My family is choosing to not get vaccinated.

I don't want any of these vaccines. The testing of these vaccines for their safety and efficacy is simply bad science.

I wouldn't say waiting 'anxiously'. But I am waiting. Also, there is no 'regular' flu vaccine available, either.

My children were vaccinated last Saturday through the Mollen clinic which was only administering shots to children under 18 and pregnant women. I was vaccinated today due to the fact that I am considered high risk because I have a lung disease. The only reason that I was able to get us vaccinated was because I was vigilant at finding the shots. I called the health department weekly and my doctors regularly. If I had not done that-we would have missed our opportunity-as there were not many doses and they went quickly. My doctor only had 50 and gave them to high risk patients and the Mollen Clinic only had 500 for our area.

why is it we spend years and years testing shots, yet this one gets pushed thru in just a few months? last spring when the swine flu broke out we were told it would be a minimum of a year before they could create the shot, yet here we are injecting ourselves like guinea pigs less than 6 months later.

Stormrider, it was the preservative used in the vaccine which was attributed to causing Guillain-Barre Syndrome in 1976 and they have never used it in any vaccine again.

DANI, they adjust the vaccine annually according to the strain they expect to hit, sometimes they not as effective at predicting as at other times and people get the flu in spite of being vaccinated, so you see they have that year prior to flu season to develop the current vaccine, not years.

Many die annually from taking aspirin and Tylenol so the hysteria is unwarranted. Somewhere around thirty five thousand die annually from the regular strains of flu.

Get your children vaccinated and make sure you do the same for yourselves.

Tracy W, people can also get Guillen Barre from the seasonal flu vaccine, but the percentage who fall ill is so so small, the benefits far outweigh the risks. My son has been very sick this week with what his doctor believes is H1N1 and I would send my other kids to get vaccinated if the vaccine were available to us.

I wouldn't wish the H1N1 on anyone. Fortunately, his fever is waning, but the risk of pneumonia is there for sufferers. Don't think no vaccine is safer, it's not.

Carl, Spoken like someone that has never studied history or science. Ummmmm, have you ever studied what happens to populations that encounter a rare virus??? The POTENTIAL is devastating... so, go ahead, and don't get any vaccines. You simply ensure your genes won't be propogated. And if you have had offspring and successfully passed down your ignorant thoughts, their offspring have a lower chance of survival also. Hopefully, their parents are more intelligent.

BTW, a hoax is something that is untrue. Explain and cite examples where the H1N1 virus is "untrue". Have fun with that.

Meanwhile, if you value your life or lives of your loved ones, get out there and get vaccinated. You could save your child's/grandchild's life by swallowing your pride and getting a dang shot.

Idiots who oppose vaccination obviously didn't live through epidemics like polio that killed and disabled millions. They grew up in a world where they were either vaccinated against killer diseases or survived on "herd immunity." So, they enjoyed the benefit of science, but never understood the "why" of taking these pesky shots. Then they didn't take enough science in school to understand the germ theory of disease and contagion, or how vaccine induced immunity works. So they put themselves, their families and the people around them at needless risk because of their abject stupidity!

I recieved the regular flu shot back in early September and the swine flu shot 10 days ago. When I took the regular flu shot I was really tired the next day and my arm was a lil sore for about a week. When I recieved the swine flu shot I couldn't really tell I had the shot. It didn't hurt at all and there was very little soreness at all. I also felt fine the next day.

Hmmm...I heard Dr. Oz on the radio 2 days ago. His children HAD been vaccinated. Mrs. "Oz" was not in the "First tier", so she didn't get it yet. He did say that if you had had the flu recently, it was likely that it was H1N1...not the seasonal flu as it has not begun yet!

If you carefully read the ingredients and components contained in this vaccine you will certainly opt not to have these poisons and cumulative heavy metals introduced into your body especially if you are under the age of 5. Carefully read the ingredients in a hot dog.

How much fish do you eat in a year?

                                              etc.

The vaccine has minuscule amounts of heavy metals compared to what you breath and eat everyday.

