, etc).

If she didn't have side effects then it would of been a non issue.
Way to miss the point.
Another example of no good deed goes unpunished.
Perfect example of why you may not want to always help others ....