It's like saying gravity is JUST theory. Either you accept science or you don't. If you don't, then go ahead and risk your life. If you do, then examine the TRUE risks yourself, not the propaganda against all science. The H1N1 vaccine is completely safe in the scheme of all things and definitely safer than risking the flu especially if you are an asthmatic, or have some other chronic illness. Stop spreading fear and lies. Get the vaccine.

I'm always amazed by people who talk without any information on what they're talking about. People who assume that because they heard something in their neighborhood then suddenly they know more than infectious disease specialists and the CDC. About 50-70% of the population is expected to be infected with H1N1, with deaths disproportionately occurring in the young and healthy population. Typical flu kills less than 10 HEALTHY kids each year in US, the rest of deaths are in elderly and those with other health conditions. So far we've had almost 100 deaths in healthy kids, with 6 months of flu season to go. By the way, Guillian Barre syndrome which people seems to be obsessed with happens at twice the rate after real infection with influenza than with the vaccine. Learn some facts before you spew your garbage all over. If you've convinced anyone not to get the vaccine, shame on you.

                                                          CarrieJo,

I'm sorry you haven't been able to get the vaccine yet. However, your comment about being expendable because you're 66 is 1)ignorant; 2)paranoid; or 3) driven by too much recent drivel about 'death panels'. I'm 45 and couldn't get one either--the vaccine has thus far only been given to people at highest risk, at least in my state. Those people are the very young--who have been dying from this flu--and the chronically ill and immunosuppressed. My kids will be able to get one from the next batch, but I will still have to wait. Adults, and particularly older adults, who are healthy are at very low risk of death from this flu, apparently because of immunities developed through exposure to past strains of flu or through past flu shots. Sorry to rain on your pity parade.

I have Agent Orange poisoning from Vietnam which the VA validated as causing my diabetes. I also had a triple bypass due to heart disease. I get winded and tired easily. I await the vaccine. I certainly fear a new strain of flu more than a simple vaccination. The only 'fault' in the vaccine shortage is the overly conservative government regulations limiting the type of process (eggs) acceptable for vaccine manufacture. Also, our near total reliance on foreign manufactures of vaccine is not good. I don't blame Bush or Obama, but I hope some lessons are learned from this situation. Doubt it though.

I suggest that people who have issues that make the need for the vaccine accute actually go out and look for the injectable vaccine, rather than relying on news reports about shortages. There is more this week than last, and there should be more next week than this week. I fall into the age group of folks who are recommended to get the shot if they have certain health issues just as you do LF. When I got my shot today at Kaiser Permanente there was absolutely no line. It only occurred to me to go look for the vaccine when I heard from a Kaiser employee acquaintance that they had it. As for the seniors who are complaining about not getting the shot. In other years where there were seasonal flu vaccine shortages, people in my age group had to wait even though some of us also really needed the vaccine; the elderly were vaccinated first. That was appropriate since statistically, the seasonal flu strikes hardest at the elderly. This flu strikes hardest at children and young adults, as well as pregnant women and people with other health issues. This time, statistically, and perhaps because of having survived previous waves of flu, the elderly are the least likely to become seriously ill, so while eventually all sane people should be vaccinated, this time the elderly go last.

Now after a heart bypass, I do becasuse I'm in a higher risk. I also got a shingles shot, a pneumonia shot and an annual seasonal flu vaccine. I haven't had the flu or even a really bad cold since then. I'll get the H1N1 as soon as it is available and I don't have to stand in long, cold lines to get it.

I do trust vaccines and those who promote, manufacture, and administer them. Some selfish parents depend on "herd immunity" and don't vaccinate their kids. I had whooping cough as a kid despite being vaccinated for it, but the doctor pointed out my case would have been much worse had I not been vaccinated. I also darn near DIED of measles, prior to there being a vaccine.

I will have to wait until all the others are taken care of first. I think that it is deplorable that in this country we cannot take care of the populace when something of this nature occurs. I remember when the polio vaccine was made available, everyone who needed it got it. The powers that be have been talking about this since forever and here we are, caught with our pants down. I would rather take my chances with the shot than with the flu and its complications. We watched a show on how the virus attacks the body. Very scary stuff and if you saw the show you would get the shot.
